I think Col decision of choosing akash for rescue mission was right IMO. He clearly mentioned that this rescue mission had its dangers and was equal to jumping in valley you know is filled with thorns.
No matter how excellent climber Anjali is, she is still a beginner when it comes to expeditions. This is her first. He justified that he'd have choosen anjali if it was Everest expedition, but this is literally a suicide mission and he just can't see a a girl die before his own eyes for no reason. He sees anjali as his own daughter. I suppose, thinking from Col's POV will clear up a few things.
Another thing, physically men are stronger than women. Hence if they come across some injured men on the way, akash will be more helpful than Anjali. In this mission, physical strength is required more than mental strength. I am not saying anjali is weak or anything, she is shown to be an excellent climber.
