The moon sign is acc to the Eastern Astrology, the astrologers out in the East calculate it from your birth time, latitude longitude of ur location and stuff and the western one is the sun sign thats the one we all knw from our bdays. TO cut the long story short one the placement of the moon in your horoscope depicts your moon sign, if its in the 12th house u are a piscean and like that.
