I know I am supposed to finish Ankahee and I promise I will.
You might wonder why the FF/SS???. Well i dont know whether this will be a long and boring story or a short and boring story. You can decide. Also i dont know whether the title will suit the story. I couldnt think of anything else.
Hope you enjoy it.

'Happy Birthday to you!! Happy birthday too you!! Happy Birthday dear Bani, Happy birthday too you!!
Dressed in an angelic white anarkali with silver border on the edges of kundanstones, matched with a thin silver necklace, earrings and a few bangles, a dusky complexioned girl bend down over her two tier cake and blew out the 23 candles, while her entire family and all of their friends sung for her in the decorated hall. Bani was ready to cut the cake with a broad smile, showing of her set of pearly white teeth. Taking the knife, decorated with coloured strings and cut the cake paired with ear deafening applaud from her family. She took the piece she cut and walked to her parents, offered them a piece and touched their feet afterwards. Under loud cheering her parents took a piece each but to her shock smeared it on the lips and her cheeks.
Bani could only scream and step backwards.
'Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Everyone turned their eyes towards the stage where the band was put up while Bani carefully wiped the cream of her cheeks and lips.
As you know aaj humari pyaari Bani ka 23rd birthday hai.' A man carefully dressed in a grey, pinstriped suit said.'You all must be wondering how come she is celebrating her birthday? Well, it was a surprise otherwise she wouldn't allow us. But now we just want the birthday girl on the stage for a speech so... please join your hands and call her here. Sweety, come here!!'
While the rest of the people cheered and clapped loudly for her, Bani walked up the stage and kissed the man on his cheek after he handed her the microphone. 'thank you chachu. I want to thank you all for taking the time and come her for me. It makes me feel very special, very loved and very blessed. I want to thank all the people who made this possible for me and I hope you have a great time tonight. I would like to take the time to thank my parents and my sister and tell them...'
Before Bani could finish what she wanted to say, load music boomed in the hall and tall and fair woman in a gold saree made her way into the crowd and started dancing on the dancefloor. Mesmerized by her performance the crowd turned to follow her movements. Bani was left on the stage with the microphone in her hand. She put it away and walked off the stage watching the dance from a corner of the room. The fiveminute danceroutine ended and the woman asked for the microphone.
'I just wanted to wish my baby sister a very happy birthday in my own way. I hope you all liked it and the party. It took a lot of effort to put this all together and a hell lot of energy, believe me I know.' She sighed 'But it is all worth it for my little sis.
The crowd turned to find Bani and saw her stand in a corner, smiling at her elder sister, showing her a thumbs up.
Well thats all from me. the woman in the gold saree said but was stopped when she heard a cumulative chant of 'Once more, Once more!!! It didn't take a lot for her to oblige to the wish of the crowd and she asked for the spotlights to be switched on. She started her routine again.
Bani smiled, shaking her head at her sister and walked off to find her parents and to attend to the guests.
Seeing her parents she enveloped both of them in a hug from behind, startling both of them and placing a kiss on their cheeks. 'Thank you. I love you so much.
Her mother turned around and hugged her back. Your welcome. About time you celebrate your birthday too.
I know ma, I just don't like all the attention. Lagta hai sab mujhe ghoor rahe hai. Bani whispered to her fathers amusement. He patted her head affectionately. 'That is because you look like an angel in this white dress.
Bani saw the cake in its original state on the cart. Bani asked for some plates and started cutting and distributing the heavenly brown sweet, while talking to her guests. Her parents stopped her a few times but she didn't listen. As it is, the rest was busy and the waitresses were running their feet off.
Her parents were looking at their elder daughter on the dancefloor and rolled their eyes while chuckling. She would never change.
Bani was walking around with a tray filled with drinks when she saw her mother chatting to a woman about her mother's age. She looked closely and saw it was the same woman they met in the mall, a few weeks ago. Her mother and the woman were college friends and met after years again. While people took drinks of the tray, Bani made her way to her mother and tapped the other woman on her shoulder. 'Namaste aunty.'
The woman turned around and looked pleasantly surprised.
'Kiran, yeh wohi hai na jisse mai mall me mili thi?' She asked her friend who nodded and smiled at her daughter.
'Kitni khoobsoorat lag rahi hai.' the aunty commented. 'Happy birthday beta.' And thrust a blue, velvet box in Bani's hands, urging her to open it.
Bani looked at the box in her hands, her eyes as wide as saucers and opened it to find a beautiful set of gold. A chain, earrings and a ring, set with opal's set in them.
Dumbstruck for a moment Bani soon found her voice. 'Aunty, this is beautiful, but...but...it so expensive. Mai yeh kaise le sakti hoon?'
Aunty glared at Bani;. 'Accha to mai le leti hoon, mai chali yahaan se. Kiran tu aa jaana kabhi mere ghar, mai nahin aaungi ab se tumhaare paas.
Without talking the box she turned around when Bani looked at her mother, who, to her surprise, was smiling. Lelo Bani.
Thank you Aunty. Bani said. Aunty turned around and smiled at her.
'Their nautanki karne ki aadat nahin gayi Savi.' Bani's mother commented.
Bani gaped at the pair of friends. They laughed loudly, seeing her flabbergasted expression.
'Now take this present and keep it away.' Aunty said.
Bani was turning around when she saw a small boy tugging Auntie's saree.
'oh, mai to bataana bhool gayi. Yeh mera nawaasa hai. Meri beti ka bata. Samar.'
Bani kneeled down in front of the little boy and forwarded her hand with a smile. Hi. I'm Bani.'
The boy, a bit unsure what to do next, accepted the hand and said 'I am Samar Khanna.
What a cool name!
The boy gave bright smile. Thank you'..uhm'..aunty'.yahaan kiska brithday hai? So many balloons!'
The innocent brown eyes looked at the ceiling far above him.
It's my birthday.'
The boys eyes grew wide and he put a hand on her cheek. ' Happy birthday aunty!!' Samar planted a wet kiss on the cheek he was holding after he turned it towards him.
Bani thanked him and lifted him in her arms while she was trying to balance the jewellery box in her left hand. You had cake?'
The boy nodded.
'Khaana khaya?'
This time he shook his head in the negative. 'Bhoook lagi hai. Samar said sadly.
Aunty rolled her eyes. Ghar se kha kar aaya hai. Jhootha. Zaroor isne kuch dekha hai.
Nani mujhe sacchi me bhook lagi hai. Mujhe khaana hai. Samar tried to convince his grandmother emphasising it more with his puppy eyes.
Mai khaana khilaau?' Bani asked.
Samar cheered and Bani turned when she heard aunty speak again, this time to someone else.
'Arre tu aa gaya. Theek kiya tumne. Kiran yeh Krishna didi ka beta hai. Jai. Jai, yeh meri dost hai. College ki. Kiran Dixit.
A man joined them. Quite tall and broadshouldered, he had an air around him that made all the aunties and the girls around him gulp for air, Bani noticed in one look. He calmly touched Kirans feet and Bani noticed his ravenblack, shiny hair that looked soft when her mother put her hand on his head. He had a dark colour, darker then Bani. While she reminded more of the calm sand of the Sahara, he was tanned like he had walked in the same dessert, everyday of his life. His black suit complemented his colour and his hair. She had to admit, only her father looked better then him, that too because she made her father wear the black suit she choose and maybe also because no one would admit that their papa would look less then anyone else.
Bani stood there calmly, seeing him interact with her mother and his aunt. He was some kind of hotshot in the shares world and came from a meeting. He saw her and his aunt introduced both of them. He extended his hand towards her. Hi, Jai Walia. Thank you for the invitation and a very happy birthday.'
'Thank you.' Bani answered in her normal, soft voice while shaking hands with him. ' Im Bani. Thanks for coming.
Bani stood there for a while when she felt Samar tapping her on her shoulder. 'Aunty, bhook lagi hai.'
She bit her lip and cuddled him feeling ashamed of forgetting her little guest. 'Challo. Abhi chalte hai Samar.'
Samar nodded excitedly.
'Are Jai, tu bhi jaake khaale. Meeting se aaya hai, bhook lagi hogi. Aunty was already pushing him lightly in their direction.
Jai looked at them. She could not be 23. The girl looked like a teenager, but the confidence with which she was holding his nephew was telling otherwise. He was about to turn down the offer when he heard his stomach rumble. He had declined dinner during the meeting because he had promised his aunt he would pick her up today. Jai was least bit interested in parties, although he had to admit that this party was different from the parties he attended for the last seven or eight years. People were not standing here with a drink in their hand and gossiping about each other openly. Most of the guests were going crazy on the dance floor. Everyone who saw the birthday girl stopped and waved at her, wished her, or just smiled at her.
Jai's stomach rumbled again and he felt his aunt's hand on his back, pushing him towards the girl and Samar.
'Haan, chalo. Mai bhi kha leta hoon. If you don't mind?'
She smiled. Ofcourse not. I will be right back, mai yeh box rakh ke aati hoon.'
With Samar still in her arms, Bani walked away to the room she got dressed in a few hours ago, when she heard Samar whisper in her ear. 'Aunty, mujhe bhook nahin lagi, mujhe icecream khaani hai.'
Bani gaped at the cheekiness of the boy and pulled his nose. Badmaash!
Samar smiled at her first before he started laughing openly.
Chal, tujhe icecream khilaati hoon.
Bani put Samar on the floor and held his hand. Outside of the room she saw the man stand she just met. She though for a while before she could remember his name. Chaliye.
Bani walked to the buffet table with Samar on one side and Jai Walia on the other side.
Aap kya khayenge?' She asked him while taking a plate from the pile.
'anything. Bhook lagi hai. everything will taste great.' Jai Walia said.
Bani put a bit of all the dishes on his plate. He only stopped her when she was about to put a bit of acchar on his plate, with 'Mujhe teekha pasand nahin.
Bani handed the plate to him.
Are you worried that I will starve in your party?' He asked her with his eyes focussed on his plate, wondering where to start.
The seriousness with which he asked her that, without a hint of humour, made Bani laugh.
'You at least need to try everything Mr Walia.'
' Isko khaate khaate mai thak jaunga. I am already feeling sleepy, this will surely make me fall down on the floor.'
'Koi baat nahin, Aap yahan so jaayige. The cleaners will come in the morning to wake you up. Jo bacha kucha hoga aap phir kha kar kaam par chale jaayiga.' Bani answered cheekily.
Jai laughed, he noticed himself laughing after a very long time. He saw two seats at one table and took his plate and Samar and walked over there while Bani got Samar his ice-cream.
She handed him the cup and walked away to get Jai some water. Bani met a few of her friends and stopped for a while to talk to them, but when she came back she saw Samar's mouth covered in ice-cream and a few drops of the pink substance on his white shirt. Bani lifted him and made her sit on her lap while she fed him. In the meanwhile she had a random chat with Jai about his work, her last year of MA, their families. She waited till he finished and helped Samar clean up, before they returned to Jai's aunt. Her mother was busy with some of the other guests when Bani heard her name being called.
'Birthday girl!! Come join us!!! We want to see some of your famous thumkas!!! A woman shouted through the microphone.
Bani tried to shush them, ignored them for a while until the chant of Bani!! Bani!! Bani!! grew stronger.
A girl came and dragged her away to the dancefloor.
No one noticed Jais face blanche when he saw the person holding the microphone. Of course the name would sound familiar. Bani Dixit...Dixit!
