Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery is the lesson of the day from Gayatri to the audience.
Gayatri
Women in that era were seen as a yes or no robot, in fact more of a yes robot. She had to agree to everything that was thrown her way because her sole aim was to be a slave to her future husband and his family. She had no right to dream, by dreaming she is committing a sin and her punishment is to marry a man thrice her age.
Gayatri is a formidable character as far as female characters on television is concerned. She is not someone who stands back and allow wrong to win. She understands where she stands as woman of that era, she is not stupid. But at the same time, she is not willing to be bullied into doing things that she does not feel comfortable in. Here mere character screams the following quotation of Gandhi Ji: you can chain me, you can torture me, you can even destroy my body but you will never imprison my mind.' That last scene when she stands up despite the various insults her own mother and sister in laws ensure she endured at their mercy.
Gayatri has been told by her mother growing up that she should always keep her mouth shut because she is a female but that has not stop her from having her own opinion and that is wonderful to see. She has always been reminded that she is a burden on them but she never truly believed that because for her, her mother and father would always be there for her. After all, she was their laadli beti. But I guess sometimes truth is too bitter of a pill to swallow and this was forced down her throat today. Gayatri being told love is not important in a relationship. It's merely the name that requires and is expected to live with that name. I love how she then questions whether girls are not allow to consider their own emotions, etc. However, this did not break her spirit and that was lovely to see. I loved her post reaction ie the precap. I am happy she has realised she does not have any well-wishers in the house and has elected to write to RanaJi expressing her feelings.
She has considered herself as a daughter of the Seth household not as a burden of the Seth household and she is being punished for daring to think this liberally.
I look forward to seeing what she will do to prove her worth.
Gayatri and Govind Seth/ Father-Daughter Duo
A father's tears and fears are unseen, his love is unexpressed, but his care and protection remains as a pillar of strength throughout our lives.'
I was not expecting much from tonight's episode as I was greatly disappointed by Govind Seth's reaction the day previously. But today the sher roared. I love how he had an answer to everything. I love how he said that his daughter would have been unlucky if her alliance would have happened with Buddha Saab. This scene brought a smile to my face. He is happy to have his daughter sit at home unwed because he is her father and he wants to ensure his daughter lives a happy life rather than a life full of sorrow. Gayatri is not a burden on her father. She is his ray of sunshine; his reason of being. He is happy to provide for her till the day she dies. What a beautiful bond they portrayed between father and daughter in this show. Govind is ready to bring the moon for her daughter but alas his wife put him in a tight spot by giving him that kasam. However, when his daughter fell on his feet and begged him to save her, he could not help but roar. He was sitting there taking all the nonsense but when he realised his daughter needed his support, he did not hesistate to show that buddha and his family the mirror. Kudos to him.
Govind went to ask his wife, exactly what happiness a male older than himself can give his daughter. He tells her she is her mother and even then she is thinking of strangling her daughter with her own hands, and she is so evil, her response is, am her mother and that is why am thinking along this line. What she should have said was, am a woman who believes society should mock my husband and daughter, and I will still put society's value in front of all my close ones sentiments.'
