Part Six
She woke up with a start and realized that she was still on the flight, 3 hours to go. He was getting closer, she knew it, she checked on Prachi and requested one of the airhostesses to keep a check on her and Naina went to the washroom and freshened up and came, the water too reminded her of him.
It was 2 days prior the actually event, they had planned to go to the beach and loosen their nerves there, Rajveer had begged and requested his seniors to give him the day off making all kinds of excuses. Sonali was also supposed to join them later on but she backed off at the last minute, Sonali knew what was happening between them and wanted them to realize their feelings themselves and so had left them alone.
That day was still fresh in Naina's head, he was chasing her with some mud and she was trying to run as fast as she cud, but he finally caught up with her and put all the wet sand on her face. She pretended to be angry and so he held her hand and took her to the water to wash her up, as soon as she was done he tried moving out but she tripped him and fell head first into the water, Rajveer was not going to take this lightly, he too caught her legs and pulled her into the water, they literally forgot how old they were and behaved as small kids, later on that evening they went to their respective homes, dressed up and went out for dinner together
At the Restaurant
"Naina, tell me something honestly"
"Yeah shoot"
"What do you feel for me?"
Naina literally choked on her food, he was way too fast for her
"Rajveer I don't know how to answer this question, I really don't"
"Naina, I have seen people wasting their time and their lives waiting for the right time to tell the person they like that they are interested in them, and I don't want to be a fool like them"
Naina just stared at him, what he was saying was absolutely correct, but she wasn't ready for this, Rajveer just continued talking
"I tried to pass off this feeling that I have been having about you for some time now, this evening I realized that I could be myself with you, I don't even have to put on an act with you around"
"Rajveer, I completely"
He dint let her complete and continued talking himself
"Naina, I have seen the same thing in your eyes for me, tell me if I am wrong"
"No you are not, but I don't love you Rajveer"
Rajveer looked a little crestfallen. Naina having read his expression just continued
"I know what you are thinking about, but I don't want to rush into any kind of relationship right now, I have seen this happening many times, a relationship clicks when it is confined to friendship, the minute it goes to the next step everything gets spoilt, and I don't want that to happen to us, I don't deny that I like you, you do hold a special feeling in my heart but yet I don't think I am ready to take on something as deep as love"
Rajveer just agreed
"You are right Naina, I am sorry I think I was a little too fast"
Naina gave him an understanding smile and said
"How about a dance?"
"Sure"
And as they danced a number of thoughts crossed their minds, he didn't try to get to close to her but she did, was he telling her the truth, she definitely held something for him in her heart but she didn't want to jump to conclusions because relationships are something that can get spoilt
And as they head home today they were completely silent, Rajveer was on the verge of cursing himself, he felt completely foolish to open out his heart to Naina, he was right in thinking that she held something special for him in her heart, but probably that ended just at friendship, he just hoped that this confession for her doesn't end their friendship because it was one of the most important relationships that he had treasured in his life.
Naina didn't sleep that entire night, she knew a new world was calling her, but she was scared, she hardly knew Rajveer, and so she thought about him the whole night
A new morning
Rajveer was dreading going to the site, he would have to face Naina, and something told him that last nights confession hadn't gone down well with her and plus it was just a day to the actual event, he had so many tensions, so many responsibilities and so when they saw eachother the just tried ignoring though stealing a glance when necessary
Finally Rajveer had to say something
"Hey Naina!"
"Hey Rajveer, how are you?"
"I am fine, but you are looking awful, tension and fear is clearly visible on your face"
"Offcourse I am tensed"
"You don't need to be, anyways we are having an official rehearsal in about 20mins you better be ready coz its starting with yours"
She looked even more tensed now, and so he took her hand in his
"Chill Sweet heart it will all go fine"
And she soon hugged him, he was taken by surprise, and he hugged her back, but soon realizing what had happened last night he broke off and headed to do his work in a huff and she stood there completely dumbfounded, had she really spoilt their relationship, she was in a terrible mood now
Soon the morning of the show dawned on, she was horribly scared, and Rajveer too was scared for her, he didn't show it to her offcourse, but still wished all would go off fine. Finally it was evening and the audience had settled in, the media had taken its position and so did all the main names of the fashion industry, Sonali was standing back stage with Naina, who was decked up heavily, Sonali said
"Naina, finally your dream has turned to reality, hasn't it"
But getting no reply from Naina she turned towards her and found Naina staring in another direction, looking in the direction of Naina's eyes she found what she had expected, Rajveer
"Naina, you love him, and you cant deny the fact"
Sonali said this a little louder and this broke naina out of her trance, Naina had told Sonali all about that evening, though Sonali had not commented, she had realized that it was high time that she should
"Sonali"
"Both of you'll are made for eachother Naina, cant you see that? I know you for 2 years, not once have you ever felt this way for any guy"
"Sonali, it can be an infatuation, I don't want to rush into things, it will just spoil everything"
"Naina you are not a 16 year old girl, you love this guy, you are not attracted to him, you guys understand eachother perfectly, look at Rajveer, I have known him for the past 2 months, that's not a long time offcourse but I can see that change in him, I can see that he loves you so much, he has never been so upset, I have always seen him jovial and happy go lucky, but today he just looks dejected"
"I also know him for just 2 months, how can I fall in love with him in such a short time period?"
"Naina, you will be happy with this guy and I can guarantee you that, and see even if you go around with him you will understand if you want to spend the rest of your life with him or not, just give it a try"
"I need some time"
"You have 7 days Naina, 7 days for the fashion week to get over, after that he goes his way and you go yousr, and don't even think about meeting him as often as you do these days, he'll not want to hang around with a girl who has rejected him, and plus you'll have your own projects as well as him"
But they couldn't continue their conversation for long, as Rajveer just came along
"Sorry to disturb you girls, but Naina the show is going to start anytime now and I need to have you there with me"
"Yah sure, bye Sonali"
"All the best Naina"
And they headed to a small corner from where the stage was visible, Ritu was giving the introductory speech and soon called out Naina's name and the models came out one by one and displayed her lovely designs, her collection was greeted with a lot of applause from the crowd, during this whole time Naina didn't realize but she has caught rajveers palm and he was rubbing his thumb over her palm, she was not paying attention to him offcourse, she was looking at her designs on stage, the ones she had designed with so much of passion, and Rajveer just looked at her, she looked so pretty in her mid-night blue gown, he felt like holding her tight, but he had to get a grip on himself and had so resolved to stay away from her, he didn't want to chase her or force her into anything, he was determined to avoid any physical contact with her, he hated staying away from her but he had no choice, it was his only way to stay focused and stay in control, but now as she held onto his hand he felt his hand was glued to hers with fevikwik
Soon Rajveer had to break contact and leave as he had to attend to other designers.
After the show was over for that day, she was feeling restless and needed to speak to him
"Rajveer I need to speak to you, urgently"
He picked up the urgency in her voice and immediately went with her to a secluded corner
"Why aren't you speaking to me" she suddenly bursted out
She demanded and he had to speak the truth
"Because I Love you"
"Rajveer"
"No Naina, let me speak, I love you, but unfortunately you don't, now that's my bad luck, when you are around I just cant seem to restrain my feelings, and if that happens it will be a disaster, so I rather stay away from you and both of us will be happier"
"Wrong, who said I am happy, this distance from you has affected me so much, its just been 2 days but I cant just concentrate, why don't you understand that"
"I understand everything, but while you have friendship in your heart for me, I have love in mine for you, and my heart will not be merely satisfied with friendship"
Rajveer just stood there and as they looked into eachothers eyes, they just couldn't move, but soon Rajveer spoke up
"Its late, you need to get home"
And so they headed home.
The rest of the week passed away so quickly that naina could hardly consider the question Sonali had put forward to her. And soon it was the finale. Naina had become the talk of the town and she was very happy with it, Rajveer too was happy but couldn't celebrate her success with her, why was love to terrible, and why had he fallen prey to it?
Finally it was time for the closing party, organized by Lakme, Naina didn't want to attend it but Sonali somehow forced her and she dressed simply and went.
Rajveer was determined that this was probably the last time he and naina would be meeting for some time now or the last day of theirs as friends, he really wanted to stay away from her now, and as she entered the hall and they looked at eachother theirs eyes got locked with eachothers"
