It was almost dusk. A young girl was pacing ups and downs beside a taxi, on a deserted road,for last 15 minutes, little shivering, due to the chilly afternoon.

"Madam, aap fikar mat karo. Koi na koi gadi mil hi jayega apko." The taxi driver said.

"I hope so."

"Madam jee dekhiye ek jeep aaraha hai.maine aapko kaha tha na."

The girl moved forward to get a lift as the jeep neared her.

The jeep stopped and the man in the driver's seat asked, "Yes?"

"Ahh...." she uttered, " Actually I am stuck in the middle of the road..."

"Can you give me a lift?" The girl asked hesitantly.

"Where are you going to?"

"Matheran "

"That's good.....I am going there too, can easily drop you" he suggested.

"Are you sure? " The girl asked again to confirm if he has any problem.

"Of course" he assured though his face was telling otherwise.

"Thanks." She thanked the man and turned to the taxi driver.

"Please transfer the luggage to the jeep." She said to the driver before paying the fair of the taxi.

The man in the jeep opened the door for her and the she settled herself on the front seat beside him before the car started off.

She stared at the man beside him. She can say that the man is extremely handsome.Though she stole glances at the man beside him, but he seemed to be the least interested in looking at her, being busy in her own thought.

There was an uneasy silence prevailing in the car until she broke it finally.

"Hi, I am Naina." She introduced herself.

He didn't respond to her. He seemed to be engrossed in his own thought.

"And you?" Naina asked hoping that she will get an answer this time.

She was feeling it odd. "Can you tell me how long it will take to reach?" She asked.

"What's your problem? Can't you sit quietly?" The man shouted at her.

She was taken aback by his behavior.

She tried to explain. "I was just asking you how long it would take to reach Matheran? Why are you shouting? I asked you earlier…If you had any problem to give me a lift, you can stop here. I'll get down. "

"No, it is not needed." He replied quickly.

"I am extremely sorry. "He said looking at her.
"Actually I was disturbed with something and loose the temper."

She nodded understanding his reason…She thought "He was looking very tensed indeed. I am the stupid to irritate him again and again."

"So what were you asking?"

"I was just asking, do you have any idea about how long it will take to reach Matheran?"

"I never gone there before, but as per I know it will take 5-6 hours more."

"Ohh. By the way thanks again Mr. ???"

He couldn't get the time to answer as he noticed that a truck was coming in high speed from opposite side. As the road was narrow, he tried to give the truck side in a wide space."

But alias!!!! The truck came too close before he could do anything.

He gave a break and tried his best to control the steering.

The jeep came to the halt when its two front wheels moved over a tree root.

Naina was amazed by seeing his driving skill…they could have met an huge accident if he wouldn't tackle the situation nicely…
He opened the door and stepped out. Naina also followed him. It seemed that no damage is made.

"Petrol jaisa smell aaraha hai." He uttered . He knelt down to see and found that petrol is licking from the petrol tank. "Ohh, shit."

"what happen?" Naina asked becoming tense.

"Petrol is licking."He replied.

"Ahh.. do you have chewingum with you?"

"chewingum?" Naina asked in a surprised tone, not understanding the reason.

"Yeah, chewingum, if u have then we can use that to repair the hole of the petrol tank temporarily."

"Ohh..No..i don't have."

Her face lit up as an idea stuck her. "But I have soap with me. Soap can serve the same purpose. Isn't it?"

"Right. Then what are you waiting for? Take out quickly."

Naina opened her suitcase quickly without wasting any time and take out the soap to give it to him. He applied little amount of soap after finding the exact place.

Naina relieved as she thought that she can reach the town without any obligation now…But little did she know what is waiting for her.

The jeep didn't give trouble for 10-15 minutes. But after that Rajveer again got the smell of petrol. He stopped the jeep and stepped out only to find petrol is licking again and there was mark of petrol on the road.

"I don't think that we can reach the town before the petrol tank emptied out. Let's see. If your luck favours you then we can get a petrol pump on the way."

"What do you mean by that? I have to spend the night here?? On this deserted road?"

"If you don't want to spend the night on the this deserted road, then sit back into the jeep quickly."

Naina obliged him, as she has no choice left.

He started the jeep in highest pace. It's not easy to drive in a high speed on the winding roads.Sometimes it may be dangerous .The oil indicator was telling that they don't have much time left with them. Knowing that he tried his best to drive the jeep in highest speed.

It was already dark as the sun goes down. After sometimes he saw a board on the road side, on which private was written. The road was diverted there. One was the main road, and another was a narrow lane. Without thinking for a moment he took that narrow lane making Naina surprised.

"What are you doing? Why did you take this lane? We should take the main road."

"No, I shouldn't."

Naina was very much afraid.

After 4-5 minutes the jeep stopped suddenly.

Naina's pale face can tell that there was no more petrol in the petrol tank.

"Why did you take this lane? I told you earlier. But you didn't listen to me. If I was on the main road, at least I had a hope to get a lift. But now…I am stuck here just because of you. Ohh…God..Plz help me." She said in one go.

"Listen to me."

"You know what, now I have doubt on your intension. I shouldn't take your lift at all."

"Will you please shut up. I am trying to help you and you are accusing me. We didn't come far from the main road….Go straight , you will again get the main road. It will just take about 10 minutes."

"I am sorry that I tried to help you." He said joining his hand.

Naina thought that the man is indeed trying to help her. But it was very natural for her to loose temper. She, a girl alone stuck in the middle of the deserted road with an unknown person whom she met one hours back…in addition dense forest beside the road…she can only fear for the worse.

"What happen? You are still here? You didn't go still now?" He asked looking at Naina, who didn't move from her seat.

"I am sorry. I shouldn't shout at you. Actually I was so afraid that I loose my sense."

"It's ok."

He looked at the forest on both side of road…

"So let's go."

"Where?"

"Do you want to sit here for the whole night? I told you that there must be a rest house here…So let's go."

Naina stepped out of the jeep and followed him without making any protest.

It was a moonlit night…so they can see the path at least. After walking for few minutes they could see a house. It seemed that the house was a haunted house. No one leaves there for long times.

"I was right." He stated with a smile on his face.

But Naina was not at all happy seeing the house…how one can be happy with the idea of spending a night with an unknown person in a haunted house.

She stared at him…He indeed has an honest face…Looking at him she could tell that she can rely on, he will never let her down. She wants to trust him, and she wants to be able to rely on him.

hey loved the start...really interesting, but ur naina is a bit reckles isn't she? going off with a perfect stranger like that...hope she learns more sense soon.
