HeYYY!!!!!!!!

Her deep brown eyes fell on the large white envelope sitting on the wooden table near the T.V. She took a deep breath and trudged toward her fate. That one envelope would decide a very important decision in her life. A yes would mean an experience of a far away land and a no would determine the same life she lived for the past 18 years in beautiful yet crowded Mumbai.

She reluctantly opened the envelope, feeling 2 pairs of eyes boring into her back. Her mom Padma gupta and sister Anjali Gupta eagerly awaited there shona's decision Yes; the letter clearly stated we'd love to have you join us for the year through our foreign exchange student program. Riddhima was excited of course she was who wouldn't be? But meeting new people she wasn't exactly what you would call social and outgoing. Okay she was modern but meeting new people was a HUGE phobia of hers. Ask her sister anjali they new asking her little Ridzie to meet new people would be next to impossible. Yet riddhima agreed to go, but there was one big reason behind her decision: Muskaan Chada her BESTEST friend. Muskaan and riddhima had grown up together more sisters than friends and one day muskaan's dad had gotten a job offer in California, refusing the offer was out of the question so off went muskaan to the U.S. but now after soooo many years she got an opportunity to meet her again she couldn't say no.

"Mamma aap kyun chinta kar rahi hai mein wahan akeli nahi hoon muskaan hai na aur Uncle aunty bhi toh hai" Riddhima tried to calm her teary eyed mother down. After riddhima had told her family her "faisla" her sister screamed with joy while her mothers reaction was opposite. "Tu waha manage kaisa karagi shona you have never been away from home alone" padma rattled on and on until Anjali and Riddhima had finally convinced her that that little ridhhima was no longer little and she would NOT be alone.

Riddima had two days to pack her belongings, College would start in two weeks but riddhima decided to leave a few days yearly to catch up with Muskaan and explore California. She had called Muskaan to let her know the good news and Muskaan had reacted just the was riddhima had thought she screamed and screamed until she was out of breath. Riddima lauged remember Maskaans excitement that girl was a large bundle of energy exploding every few minutes.

Anjali and padma were at the airport to see their Shona off. Shona was a sweet name they thought suited riddima very well and since then riddima was rarely called anything else. The last announcement for riddhima's flight called Riddhima stood up and gave Anjali a large hug and turned to embrace her mother when she saw Padma holding a pooja ki thali. Mamma ye sab? Riddhima began to question. Shhh…. Padma interrupted her and started chanting her mantras. "Oh ho mamma mein sirf college ke liye ja rahi hoon koi jang (war) lad ne nahi ja rahi" riddhima tried to explain. But Padma wasn't the one to listen she finished her pooja kissed riddima on the head and finally let her go. Before she boarded her flight she turned and waved one last time to her family. Her mom and sister. She took a deep breath and whispered "good bye India and hello America"
