I agree with u but still I will say damayanti is not a negative character. she loves her daughter for sure but somehow her love is not more than the fear of society.. I m actually disappointed with her and everyone of gayaatris family but this is what reality of that time..So I will say we should stop over reacting for this small reasons as we already know this show is from a different era there will be lots of things of that era and CVS have to cover those all customs and believes to make it look more practical and also move forward the storyline

I don't like people which don't love their daughters the same way like their sons and keep saying that their daughter hasn't got a home at her parents house, the inheritance and wealth of the father she can't live there with them, so what its not the end of the world if she never marries also. Why must they keep to the custom, why not leave her to stay in peace. They've got such a big house why can't she have a place there and let go of these silly customs that alienate their own daughter as if she is a stranger.

Perhaps she is using those harsh words so that Bauji & Gayu gets ready for marriage. But this is completely regressive. I am not liking her mother currently.
