Chapter 4
Kalpana: I know I don't listen to my parents. I really wanted to live my life in their guidance. I really wanted to be a good child. I really wanted my parents to be proud to have a daughter like me. They gave me a lot of things a child needs in life, expensive gifts, luxurious lifestyle. They were ready to give me anything which can be bought with money.
Taking a deep breath she continued, "But they were not ready to give me their precious time. I was yearning for my parents love. They had their own life where I was not permitted. I kept spending my life alone. I was not allowed to open up my mouth. My every decision was taken by them but never bothered to ask me what I want, never wanted to know where my lacking is. No one was there to share my pain. I lost interest to live my life. Slowly I was going far away not only from them but from the world. I felt like I was falling down a cliff leading to nowhere. Then one day God sent a person to help me get up from there. I saw a glimpse to live my life. I owe him a lot. If there is a day I need to repay I am willing even sacrificing my life."
Karan was just listening to her without uttering a word. He felt sorry for Kalpana. Taking a deep breath he said, "Kalpana, I am really sorry. I didn't know that you were carrying so much pain in your heart. I wish I could be that person. But I am really grateful to him for staying by my best friend's side when she needed it the most." Putting his palm on her cheek, Karan said with a smile, "I wish you all the happiness you deserve in your life." Kalpana smiled with teary eyes and said, "Thank you." She hugged him. Karan hugged her back. While hugging, Karan said in his mind, though you didn't pour your heart clearly but I know your heart only belongs to him.
Few days later
Seeing Kalpana was getting ready in her room, Nitu asked, "Where are you going?"
Kalpana: I am going out with Karan for lunch
Nitu: good. Do some shopping for him as he is going back to USA soon.
Kalpana: I will.
Saying so Kalpana left from there. Karan was waiting outside for her in the car to pick up. Seeing her coming toward his car, he got out of the car. Kalpana was wearing a soft pink knee length one piece dress with pearl jewelry. Though she didn't put up that much make up but she was looking stunning.
Kalpana: sorry to make you wait.
"I am ready to wait for you my entire life," Karan said teasing.
Karan: By the way you are looking beautiful as always.
Kalpana: thank you. Can we go now?
"Sure," saying Karan opened the door for Kalpana to get into the car. Both Nitu and Sahil were watching them from the window of their house. They were so happy seeing them together.
Nitu: Finally Kalpana accepted our decision.
Sahil: yah. Both of them look good together. As a son-in-law Karan matches perfectly in our society. Hope they stay like this until they get married.
Nitu: I hope so.
Once Kalpana and Karan reached one of the five star hotels, one of the waiters lead them to a table which was booked by Karan. Karan pulled a chair for Kalpana and he sat opposite to her. Handing over the menu, the waiter said, "Sir what would you like to order?" After placing orders Karan thanked Kalpana for coming with him and told her that he will miss her.
Kalpana: Call me when you will miss me.
Karan: Are you sure? Whenever I call you never seem to pick up the phone.
Kalpana smiled and said, "From now on I will"
While talking to each other Karan's eyes fell on a person sitting at the corner table with few other people. Karan smiled and said, "Kalpana, look, who is here?"
Kalpana: who?
Karan: My competitor
Kalpana looked behind and saw Ragahv. "Shh.. he will listen to you," Kalpana said. "Let's go there and say hello' to sir," saying so Kalpana got off from there. Karan also followed her behind.
KAlpana: Hi sir
Karan: Hello Mr. Singhania.
Ragahv: hello Ms. Kapoor. Hello Mr. Mehta. Nice to see you
Karan: Nice to see you too
Ragahv: I came here with my foreign delegates. Would you like to join us?
Kalpana: No, we are fine. We already booked a table over there.
Ragahv: Ok, no problem. Enjoy.
Kalpana: thank you
Kalpana and Karan walked toward their table. While sipping his drink Karan was just looking at Ragahv. Kalpana noticed it.
Kal: What are you looking at?
Karan: You know what I am really jealous?
Kal: why?
Karan: I wish I could be in his place.
Kal: shh..talk quietly. He will listen.
While paying the bill of their table, Ragahv said to the waiter, "Can you get me the bill for that table?"
Waiter: sure sir. Just give me two minutes.
While eating Kalpana asked, "Karan, what are you doing tomorrow?"
Karan: why?
Kal: I want to take you for shopping. You treated me for the lunch. Now let me do something for you.
Karan: ok.
He called the waiter for the bill. Showing the corner table where Ragahv was sitting, the waiter said, "Before leaving, sir already paid your bill." Hearing the waiter, Karan said, "see Kalpana, he didn't leave any option to take all my chances. Though I brought you here but he paid the bill."
"Aweee," Kalpana said teasing. "Come let me take a picture of your sad face," saying so Kalpana took a picture. Karan got off from his chair and sat next to her. "Lets take a selfie," saying so he brought Kalpana close to him by holding her shoulder. In the meantime Ragahv came back to the hotel as he left his phone on the table. While walking toward his table, his eyes fell on Karan and Kalpana sitting closely. After thinking something he smiled and then left from there taking his phone in his hand.
The next day
Kalpana took Karan for shopping. She helped him choose few branded t-shirts. She told him to try them on. Karan tried one by one and showed Kalpana. After trying on third one finally Kalpana said yes. There was another person who was doing shopping in the same store. It was none other than Raghav. Hearing a familiar female voice, Ragahv looked behind, "Karan, take it as you are looking handsome in this t-shirt." Then Kalpana came close to Karan and fixed the collar of his t-shirt. Ragahv didn't want to bother them. He left from there silently.
Two days later
Kalpana went to Ragahv's office. She directly went to his cabin. He was all alone in his cabin. Seeing Kalpana, Ragahv said, "Hi Ms. Kapoor! How is everything?"
Kalpana: everything is fine. Sorry, last four days I was so busy with Karan as he left for USA last night.
Ragahv: no problem. Family is very important.
Kalpana: Though I couldn't make to come here for four days but I didn't forget to study.
Hearing her, Raghav smiled and said, "Have a seat."
Kalpana: sir, are you busy? Sorry I dint inform you before coming here.
Ragahv: just give me 15 minutes. Let me finish what I am working on right now then we will go over.
Kalpana: Ji.
Ragahv was doing his work while Kalpana was reading book. In the meantime one office staff came and informed Ragahv that he has to go to Dubai next week for two weeks for a contract. Hearing the staff, both Ragahv and Kalpana looked at each other. Then he looked at his staff and said, "Can you talk to the client to proponed it for six weeks?"
Stuff: Sir let me talk to the client. I will let you know.
Looking at Kalpana, Raghav said, "Ms. Kapoor, will your exam be done by this time?"
Kalpana: sir, if it is an emergency you can go.
Ragahv: don't worry about it. Just concentrate on your study. You don't have enough time.
While Ragahv was helping Kalpana, the same stuff came and informed Ragahv that the client was ready to wait for two weeks. After that, the client will cancel the deal.
Ragahv: don't worry. I will talk to the client.
The next day on Sunday morning, Kalpana went to Ragahv's house. She was worried about his deal in Dubai that's why thought to ask him about it first.
Kalpana: sir, did you talk to the client regarding the contract in Dubai?
Ragavh: Hm
Kalpana: Did they agree to wait?
Ragahv: Don't worry. I have lot more projects need to be completed staying here in India.
Kalpana felt bad for Ragahv. He noticed that she was sitting with an upset face lowering her head. To cheer her up Ragahv said, "I think you would be happier if I leave India as you can get enough time to cheat not to study." Kalpana raised her head to meet his eyes. "But I am telling you, you fell into strict hands and there is no chance to cheat." Hearing him Kalpana smiled. Ramu kaka was passing from there. he heard Ragahv.
Ramu: I am glad your deal got cancelled. Beti, you know what I always pray to God not helping him by getting him any contract. I want him staying here at home 24/7.
Raghav: kaka how can you say that
Ramu: why not? Though I am not your parents I am the only one who raised you and stayed by your side since you were born. I have all the right to see my child to lead a happy life not a robotic life.
Raghav: Ok kaka, I know what you want, can you please stop now so I can help Kalpana
Kalpana: Sir, will you be busy in the morning?
Raghav: Why, you want to come?
Kal: yes
Raghav: what about your school?
Kal: One of my classes is taking us camping for two days.
Raghav: you are not going?
Kal: no
Raghav: why not? you should experience something new in life. Go out and make friends. That way you won't be so lonely.
After thinking something, "okay I will go."
The next day in the evening Raghav was flipping through files in his office cabin with the tv on mute. There was a client with him and he slowly turned the volume up.
News: ...and while taking him from one cell to the other, the other terrorists attacked the police to save him. While they were fighting, the police followed the terrorists while they were running toward a nearby campsite in which students of xyz high school were on a trip.
Raghav looked up and listened to the news carefully.
News:...They've captured the students all in one place and claim to say they will kill them if police doesn't let them go. Police are in jeopardy and.."
"Kalpana," the only word escaped from his mouth.
