Chapter 8

Gunjan tried to calm down but no luck, she tried to concentrate or think what Samrat wanted. Well she was not happy with the answers her mind was giving. What changed him now; he had never shown any interest in her for so long. But even when she said it she knew it was wrong. She had noticed several times him staring at her, and also she had seen the look of jealousy when Benji used to flirt with her. She had ignored it all this time, but now what?

She looked at the watch, she was behind the schedule as getting the half day was easy than finishing the work.

Traffic was light, she thought of calling Nupur but resisted. Till the time she knows what Samrat is upto, better not tell anyone. She reached station and paid the Rickshaw driver. Shit! She had forgotten to look in the mirror, well she never thought twice before going out but today she felt an urge to check herself in the mirror. Shrugging the uneasiness about her looks, she walked towards the McDonalad's. Andheri was always crowded, no matter the time. She just went and stood and her cell started vibrating, she had forgotten to take it out from silent mode. It was Samrat, after his call she had saved his number. Hesitantly she answered.

"Hello!"

"Gunjan, you reached the station?" Samrat asked.

"Yes, I am here. But what about you?"

"Don't be impatient Gunjan, I know you are anxious to meet me." Samrat said lazily.

Gunjan's temper spiked, how dare he? "Look Samrat, you asked me to come. I have come now tell me how long do I have to stand here?"

"You know you look SEXY when you are angry. Pity I had never seen you angry before. Turn around"

Slowly Gunjan turned and spotted him, he was in his car few steps away.

He waved and she went to him, he opened the front door for her. She got in and he started the car.

They moved away from station and car was moving ahead. It was the first time she was sitting in his car. It was spacious with the AC on and some perfume making it comfortable. He was not telling her anything, so even she won't ask. She also had her pride. Instead of looking at him she was looking at the car, there was a Ganapati on the center board and no other things. That made it simple, he always preferred simple things compared to his friends. He was handling the wheel quite efficiently, his eyes were on the road only. She was curious where they were going, but was too proud to ask. If he didn't want to tell her, even she won't ask. She sat with her hands folded on her lap when she recognized the road. It led towards the Juhu beach.

He maneuvered the car towards a paid parking lot and directly went out of the car. Furious now Gunjan also came out of the car, that arrogant guy was walking ahead on the sand assuming she would follow. Yeah, she would follow but the first chance she got she will drown him in the sea. She went along and finally choosing a nice clean place he sat. Gunjan stood her ground, she was not going to sit with him like nothing was wrong. What does he think of himself? Gunjan stood with her hand folded and looked anywhere but at him.

Samrat simply waited for two minutes and stood, then pulled her and sat again with her. His hands around her shoulders and he made her sit touching himself. He kept his hold on her shoulders as he thought she might decide to stand up and go. She had to sit and at least listen to what he has to say.

Several moments passed and it was rather good sitting next to him and not talking. It was peaceful, his hand was still on her shoulder and she liked it. A lot. They were looking at the sea and some people wandering on the beach. There was shade as he had chosen to sit below the coconut tree. He was sitting supporting his back on the tree and Gunjan was supporting herself on him. Not by choice. Hell she liked it, how his hands felt, smooth and warm. When she was dragged down she was sitting stiff but after that she relaxed and leaned on him.

Suddenly Samrat's cell vibrated, he took it out from his pocket and answered. It was one of the service provider's so as soon as he picked and heard the recorded voice he disconnected the call. But it seems it gave Gunjan a reality check as to what she was doing? And with whom?

She distanced herself from him and started thinking how stupid she can be?

Samrat could just hear her thoughts, he turned her using her shoulders and made her face him.

"Why do you keep running from me? I thought girls had an intuition about a guy and all. And after all this years you don't know how I feel about you?"

Gunjan's mind was blank and her tongue was tied in knots. Samrat was nervous, no girl had made him nervous. Was he wrong about her, about her feelings towards him. No he cannot be wrong.

"Gunjan, answer one question. Have you ever thought of me more than a friend?" With this question Gunjan turned her head down, she could not bear to look at him. She kept looking at her lap, her toes anywhere but him. What was she supposed to tell him?

The moments Gunjan took were agonizing for him, he wanted an answer. She was looking anywhere but him. "Gunjan look at me" No response from her. Again he tried, "Gunjan please look at me" Now she shook her head.

With no choice left he lifted her head using her chin and forced her to look at him, when she had refused to look at him he had sinking feeling that may be she didn't want to say no facing him.

But her cheeks were tinted pink, and she was not meeting his eyes. Hope sprang in his heart, "Gunjan, sweet heart you need to answer me. Atleast nod and put me out of misery."

Gunjan never blushed, never ever. But this one question had flooded all her blood to her face. When he said put him out of misery, she liked the thought that she could put him there. Impatient to see his reaction she nodded her head. He mumbled finally and pulled her in the hug. Gunjan liked the way his arms went around her and how his chest felt under her cheek. All in all Gunjan wondered why they waited for so long.

"Maybe it wasn't the time" Samrat said, "huh?" Gunjan replied looking up at him.

"You only asked why we waited for so long? I just answered."

"I said that aloud, I was just thinking. I am sorry" Gunjan started but she stopped as Samrat's finger was on her lips. And she had ideas of doing various things to that finger which were X rated. She blushed at her own thoughts.

"You need not be sorry to say what was on your mind. We are still friends but now we just went one step ahead. And I am happy we finally did."

Gunjan could not have asked for more, she just leaned on him and wrapped his hands around her.

This was best day of her life so far……
