I was initially not going to post this ever given the forum was dead, but now that there are people here, here it goes.

Chander - Quiet, reserved, mature, responsible, Chander comes across as a sound person. He probably thinks through everything, knows his limits, and is mature beyond his age. Yet there's also a childish nature to him in that he can't keep track of basic things like Sudha commented.

Sudha - She's the exact opposite of Chander. Hyper, spunky, loud, demanding, but all in a good way. She's energetic and even more childish than Chander. But she perfectly keeps track of things Chander needs and helps him along.

Chander and Sudha - It's too early to see how their relationship will play out, but from the one scene and the precap it appears both perfectly complement each other. And not only that but from the way Sudha and Chander thought about each other, it is more than just friendship. It's mutual understanding and love as well.

The first episode in general - It was good. I loved how they started with what the possible ending could be to the show. Though I must say that the beginning reminded me of Do Badan. In Do Badan, there's a scene at the end, where Asha Parekh is seen waiting for Manoj Kumar on her deathbed and when Manoj Kumar arrives the 2 share a few words before both die in each other's arms. It reminded me of that. There was a moment when they moved from present to the past and what stood out was how the present was rainy, dark, and dreary and the past was sunny, bright, and a beautiful moment. That was a nice contrast and it really highlighted the difference between the two. Additionally if you noticed the car in the present was black (or at least it looked black) but in the past Sudha was sitting in a maroon car. Even the clothes highlighted the same.

The starcast - I love the starcast. Some brilliant acting by all. I don't know everyone by name and I don't recognize everyone, but it was still well-chosen. I've been a long-time fan of Rahil Azam. He's a great actor, so I was glad to see this show finally see the light of day.

Overall, a great start. Now let's see how this week progresses, and maybe at the end of the week I'll be back with a longer and more detailed review.

Glad you made the post after all. Even I wanted to make a post but refrained doue to the same reason as you mentioned. I agree first episode was gripping and well etched out. The starting scene was very impactful and I am happy they started from almost the climax point and chose to tell the story in flashback. It increases the curiousity factor esp for those who haven't read the novel. Chander is indeed wise and mature beyond his years, and its only with Sudha that we get a glimpse of his playful and carefree side. Sudha is fascinating. Yes she is ziddi, a bit spoiled, immature and childish and yet there is a purity and simplicity in her soul which shines through esp when it comes to her concern for Chander. The college scenes were good. I think overall they have been able to achieve the authencity in terms of setting and dialogues which is crucial for a period show. I am particularly happy with the choice of actors. I haven't actually followed any of Rahils show but know him to be good actor, even if just a bit mature for the character. I don't know the lead actress but I can see that she suits the role perfectly. Her features have old world Charm so she is convincing as a 60 girl. She can emote and is blessed with particularly expressive eyes. Again a big plus for this character. Sudha father is a veteran actor and his credentials are well established. Even the character roles have been well cast.
Overall a very good start with well paced narrative.

I was initially going to read the novel if I could find an English version, but then I decided not to because it would keep the story fresh.

I love the characterization of Sudha as well. She's a perfect mix of childish and fun and responsible and simple.

I have seen Sudha's father as well, but I can't remember which shows anymore. But he's really good and they have chosen well indeed.

I am usually quick to dismiss a female lead if her character is OTT or too immature or childish. But the fact that I have witnessed her journey and progression as character makes it much easier for me to empathize with her. The inexplicable love and concern she has for Chander without the stamp of any relationship is something rare to find. This relationship was beautifully portrayed in the novel. lets see to what an extent they are able to translate it on screen. I would totally recommend the novel if you manage to find it. It's considered a classic in Hindi Lit, and not without a reason.

@all - Thank you so very much for the review. Have been a Laagi only viewer for the storyline firstly. Enjoyed that for the short period until the usual introduction of no-meaningful concept or story.

Just happened on this show by chance, flipping channel. If there was any I did not see if there was any promotion or articles on it before. Sure hoping the Production House and Channel keep it to a finite show with not much added drama. So far for the 1st episode showing climax as starting point, IMHO a very good start. Will watch for now. Like some of you have not read the English version of the book if there is one for the very same reason, would like to enjoy episode by episode not knowing what is going to happen next. I did not see any members here when I logged in to find out about the show so did not comment but again thank you sincerely. Alex

^ Hi Alex. The show is a finite series. Only 20 episodes. It has been pre-shot. It was in the news last year and then it got shelved. I'm surprised it ever saw the light of day, but I'm happy that it did.

Nice review Shreya. Yes the beginning reminded me too of Do Badan and when I saw the spunky Sudha in the FB in contrast with the beginning scene it reminded me of the Malayalam movie Mazhayenthum munpe( Before the rain comes) in a twisted way. In that also the spunky parallel lead Shruthi who by her own choices and quirk of fate meets a tragical end. In Malayalam movie Shruthi had the grey shade, here it seems Chander will have the grey shade. In Malayalam movie punishment was for Shruthi, here it seems punishment is for Chander.
But I am loving the feel and I am so glad such a beautiful tale is being told on television
