Darling, is now in Kkavyanjali...

Bobby to play a role similar to that of Kiran in Kya Kool Hai Hum

Sapana Patil

Bobby Darling's happiness knows no bounds as she has landed a plum role in Ekta Kapoor's Kkavyanjali. After making her presence felt on Celebrity Fame Gurukul, she is definitely cashing in on her popularity.

An elated Bobby says, "My role is so rocking. It is similar to that of Kiran, the role I played in Kya Kool Hai Hum and Ekta (Kapoor) wanted only me to do that role. I will be called Titch in this serial."

So how did she find the experience of shooting for the soap, "God! I got nervous during my first few scenes. My co-star Salil (Acharya) is very loud and definitely beats me to it. He is just too much. He rehearses the scene when the take is on. So I don't come to know what is going to come next. It was a little problematic in the beginning but now I have got a hang of the situation and I am pretty comfortable."

Explaining more about her role, a source from Balaji said, "Sandeep (played by Salil Acharya) and Chaman (played by Dheeraj Sarna) love the same girl Tanya (played by Natasha). Bobby loves Sandeep. Chaman desperately wants Tanya to be with him and so does Bobby feel for Sandeep. So Chaman and Bobby will come together and make all efforts to keep Sandeep and Tanya away from each other. There is lot of humour involved in this track. It will be great fun."

Incidentally, Bobby had also shot for Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin as a fashion designer. "After that Sony people told me to come in Celebrity Fame Gurukul," she says.

"But Celebrity Fame Gurukul is keeping me very busy. I am somehow managing my time," she says with a laugh.

Her track in Kkavyanjali will be introduced this week. She will also be seen in Santosh Sivan's next film.

Kaun Banega SMSpati?
Thursday November 3 2005 00:00 IST
BANGALORE: It is not just jokes being SMSed around, but a whole new messaging phenomena spawned by television and radio.

A survey has shown that a driver of growth in SMS has been the unforeseen phenomenon of the linkage between hit Indian TV shows and mobile users where there is a lot of interaction.

Two-way SMS traffic has grown significantly with popular radio and television shows such as "Kaun Banega Crorepati," "Indian Idol," "Fame Gurukul," and during cricket matches, a survey has shown.

A study conducted by Continental Research on behalf of Tegic Communications covered 1,400 respondents nationwide to determine SMS usage and attitudes toward predictive text input.

Mobile phone users around the world sent 12 billion messages in 2004 and this number is set to touch 100 billion in 2010.

A substantial part of this text messaging is happening in Asia, particularly India, where the text message or SMS, is used to send everything from downloading ring tones sending horoscope and jokes.

Predictive text users SMS as many as 70 messages per week compared to those who do not send such messages.

For them speed is the top criteria in sending such messages. As many as 68 per cent of such messagers agree that the best thing about predictive texting is the speed at which one can type out messages as speed is of essence and the message has to be sent before the programme ends.

This type of SMS messages also has led to a new criteria of selecting hand sets where new generation subscribers look for hand sets where the process of sending SMS is simpler, faster and easy on the finger.

Interestingly, with an increasing number getting onto the predictive text messaging bandwagon, over 60 per cent of respondents of this poll intend to try out predictive texting - be it in response to television shows or FM radios.

This proportion is much higher than in European countries where a larger number have tried, but not liked it.

This illustrates the huge potential in India where some mobile service providers allow as many as 100 SMS free per day.

Sony chugs ahead with more musical reality

By Subhash K Jha
Thursday, 03 November , 2005, 13:58

Buoyed by the success of the two music hunts 'Indian Idol' and 'Fame Gurukul' -- the former's winner Abhijeet Sawant's album 'Aapka Abhijeet' has made him the largest-selling pop artiste of India, ahead of Sonu Nigam -- Sony Entertainment has decided to pull off a massive stunt.
"We've selected five contestants from Indian Idol and five from Fame Gurkul, put them together for a stunt called 'Dus Ke Dus Le gaye Dil'," informs Sony's executive vice-president Tarun Katial.

"Sure, we've no qualms in admitting it's a stunt. But a very viable stunt, you've to admit. Everyone is interested in the Idol and Fame finalists. Look at Abhijeet Sawant and Qazi Tauqeer. Qazi may not be a fantastic singer, but he's a star! See your favourite Fame Gurukul students here!

"We're proud to have produced these bright young stars on these two shows, and now they're going to come together for a whopping finale of sorts," adds Katial.

The 'Dus' candidates ready to croon their arts out are Prajakta Shukre, Aditi Paul, Harish Moyal, Rahul Saxena, Ravinder Ravi, Arpita Mukherjee, Shamit Tyagi, Arijit Singh, Mona Bhatt and Anubhav Suman.

The show goes on air from November 4th every evening at 8.30 p.m till November 18th. Says Tarun, "The idea is to re-package the popular faces and voices in a new experience. We at Sony are definitely into reality music contests."

"Besides Indian Idol 2, which will be a bi-weekly, we're gearing up for our big game show 'Deal Ya No Deal', also a bi-weekly, which goes on air on November 23rd. We're going easy on the soaps. But we do have a new daily 'Ek Ladki Anjani Si' going on air from November 4th."

It features Kanchi Kaul (the flop actress from 'Kuku Kohli's 'Woh Tera Naam Tha'). Shrey and Nirja Guleri are producing the show, thereby lending credence to the belief that Ekta Kapoor and Sony Entertainment are no longer bosom buddies. Exclusive: Never-seen-before Fame Gurukul videos

"I keep hearing about our fall-out," laughs Tarun Katial. "But there has been none. Ekta and I haven't met for weeks. But that's because we're both busy and not because we've fallen out."

Indian Idol 2 returns on 21 November. "Everything, including the judges -- Anu Malik, Sonu Nigam and Farah Khan -- will be the same. But there will be a huge scaling up of everything, including the excitement level."

Commenting on the popularity of 'Indian Idol', Tarun says, "Some of the contestants from Zee's 'Sa Re Ga Ma' have gone all the way to the top, and then auditioned for 'Indian Idol'. The frenzy at the auditions this time is far more pronounced."

Sony's Celebrity Fame Gurukul also projects tremendous gusto for life. Hell, these 'celebrities' are no singers. They aren't even celebrities in the true sense (some of the guys in the guise of stardom wouldn't be recognized if they step out on the road). But they've a will to sound right.

I loved what the totally atonal Tisca Arora told the tolerant judges Javed Akhtar and Alka Yagnik. "I know I sing badly. But I want to sing. So what's wrong with doing it?" And then on a lighter note she added, "When I think of the songs in my head they sound so right. It's only when the words come out of my mouth that they come out so wrong."

Attagirl! I love that spirit. And Tisca is truly a proud product of television. I love her work in Zee's stumbling-doddering political soap Sarkarr… almost as much as I like Divya Dutta as the sweet angelic Punjabi kudi in Star's Shanno Ki Shaadi.

I've noticed that Sahara's Kohinoor tries to imitate Time Bomb in format and editing pattern. Guys, the split screen works on TV for Friends, not for desi thrillers where the actors squint so hard that they seem to be searching for the director to tell them what to do next.
