Yesterday Lama told Arjun don't go for expedition. We can call it superstition if we believe it and say we will go ahead as we don't believe in it.
But Lama was right. With the current attitude if the team goes for expedition they will surely fail. Because their eye is on the destination than in the journey. Each person has things associated with success and failure of summit. Let me start from Arjun
For Arjun Everest summit is a ego battle plus the deal he stuck with Rungta for the ornament. If he succeed well all the fame is at his feet so is the money. If he fails well Rungta can be angry don't know what the contract says if he fails, also his ego takes a beating
Anjali- If he summits she proves to her father she is equal to a boy, if she fails then the dad can make mockery of her
Aakash- His climb itself is for Shika Maa. If Arjun goes he has to go. If Arjun summits he has to summit. If he doesn't summit along with Arjun then his career will end up in a mess
Col Abayankar- He has to take Anjali to summit and bring her down to get over the guilt of losing his wife. If he fails the guilt remains
Khanna- He needs to prove to Abayankar his judgement right. If the team summit he prove Abayankar was wrong denying him the chance to climb Everest.
So ego is associated for each one of them. Outcome has different repcurssions for each of them, hence they are concentrating on outcome than their action.
That is why Khanna is not thinking why the weather pattern changed suddenly. He is more looking into climbing season will come to closure in 2 weeks and next 7 days looks clear.
That is why col not questioning Khanna drilling him check why the weather pattern changed.
That is why Anjali doesn't think why Lama said don't go. Is there a basis or the question why their expedition advanced.
All this questions which the heart is asking are ignored by the head because ego clouds the voice of the heart.
So Lama will turn out to be right if the team goes with the present attitude. So when will Lama proved wrong.
When the team start concentrating on the journey than the destination
When the team start concentrating on the action than the outcome
When the individual ego gives place to collective wisdom on what is good and what is not.
In other words ego will have to shed and fear of failure has to go if Lama has to be proven wrong.
Look at the Sherpa leader who tells his team who are frightful. We have to do our duty and the mountain will protect us. That is his faith. He feels if he does his duty or the commitment given to expedition team SagarMatha wont betray the Sherpas. He doesn't care about whether to summit or not. His focus is on action than outcome. Outcome he has left to Sagarmatha.
Expedition team has to be like that Sherpa leader. Only control they have is attempt the summit on Everest, but will they succeed or not is in the hands of Sagarmatha herself. She has to be respected like that. Give her the option of allowing you in her world or not, don't force you on her.
In other words the famous lines of BG which is relevant even today is going to play out to prove Lama wrong

Karmanye Vadhikaraste, Ma phaleshou kada chana,
Ma Karma Phala Hetur Bhurmatey Sangostva Akarmani"
Concentrate on action, because if you concentrate on action you will be able to treat success and failure same.
