Hello
This is to share some facts that happened during the last few days of Indian Idol, when Mumbai's Abhijeet Sawant was running for Indian Idol with Amit Sana.
Why did Abhijeet Sawant get so many votes, suddenly?
The answer is, there was a campaign run by local newspapers in Mumbai to vote for the Local Boy Abhijeet Sawant rather than the outsider called Amit Sana.
There were interviews of his far fledged relatives who were making calls to each and every person they knew and request them to vote for Abhijeet Sawant and also requesting them to pass the message and ask the ones they know to vote for Abhijeet.
It so happened, one informed the other, the other to 10 others and 10 others 100 others and so on.
The contest became 1 sided and Abhijeet Won.
No doubt Abhijeet is and was a good singer, but media especially newspapers carrying articles to vote for him in Mumbai did the damage to Amit Sana.
Here are some statistics as why Mumbai's voting proved costly to Amit Sana. The entire population of Mumbai is around 1.75 crore, consiting of the City, Suburbs and Thane and Kalyan District which are just inside 1 hours of journey. Meaning 17.5 million people. Even if you take half of them who might be having mobiles, it goes to a staggering 8.7 million, 87 lakhs. Considering that imagine how people voted when the media was running the campaign.
Here is the link to Mumbai's largest selling afternoon tabliod which carried one such article requesting people to vote for local boy.

This is just one of the newspaper which carried out this article in Print and Web, then there were many local newspaper who were propagating this.
I just hope that this Fame Gurukul doesnt end up on same path with Rex D'souza being another Mumbaikar !!!!!!
Regards,
Abby
