What do you folks think about this???
To everyone disliking Amaal, Baseer, et al…
It wasn't until a few hours later that Bani woke up and found herself kept preciously folded in her husband's embrace. Unsuccessfully she tried to wriggle herself out of it when he woke up. It felt all so very natural. The embrace, the lingering touches and the piercing glances that made her blood like lava in her body. Although the times that they had been this intimate could be counted on one hand, it all felt so sensuously the same and intensely different at the same time. It was different too. He protected her this time. Even though they never spoke about children. But that would come soon, it was an unspoken promise.
**
' I want Ranveer to join the company.' Jai said suddenly. Sprawled halfway across him, his idea, not hers, Bani grinned. Trust him so say something so practical after what they just did.
'Then why don't you tell him to join?' Bani asked with a smile on her lips.
'Jiju nahin manenge.'
She raised her head a little. ' Kyun?'
' He thinks I will be doing Ranveer and all of them a favour. Par aisa nahin hai. He really deserves this and I have included him in my will. He will inherit the company if something happens. I think it's for the best. And he is interested in project development.
'Mai Jija-ji se baat karoon?' she asked.
Jai murmured something stunned by the way she accepted what he had just told her. 'abhi nahin' he pulled her back on top of him.
' Tumhe bura nahin laga?' he asked her.
' about what? '
'That I want Ranveer to inherit the company and haven't said anything about our children, If we have any.'
'If we have children, they should be free to choose what they want to do, don't you think. Something like their father's company could put pressure on them. And as you said, Ranveer is interested in what you do. To mauka usko milna chaahiya, hai na? Mai Jijaji se baat karoon? I can convince him.'
'I know, but now you need to sleep and I need to sleep.' A huge and loud yawn emphasised his words.
'I cant sleep like this.'
' Like what?'
Glad that it was practically dark in their room Bani murmured something, drawing the comforter around her and shifting quietly next to him, on her own space. She could feel Jai laughing. It was almost as if she could see him smile in the dark when she moved.
'Go sleep!' Bani ordered sternly.
She smiled until she heard his deep breathing. But Bani couldn't sleep as quickly. Her mind whirled with everything that happened that day. The party, the lunch with his employees and dinner with the family. Happy that Jai enjoyed it, Bani tried to close her eyes and catch a few winks before the sun came up. Her mind drifted back to her sister's expression when Bani showed her the house and the rooms. Stunned was a good word to describe her sister's expressions. Keeping only the room where Jai painted private, Bani had showed her sister practically everything in the house, wanting to share her house and her happiness with her sister. Afterwards Pia had seemed awfully quiet, almost upset over something.
'Ow God.' Bani whispered. Would Pia have remembered her own house with her husband? Must she have thought that Bani was showing off? That was never her intention. Would she have remembered that this would never be her, would it not be for Jai's family arranging their wedding.
Suddenly it was there again. That woman. A faceless women. She was lying next to Jai and Bani wasn't in the place she wanted, no needed to be.....
**
Skipping a few steps, Jai practically hopped down the stairs. Knowing that breakfast was the one moment where he could catch the entire family at the same time, he waited patiently for everyone to come down and sit at the dining table. Noticing his wife he didn't only see a hint of fatigue on her face, but also a strain in her smile. She shrugged it off as soon as she saw his inquisitive gaze, but it didn't disappear completely.
' Are you all right?'
Bani sat down next to him and quickly blinked her eyes a few times, probably thinking that it could hide whatever was troubling her.
'I'm fine.' She answered with a smile as bright as she possibly could managed.
Feeling helplessly concerned her asked her again ' Sure?'
She nodded, eager to look brave and as normal as she always was.
'Mai baat karoon jiju se?' Jai asked her.
'Abhi? Baad me kar lena. He is eating.' She suggested while she glanced at Aditya who was peacefully buttering a slice of toast.
'Nahin, Abhi kar leta hoon. Sab ke saamne.' Jai murmured, trying to muster up the courage to say something that might upset his brother-in-law.
'Jiju, mujhe baat karni hai aapse.' Jai said a bit louder.
'Kaho.' Aditya answered unmindfully.
'jiju....woh...mai..' Jai murmered. 'I want Ranveer to join the company.'
'What?!"
Ranveer, who just joined everyone for breakfast, plopped down his chair. Totally gobsmacked.
'Haan! I have seen his projects. They are fantastic.'
Aditya shook his head. 'No Jai.'
'Jiju. I'm not doing him a favour. Mai sach keh raha hoon. Aise his maine uske kuch projects dekhe. He is brilliant. A topper in his class. Jab ghar me hi inti saari opportunities hai to who bahar kyun maara maara phir for a chance. He has to do his internship in the coming semester.'
'There is a difference Jai. I want him to progress on his own. Not because you are his uncle.' Aditya spoke heatedly.
He will progress because of himself!' Jai protested while everyone at the table held their breaths, including Ranveer, who seemed crestfallen at his father's refusal.
'No Jai!' Aditya refused a bit louder than everyone was used of him. 'I don't want it!'
'But why Jiju?!' Jai matched his tone. 'Why don't you want Ranveer to join me. Company to ghar ki hai. Opportunities bhi kaafi hai. He will work hard, on his own. To phir kyun kisi gair ka bhala kare, because believe me...If I don't hire him, then someone else out there will. Aur is me nuksaan to mere hi hoga.'
Jigyasa coughed slightly, wanting to draw attention. 'Adi, give Ranveer a chance. Agar theek se kaam nahin kiya to......to Jai usse nikaal dega, Hai na Jai?' She asked a bit subdued.
'Nahin nikaalega Jigyasa.' Aditya interfered. 'Jai ko tum bhi jaanti ho aur mai bhi. Whatever Ranveer will do, sahi ya galat, Jai usko nahin nikaalega. Isiliye mai nahin chaahta hoon.'
'Ranveer wont do anything wrong jiju. I trust him. He will have to work like all the other employees, maybe even ten times better to make then believe he is worthy of inheriting my company.'
A cacophony of sound erupted around Jai. Only Bani sat unmoved in her chair, watching everyone jump out of their seats like an electric wire had touched them.
'What!' Aditya screamed. 'You are totally insane Jai. How could you do that?'
' Mai apni company ke baare me soch raha hoon jiju.' Jai answered. 'Ranveer is the best choice. He is interested in constructions and project development. He is good in what he does. To kyun nahin?'
' Kal ke baare me nahin socha. You'll have children someday. What about them? jigyasa asked.
' When I have children I want them to be free in what they want to do and what not.' He answered, parroting someone else, who was smiling when she heard his answer. 'Aur tab ki tab dekhi jaayegi. If he proves himself worthy of it will be Ranveer's but in the meantime I won't sit back and worry what will happen if I am run over by a truck tomorrow. I need someone dependable to back on. Aur jahaan tak mujhe pata hai, aap me se kisi ko mere business me koi interest nahin hai.'
Finally Ranveer managed to get some sound out of his throat. 'Par mamu, mai....I mean... I cant do that....aur mami?'
'Mai kisi ko kangaal nahin chor kar jaaunga Ranveer. I have many more investments and shares for everyone so they can lead a comfortable life. And you can do it, but only if you want to. I have to have a will. Agar mujhe kuch ho gaya then I don't wan to see my company cut up in small pieces and sold. I spent more than blood, sweat and tears on reaching where I am Ranveer.'
'Bani. tum kuch samjhao isko!" Jigyasa urged the silent spectator.
'Mai kya samjhaun?' Bani asked with a smile. ' It's Jai's company. And his decision.'
'That I wont accept!' Aditya said with finality and walked away with his breakfast incomplete.
Everyone sat down. Some disappointed and one person very angry with the decision. 'I'm going.'
Jai picked up his laptop case and was about to march out of the door when he felt someone's hand on his wrist.
Bani shook her head and stood up when she released his wrist.
'Don't go now Bani.' Jai stopped her. 'Jiju ka mood kharaab hai abhi.'
With a backward glance and a smile she walked towards the room Aditya had disappeared into.
**
Bani knocked twice. She didn't wait for a response. She wouldn't get any.
Aditya was staring out of the window in his bedroom.
Tum dono galat kar rahe ho Bani. Aditya didn't turn around.
Kyun?' She walked towards him and stood next to him, gazing out of the window and seeing the cars pass by on the road.
' You are not thinking about your own future.'
'To aap humaare future ke baare me soch rahe hai?'
Aditya turned towards her. 'Kisi na kissi ko to karna parega. Aage ka kya pata, jab tumhaare bacche honge to kya dogi unko?'
'wahi jo unka haq hoga. Jo who mehnat karke haasil karenge.'
' Unka haq to tum mere bete ko de rahi ho.'
Bani shook her head. 'Mai nahin, woh jo de sakta hai de raha hai.'
'Aur tum kuch nahin keh rahi hoon.'
'Mai kyun kahoon?' she asked him bluntly. 'It's his company, he worked for it. Then he should do what he thinks is right. And frankly speaking I think it is right too.'
Tum dono ka kuch nahin ho sakta hai, Bani.' Aditya sighed.
' Jab jaante hai to behes kyun kar rahe hai.' Bani grinned.
Aditya turned to the window again, but he wasn't looking at the busy street anymore. his thoughts were further than he could see.
'Pata hai, tumhaare papa ne tumhaari shaadi pe mujhse ek waada maanga tha, Jai se bare hone ke naate, is ghar me bare hone ke naate.' He said after a long silence.
'Kaisa waada?'
' yehi, ki tumhe koi taqleef nahin hogi is ghar me. Aur me woh waada poora nahin kar paaya. I dont want to repeat that anymore. Joh tumhaare saath huwa tha, joh Jai ne kiya tha, woh dobaara nahin hona chaahiye, kisi bhi wajah se, warna mai tumhaare papa se aankh kaise milaaunga?'
' Aisa nahin hoga jija-ji. Mujhe yahan koi taqleef nahin hai. Aur mujhe is faisle se koi taqleef nahin hai.'
'Sach keh rahi ho?' Aditya asked.
Bani nodded her head. Slowly and carefully. 'Mai yahaan khush hoon, bahut khush hoon. Itni khush ki.......kabhi kabhi dar bhi lagta hai.' She whispered painfully. ' Agar mujhse yeh sab chin gaya to.....I don't know what I will do. Aisa hoga to nahin na?' She looked at Aditya hoping he would reassure her that nothing would harm her happiness.
' Mai hone hi nahin doonga.' Aditya assured her when he placed a hand on her head, stroking the soft hair. He got an answer for all his own questions and hesitations. Yes, for Bani.....ignorance was bliss.
