Chapter 1
In Delhi
Jadhav's residence
She was running here and there to finish her household work so that she could reach the college on time. After giving her younger sister a bath, she put a container of warm water for her father in the bathroom. She looked at the wall clock. It was 8 AM. She was about to knock on the door of her parents' bedroom in the meant time Vittal woke up and opened it. seeing him, a smile appeared on her face. "Good morning baba," she said. "Good morning meri bachchi," Vittal said with a smile. "Baba, you go and take shower in the mean time I will serve your breakfast." Hearing her younger sister calling her by her name, "Kalpana didi, please help me tying my hair." "I am coming choti," saying so Kalpana went to their bedroom to help Prerna to tie her hair. While tying her hair, Kalpana said, "Choti, go and wake Aai up."
Prerna: why do you always give me that job when you do everything by yourself?
When Prerna didn't hear anything from her, she said, "I understand you scare of Aai, right?" Kalpana smiled and said, "no choti, it is not like you are thinking." Then Kalpana left from there. While everyone was having breakfast, Kalpana was serving. "Kalpana, you sit with us or you will get late for the college." Hearing Vittal, Kalpana looked at Nitu who was eating quietly. "Why are you looking at her? Just sit and eat with us," Vittal said. Kalpana nodded her head and then sat beside Prerna.
"Aai, I have finished all the work. Can I go to college now?" Hearing Kalpana, Nitu got angry and said, "Don't call me Aai. How many times I have to remind you." Vittal noticed Kalpana's eyes filled with water.
Vittal: what is wrong with you Nitu? After she left her coffee shop job, you became even more ruthless. Every day she wakes up at 5 AM and does all the work by herself without any complain and still you never leave any option to insult her. You are really lucky that after doing all this toward Kalpana she still respect you.
Nitu: ha ha. She is the only daughter na that's why you always take her side.
Vittal was about to say something but Kalpana stopped him by her eyes. After dropping Prerna off to the school, while walking to the bus stop, Vittal said, "I am sorry beta. I shouldn't have married to that lady. After Kamla die, I was having hard time to take care of you and my job at the same time. Then I thought if I get married at least she would be able to take care of you and give you love you deserve. But she became totally opposite." "It's ok baba. I don't mind with any of her taunt." Taking his hand in her, Kalpana continued, "When I see your and choti's face, I forget everything." Caressing her hair, Vittal said, "How understandable you are beta. God gives you all the happiness you deserve in life." Kalpana hugged Vittal and said, "I am very lucky to have you as my father. When my baba's blessing is with me, no one can snatch my happiness away from me." Then Kalpana left for the college and Vital his office.
On the other hand in a dark room, someone with broken heart was sitting on a couch leaning his back with his eyes closed. "Beta, I became old now. I want you to come and settle down in India and take care of my business." "Dad, Prem is there na. He will take care of your business." "Bro, you are not only my brother but I consider you as my mentor too. I would like to be a successful businessman like you that's why I want you to come and teach me. Also I miss my childhood and your company when you would take care of me, support me." I will surely Prem." "Beta, I really miss you a lot. Miss those days when we all used to spend time together. If possible please do come in India soon." "Mom, just give me two more weeks." These words were ringing into his ears which he couldn't fulfill and never could fulfill. His trance broke hearing the sound of the opening of the door. He slowly opened his eyes as the Manager Mr. Khanna switched on the light of the room. Mr. Khanna used to work for Vikram. After he died he worked for his son now. Handing over a file manager said, "sir, here is all the information of that girl you wanted me to collect." Then the manager placed the file on the center table and left from there. He took the file in his hand and flipped over the first page. He read the name, KALPANA JADHAV'. He got off from the couch and walked toward a frame with his whole family's picture in it hanging on the wall. Looking at the picture he whispered, "I will snatch everything away from her who snatched mine and that's a promise from Raghav Singhania." His eyes were burning with rage.
Few days later
XYZ Bank
It was a busy day. Vittal looked at the wall clock. It was 7 PM. "I have to go home now," mumbling to himself he started packing his bag up. Seeing Anil, one of the tellers of the Bank coming toward him, Vittal asked, "Anil, you are still here? You didn't go home yet?"
Anil: I was about to but in the meantime a client came in with 3 crore rupees.
Vittal: he would like to deposit money?
Anil: yes
Vittal: didn't you tell him that we can't do it in absence of our manager?
Anil: I did but he is not ready to listen to me. Vittal ji, if you don't mind can you please talk to the client?
Vittal: Ok
Vittal saw that a 50 years old man was standing in front of the counter with a black suitcase. He walked toward him and said, "Sir, I am sorry, we are already closed. Please come on Monday."
The man: I know I am already late but please try to understand my situation. It is not safe to carry such a big amount. Also tomorrow is Sunday and the Bank is closed.
Vittal: I can understand your situation. I would definitely help you if our manager would be here but he already left. We can't accept such a big amount without his presence.
The man: please call your manager if you can do it.
Vittal: For your satisfaction, I am going to call my manager but I am sure he won't agree.
Then Vittal dialed his manager's number.
Manager: yes Vittal ji. What is that urgent that you called me at this time?
Vittal: sir, one client came with 3 crore rupees and would like to deposit.
Manager: ok, deposit it. Make sure give him the receipt.
Vittal was surprised as this was the first time Manager allowed without his presence. Few seconds later, he let it go from his mind and told Anil to deposit the money. Vittal was with Anil to complete the transaction. Taking the receipt with him, the man left from there. "Vittal ji, please put the money in the safe deposit box," Anil said handing over the money. After Anil left, Vittal put the money into the safe deposit box and then left from there.
Jadhav's residence
While everyone was having dinner, Vittal said, "I have good news for all of you."
Prerna: what is that baba?
Vittal: We are going to Mumbai to see the whole city.
Kalpana: Really Baba?
Vittal: hm.
He came near Kalpana and whispered into her ears so that Nitu can't hear it, "I still remember, you wished to see that dream city long time ago but I couldn't take you there. Now it is time to fulfill your wishes."
Kal: but it will be so expensive
Vittal: don't worry about money. I saved some extra for this.
The next day early in the morning Vittal and his family left the house to Mumbai. Vittal took six days off from his work for Mumbai trip.
One week later
On the way in the bus while going to his work place, he recalled how his daughters enjoyed the Mumbai trip. He was also happy he got a chance to spend time with his daughters and was able to bring smile on their faces as well. Remembering their moments in Mumbai, a smile appeared on his face. But his smile disappeared once he entered into the office. He noticed all the office staffs looking at him and whispering into each other's ears. Before he could understand anything, an office boy came and told him that the manager called him to his cabin. Seeing Vittal in his cabin, the manager said, "Vittal ji, please come and have a seat. I need to talk to you." The manager seemed worried. While fixing himself on a chair, Vittal asked, "Sir, what is the matter?" Looking at Vittal, the manager said, "Vittal ji, I tried to contact you, but I couldn't."
Vittal: Sir, I already told you that I am going to Mumbai.
Manager: I know but at least keep your phone with you na.
Vittal: sir, I was so excited about the trip that's why didn't realize when I left the phone at home. When I realized it was already too late.
Manager: Anyway, come to the point. Vittal ji, where is the money that you guys deposited that night without my presence?
Vittal: Are you talking about 3 crore rupees?
Manager: yes
Vittal: it is in the safety box. Let me show you
Taking out the safety box key from his bag, Vittal was about to get off from his chair, but the manager stopped him saying, "Money is not in there Vittal ji. I have a duplicate key and I already checked it." hearing him, Vittal was shocked. "Sir what are you saying? I put the money with my own hands," hearing Vittal, manager said, "Then where did the money go? We have only two keys of that safety box. One is with me and the other one is with you. Without you and me no one touches that safety box." All of a sudden something came up into his mind.
Vittal: Sir, please check the CCTV camera. You will get to know who is behind this.
It was his last hope to save himself from accusing him as a thief but all went in vein when the manager said, "Vittal ji, our CCTV camera is not working since few days." The manager continued, "If you are unable to manage 3 crore in 7 days then I am sorry to say that you have to go to jail."
Jadhav's residence
After her college, Kalpana came back home in the afternoon. Seeing her entering into the house, Nitu walked toward her and said worried, "Kalpana, go and check your baba. Once he came back home, he kept himself locked into his room. He neither talked to anyone nor did he eat anything. Hearing Nitu, Kalpana was worried. "Let me see," saying so Kalpana knocked on the door and said, "Baba, please open the door." after few minutes Vittal opened the door.
On the same day
XYZ Bank
In managers cabin
Kal: sir, my father has been in this company since 8 years. He has been very honest employee since years but all of a sudden how can you accuse him stealing money?
Manager: Ms. Kalpana, I can understand he has been a very honest employee since years but I can't do anything as all the proof was against him. I know it is a big amount of money but still you have to manage it in 7 days.
While walking on the street, "I can't let my baba go to jail. But how I will be able to manage 3 crore in 7 days?" Mumbling to herself, Kalpana didn't realize when she reached home. She directly went to her room and walked to the Almirah. Taking out a jewelry box, she went to Nitu and said, "Here is some jewelry my Aai left it for me for my wedding. I am going to sell it so that I could manage some money." Hearing her Nitu said, "Wait, I have some. Let me bring it." Gathering all the jewelry, Kalpana and Nitu directly went to a jewelry shop. Taking 1,10,000 rupees with them Kalpana and Nitu came back home. Vittal broke FD of 5 Lakh; he kept it for Kalpana's marriage. Including Vittal's money they were able to manage 6,00,000 rupees. Kalpana didn't have any close relatives so that she could borrow some money. She went to the coffee shop she used to work and talked to the owner. He willingly gave her 40,000 rupees as he used to like Kalpana as his own daughter. This is how Kalpana was able to manage another 2,00,000 rupees from here and there. She went to several banks to take loan but everyone denied.
6 days later
XYZ Bank
In Manager's cabin
Handing over 8 lakh rupees to the manager, Kalpana said, "Sir, I tried a lot but I couldn't manage more than this. Please consider me. Please give me more time. I promise I will pay you all the money back." In the meantime one of the office staffs came in and said, "Sir, Mr. Khanna is here to widrow all his money." Looking at Kalpana, the manager said, "Ms. Kalpana, Mr. Khanna is here. Now tell me how I will be able to pay his money back? He is just a client and not a relative so that he could understand your situation and forgive you." Then the manager got off from the chair. Before he got out of the cabin, he said, "Ms. Kalpana, you have only one more day left. Go and manage money or ready to go to the jail." Then he left from there leaving Kalpana tensed. Few minutes later Kalpana came out of the cabin taking 8 lakh with her and saw the manager was talking to a person through the glass wall. Then Kalpana left from there.
Since half an hour Kalpana was sitting on the Bank's stair. She didn't know why but she was sitting there quietly. All of a sudden, seeing the same person whom she saw talking to the manager going to the car, she mumbled to herself, "He must be Mr. Khanna." She stood up and walked toward him. The person was about to open the door of the car but stopped hearing, "Mr. Khanna." The person turned back to look at Kalpana. "Yes, I am Mr. Khanna and you?" Mr. Khanna said. "Hi, my name is Kalpana Jadhav. Can I talk to you for a minute?" Kalpana asked.
Mr. Khanna: ha tell me
Kal: Actually, I am daughter of Vittal Jadhav, the person who has been accused for stealing money.
Mr. Khanna: I see. I already met your dad. I never thought a person like him could do such things.
Kal: He didn't steal money. He can't even think of stealing money in his dream. My father has been an honest employee since years. When all the proof are against him and I was not able to prove my father innocent, I decided to pay back. I was able to manage 8 lakh but I need more time.
Khanna: why do you think Bank will agree?
Kal: I know Bank will not agree but you can. This is your money and you can help me granting some time.
Khanna: how much time do you need? 2 weeks, one month, two months, six months? Do you really think a girl like you would be able to pay a big amount like 3 crore in that time? Never.
Saying so he was about to get into the car but stopped thinking something. "By the way this money belongs to someone else who I work for. If it would belong to me, I could do something for you."
Kal: this is true that a girl like me wont be able to pay off in that limited time, this is also true that I won't be able to see my father going to jail.
Putting her palms together, Kalpana requested, "Mr. Khanna, please, talk to your boss. I will give my whole life working for him without getting any paid. I know he may not need me but I still want you to help me as I have no other option besides this at this moment." Handing over a piece of paper with her phone number, Kalpana said, "This is my number. I will be grateful to you if you could talk to your boss." Taking a deep breath, he said, "Ok, let me talk to my boss. But I can't guarantee you. I will give you a call later." then he left from there.
Jadhav's residence
8 PM
It's been 8 hours since she spoke to Mr. Khanna but he didn't call Kalpana yet. She kept on looking at her phone. Another two hours passed but still there was a no sign of him calling. One more day. If she couldn't do anything, her father has to go to..., Kalpana couldn't think more. She walked to his parent's room. She was about to knock on the door but stopped thinking he must be sleeping. Then she came back to her room. Two hours later hearing Nitu's frantic voice, "Kalpana, your baba is not feeling well," she ran to her parent's room.
In the Hospital
Doctor: Ms. Kalpana, your father had a mild stroke. I gave him an injection. He is sleeping now. He needs complete bed rest and please do not give him any stress.
After the doctor left whole night Kalpana was sitting beside Vittal. For a moment she didn't release his hand from her grip. She felt like, if she releases his hand she would lose him for forever. All of a sudden, her phone rang. Taking the phone with her, she came out of the cabin. Without looking at the number, Kalpana picked up the phone and said, "Hello!
Mr. Khanna: Ms. Jadhav
Kal: yes
Kalpana was in so much tensed that she couldn't recognize his voice.
Khanna: Ms Jadhav, this is Mr. Khanna.
Hearing the name Kalpana stood like a statue. Her heart stopped beating for a moment as if she was going to hear him denying her to help.
Mr. Khanna: Are you there Ms. Jadhav?
Kal: hm
Khanna: I spoke to my boss. He is ready to consider you.
Hearing him, Kalpana felt loss of word. She heard him continuing, "Ms. Jadhav, he just wants you to stick on your word. I am going to text you the place and time where you need to come tomorrow. My boss is very strict. Just be there on time."
Kal: hm
She cut the call and then looked at Vittal who was sleeping through the glass wall. A joyful tear escaped from her eyes as finally she was able to save her father.
The next day
Singhania Mansion
Kalpana reached the place on time. Mr. Khanna gave her some papers to sign. Though she didn't know what type of job she has to do but one thing she got to know that she has to accomplish all the tasks that will be given by Mr. Khanna and his boss efficiently.
Raghav was reading a file in his office room, facing his back. In the meantime, Mr. Khanna came in and informed him that Ms. Jadhav would like to talk to him. "Hm, send her in," hearing his boss, Mr. Khanna left from there. Few seconds later, hearing the footsteps coming toward him, Raghav clenched his fist. Ragahv was still standing facing his back holding a file in his hand. "Sir, I just came here to say thank you," hearing the very familiar voice, his fist slowly loosened. "Can you hear me?" "Please try to open the door of your car." "Your car may explode anytime." These words were still ringing into his ears. He still could remember that voice. He heard Kalpana continuing, "Because of you I was able to save my father from going to jail. I am really grateful to you." Raghav turned back to see Kalpana but before he could see her, Kalpana left from there. No, you won't be that girl, Ragahv thought, that girl knows how to save people's lives but you only know to take lives Ms. Jadhav.
Kalpana was sitting in the huge living room alone and was waiting for Mr. Khanna. She was looking at the decoration of the room in awe as she never saw this type of decorations in her entire life. All of a sudden her eyes fell on a dog that was looking at her. Seeing the dog coming toward her, she got off from the couch and started walking backward scared. As she would take two steps back, the dog would take double. While walking backward, Kalpana didn't realize when she reached the indoor pool area. On the other hand, Raghav came to the pool area while talking to a client over the phone and stood near the poolside facing his back. Seeing the dog coming toward her running, Kalpana started running and after sometime she fell down into the pool along with Raghav. Wiping his face, Ragahv looked at Kalpana. Both Ragahv and Kalpana were looking at each other standing few feet's away. Kalpana with apologetic face and Ragahv raging in anger. Though Kalpana couldn't see Ragahv's face when she went to his room to talk to him but seeing him with the same attire in the pool, she got to know that he was the boss. Few seconds later, "Vo, ac...actually, a dog was af...after me and ...and I didn't realize you were here. I am..I am sor ..." Kalpana couldn't complete her sentence as Ragahv stopped her showing his palm and then got out from the pool. "Sir, your towel," Mr. Khanna said handing over a towel. Taking the towel in his hand, Ragahv stormed out from there. Kalpana was still in the pool. Looking at her, Mr. Khanna said, "Ms. Jadhav, what did you do? You made our boss angry."
