Fame Gurukul is not just a singing competition, it is also a reality based show. A show where the singing talents of contestants are put to test, besides the human persona behind the singers/contestants are also shown to the public. That is what the whole show is about.
Indian Idol was a true singing competition in every sense of the word, where we were not aware of how good a human being is Abhijeet Sawant or how Amit Sana comes from a poor background or how arrogant Rahul Vaidya is...all we knew was that they were excellent singers, because that was what was shown to us and we had to chose the best amongst them. The only exception to this was Ravinder Ravi who was chosen by the public to go to Top 5 as that would enable him to get the prize of 60,000/-. The audience chose the best amongs them, based only on their abilities to sing.
The contestants in Fame Gurukul are under the scanner (that is being monitored by the Camera) 24 hrs a day...hence even if someone wants to fake being a nice guy, he cannot do that. Also remember, that FG contestants have no access to Television or to the outside world, hence they have no clue of how they are being projected on Television! If that would have been the case, then I am sure that Arpita and Rex had better sense than sitting in the dark and plotting against Qazi.....as they would have known that it would show them in a very bad light!
The same rule applies to Qazi as well. Not in a single episode, did we see Qazi speaking a word against any contestants, or criticizing any of the faculty or the judges...whatever he said was before the Camera, when he was fully aware that he is being watched by millions. The message that got to the audience was that Qazi was genuinly a nice guy and spoke his mind clearly and implicitly in front of everyone and did not go and cry in front of the faculty every second hour.
We as the audience, not only heard the FG contestants sing, but also came to judge them as human beings...and no wonder that most of us took an immediate liking for Qazi and Ruprekha, because all said and done, they were the most likeable, honest and simple amongst the whole lot.
The whole idea of a reality based show is that the audience judges the contestants.....the judges & faculty are only there to give a ''Professional'' view on whose voice is better, or who needs more training...it is we, the audience, who decides whom we would like to see on Television and Stage.
If the whole idea was of getting the 2 best singers as the FG, then why did Sony ever show Shamit bitching about Qazi, or Arpita forever trying to get Qazi out of the show somehow???? Wouldn't it be obvious to the Producers of Fame Gurukul, that the audience will automatically reject someone who is being shown to them in a bad light and will accept the one who is shown as a better human being?
People like us care very little for hearing a ''good voice''....if that would have been the case, then I personally thought that Kirti was the most talented of the lot, but unfortunately got bumped off early on! We the audience, want a total package as the Fame Jodi. A person who can sing reasonably well, who has stage presence, who is charming and popular and most important of all, one whom we think is a ''Good Human Being''. Many people might differ from this view, stating that this is a singing competition and not a pesonality contest....but the way God has made us, most of us, think by our hearts and not by our minds......
And our hearts say that Qazi and Ruprekha are the best people and they deserve the most to win this competition.......who the hell cares if Qazi cannot sing ''Kawa Kawa?'' We can always get Shamit back to croon once in a whileš
Cheers,
MT
