Jodi 1 to make Mumbai home

They are finally on the road to fame. Qazi Touqeer and Ruprekha Banerjee are the 'Fame Gurukul' jodi and are, "On top of the world." Says a visibly excited Qazi, "I don't know why people are crazy about me. But I feel my USP was my performance and willpower. I am so touched by all the love and support I got from my fans. It's unbelievable."

The jodi have received Rs 50 lakh from Sony Entertainment Television, a music contract with Sony Music and a Maruti Alto each. Ruprekha admits that she was confident throughout that she would win the contest. "I really was not bothered whether it would be Rex or Qazi. I was just concentrating on working hard and going after my goal."

The duo have decided that Mumbai will be their base. "There's no question of going back to Kashmir. Mumbai's the place to be. Everything is here - Bollywood and the music industry. Along with all the adulation and money I have a lot of responsibility now and I am all geared up to prove that I am the best," says Qazi.

Agrees Ruprekha, "Right now I have to look for a house here and look forward to make a mark for myself." Talking about her hometown, Kolkata she adds, "I spoke to my family in Kolkata and they were so excited. In fact, there were celebrations all over the city!"

The jodi have become icons. Talking about their growing popularity Qazi says, "I am surprised when people take my mom's autograph. I will try and go back to Kashmir for Id and see people's reactions there."

Recalling an incident when the group was in Delhi he continues, "There was a huge traffic jam when we were in Delhi and we asked the traffic cop what the problem was. He told us 'Arre yahan koi Qazi aane wala hai' I was speechless. It's a great feeling." "But we are getting used to it," quips Ruprekha.

Qazi and Ruprekha are now preparing to record their first album 'Yeh Pal' and are getting ready to continue their journey of success.
