Chapter 7

Both Raghav and Kalpana entered into the party hall. The whole hall was covered with people. Seeing Raghav's friend Aman with his would be wife Rima, Raghav walked toward them with Kalpana and congratulated them handing over the flower boutique. "Thank you Raghav, I am glad that you came." Aman said with smile. He then introduced Raghav to Rima. Raghav looked beside him to introduce them with Kalpana but she was not there. Then he looked back and saw Kalpana was standing behind him. She was hesitating to come in front of the people. She looked here and there and saw all the beautiful ladies who were wearing designer dresses with highly put makeup and compared to them she felt like she didn't match with the group. She agreed to come to this party because she didn't want Raghav to lose his friends because of her. She was already feeling guilty because he was away from his parents. Raghav then dragged her by her arm to make her stand beside. He introduced them with Kalpana as his wife. Rima looked at Kalpana and said, "Raghav, your wife looks so beautiful." Hearing her, a small smile appeared on Kalpana's face. Raghav was staring at Kalpana as he was seeing her smiling after a long time. Seeing her smiling a small smile appeared on his face as well as thinking, Kalpana, I was dying to see this smile on your face. I would do anything to keep this smile on your face. He then said still looking at her, "Yes she is."

People were enjoying the party as some of them were dancing on the floor and some were talking in few groups and some were drinking. Raghav met few of his friends. He was very happy meeting his friends after a long time. Seeing Kalpana with Raghav some people were staring at her with the look of disgust. One of his friends Maya walked toward him and said hugging him tightly, "Hey, glad to see you after a long time," she continued, "I missed you so much." "I missed you too." Raghav said breaking the hug. Maya didn't think Kalpana was with him as she didn't know anything about his marriage with Kalpana. Kalpana was standing silent staring at them. Maya continued, "So, where is Samira? When are you getting married?" Hearing her Kalpana lowered her eyes. On the other hand Rangav didn't want to bring up this topic and said quickly, "Maya, meet my wife Kalpana." Hearing him she was shocked. "Namastey." Kalpana said putting her palms together smiling. Maya was staring at Kalpana for a while thinking something then she said hi to Kalpana with smile. Maya then held Raghav's hand and said dragging him, "Come, let's dance." "No, I am fine here," Raghav said looking at Kalpana. Maya continued, "Are you the same Raghav who used to do party whole night? And party without dance?" "Never." Hearing her Kalpana lowered her eyes. Maya dragged him to the dance floor though he was insisting. While Raghav was pulling he looked at Kalpana who gave him a assurance look with smile. Both Raghav and Maya were dancing formally without holding each other. While dancing his eyes was stuck on Kalpana. Maya noticed this and said, "Raghav, you have changed a lot." Hearing her he looked at Maya and said with smile, "People change the way time changes." She continued, "I thought you and Samira will get married as you both were in relationship and used to love each other." "Wrong," Raghav said, "I thought we used to love each other but this was not actually love," "Just attraction." He then looked at Kalpana and said with a smile, "The real love is jo Kalpana kartihey mujhey." "And you?" Maya said. Hearing her Raghav smiled and looked back at Kalpana again. Seeing him staring at Kalpana, Maya said in her mind, I know you also love her but can't realize it. Raghav said still staring at Kalpana, "Maya, you said I changed a lot, yes, it is because of her. When I tried to understand her I felt like I was nothing compared to her. When she entered into my life I started to differentiate things. I was even against my parents when I heard about their wrong doing and I left them." Hearing him she was shocked and asked, "So that means you are not staying with your parents," "Raghav you are the only son of your parents. They need you." Raghav then answered, "My Mom and Dad already have each other but Kalpana has no one except me." "She needs me more than my parents." Saying this he excused himself and left from the dance floor.

Aman and Rima exchanged rings and then cut the cake and after that everyone was called for dinner. Raghav then brought two plates of food for himself and Kalpana and they ate on a separate table. While eating Raghav noticed that a grain of rice was stuck to the corner of Kalpana's lip. Hearing her name called by him she looked up. Raghav tried explaining that to her but she wouldn't trace the place. Raghav then raised his hand and used his thumb to wipe it out. While wiping Raghav looked at her eyes and was totally lost with her beauty. Kalpana also looked into his dark brown eyes directly for the first time so close and both shared an intense eye lock. Their trance broke when Maya started coming their way fake coughing. "Sorry to bother you guys at this moment," Maya said teasing, "But may I join you guys," "Sure," Raghav said smiling glancing back at Kalpana who just lowered her eyes shyly. After Raghav finished dinner he excused himself to go to the washroom. After he left, Maya said to Kalpana with a assurant look, "Kalpana, keep my friend Raghav happy," she added, "He left everyone for you." Hearing her Kalpana looked up and felt something in her heart. After Maya finished dinner she also excused herself saying, "Kalpana, I have to leave the party now as my fianc's parents are coming to India so I have to pick them up from the airport," She added, "Anyway, it was nice meeting you." Saying so Maya left the party.

After dinner all the couples were called on to the dance floor. Raghav was hesitating to ask Kalpana for a dance because he knew that she will not agree. Seeing them standing alone Aman walked toward them and asked, "Why don't you guy's join us on the dance floor?" Hearing him Raghav looked at Kalpana who just lowered her head and started fiddling with her fingers. Seeing her not interested Raghav said with smile, "It's ok, we are fine." Aman left from there. Raghav then told Kalpana, "Kalpana if you are not comfortable then we can leave the party." Hearing him Kalpana looked up and said with smile, "No, I am fine." A pair of eyes was staring at Kalpana lustfully from far.

After a while Raghav got a phone call from an unknown number. He received the call but couldn't hear anything as the sound of the music was too loud. He then went outside to attend the call but before he left he told Kalpana to stay on the same place. All of a sudden a waiter bumped into Kalpana while he was passing by that caused a drink to spill on her dress. "Oh, I am sorry mam." The waiter said. "It's ok, you didn't do it on purpose." Kalpana said wiping her dress. "Mam, there is a washroom, you can clean your dress." Saying so the waiter left from there. She then looked here and there if she could see Raghav but he was not around. She then said in her mind, he might be outside busy with that phone call. Let me go and clean my dress before he comes. She then went to the washroom the waiter was showing her.

Kalpana was cleaning her dress. All of a sudden she heard the sound of the door locked. She looked up and saw the reflection of the person who was staring at her lustfully earlier through the mirror. Seeing the person she was shocked and scared at the same time. "Why did you lock the door?" Kalpana said scared while stepping back. "Sweetheart, why are you scaring of me?" Rocky said smiling evilly and walking toward her. He continued, "Leave Raghav and come to me. I will give you everything that Raghav is unable to give you, love, money, car, mansion everything." Hearing him Kalpana slapped him hard on his cheek. He looked at her angrily then held her arm tightly and said, "What was wrong about what I said, haa?" She looked at him disgusted. He continued, "If you sleep with random guys for money than what is the problem to sleep with me?" She again slapped him on his other cheek and pushed him with force and tried to run to the door but she was pulled by her hair and slapped her hard causing her lip to bleed. He said angrily, "How dare you slap me?" Rocky then looked at her lustfully and smirked saying, "No one can save you from me today." Saying so he started going toward her. Seeing his lustful eyes on her she was scared. "Please don't come close to me." Kalpana was pleading while stepping back. He caught her hand tightly and pulled her toward him. Kalpana tried to free herself from his grip but he was too strong. Holding her with determination that no matter how hard she tried, she can't move unless he wants. His grip on her wrists became so tight that it started hurting her. He then made her lie forcefully on the ground and he came on top of her and started forcing himself on her.

On the other hand Raghav ended the call and came back to the place where he left Kalpana but she was not there. "Where did she go?" Raghav said in his mind. He then searched her everywhere, outside, second floor but she was not seen anywhere. Now he became tensed. "Did she leave the party?" Raghav said, "But how I will be able to confirm this as she didn't have any phone or Rao family is out of the city since last week." "Ok, let me go home and check." Saying so Raghav was about to leave the party but stopped thinking, let me check here once more then I will leave. He then again started searching for her everywhere he checked before. He asked few people in the party about her but no one could give him any information. He was coming down from the second floor using the stair but stopped hearing some sound coming from far. He tried to figure out where it was coming from. He then realized it was from the washroom. He went near the washroom door tried to hear what was actually going on here. He heard some familiar voice pleading, "Please leave me... don't touch me." Hearing this, the only word came out from his mouth, "Kalpana!" He then tried to open the door but it was locked from inside. He kept pushing with all his strength and after few attempt he was finally able to open the door. After opening the door he was shocked what he just saw. Seeing Rocky on Kalpana forcing himself on her Raghav's blood boiled. He pulled Rocky up by his collar from his back and threw him onto the wall. He then made Kalpana stand on her feet and looked at her scary and teary face. Her dress was torn and her face and some part of her body were marked by him. Seeing her in that state, he almost had tears. He never had this type of feelings for anyone in his life, but today his heart skipped. He took off his coat and made her wear it to cover her bare arms and body. He then looked back at Rocky with bloody eyes tightening his fist and shouted, "bas***d, how dare you to touch Kalpana haa." He then started punching Rocky nonstop until he was covered with blood. All this time Kalpana was standing at the corner of the washroom scared. Hearing the noise all the people ran near the washroom and was shocked seeing the situation. "Have you gone mad Raghav?" Rocky shouted back, "Because of this girl you raised your hand on your friend?" Hearing him Raghav got angry and said punching him again, "Do you know who she is to me?" Rocky shouted pushing Raghav back, "I know who she is." Rocky continued, "She is nothing but a prostitute." Hearing him Raghav tightened his fist again and held Rocky's neck and said, "Not a single word against her," "I will kill you bas***d." Saying so Raghav was about to press his hand around his neck hard to kill him but he was pulled by few of his friends including Aman. "Leave me, I will kill this bas***d." Raghav said while trying to release himself from their grip. Rocky stood up wiping his blood from his face and shouted, "What's wrong I did with her haa?" he continued, "I was doing the same thing you been doing with her. She slept with you for money then why can't she sleep with me? I was just telling her to leave you and start living with me. Most of us here in the party already knew that your dad threw you out because he didn't want his son stay with any prostitute. He wanted us all not to support you because he wants you to leave this prostitute and go back to your parents." All this time Raghav's blood was boiling inside thinking, how dare dad used this type of word against Kalpana. Let me fix this Rocky first then I will face that man who claims me as his son. Saying so Raghav released his hand with a force from his friends grip and walked toward Rocky and pulled him by his long hair and kept pushing him against the mirror until he got unconscious and kept saying, "I will not leave anyone who will harm my wife." Hearing wife from him, most of his friends was shocked. Seeing Rocky's bloody body lying on the ground, someone already called police.

Seeing police Kalpana's heart skipped. Police put hand cuffs in Raghav's hands. "Let's go to the police station." Police said dragging him outside. Kalpana was still in trauma. She was just standing there like a lifeless body and couldn't utter a word. No one in the whole party supported Raghav. When Raghav was dragged by police he was not worried about himself but Kalpana. He looked back at Kalpana and was about to say leave this place and go home but couldn't as he was pushed to the car. Kalpana's trance broke with the sound of the polices car starting. Kalpana ran outside and saw the car was already gone. "Why did they arrest him?" Kalpana said crying, "He just came to save me." Aman felt bad and said, "Don't worry Kalpana, we will go to the police station and release Raghav as it was not his fault." Hearing him she got some hope for a while but it broke when she heard Aman's dad saying angrily, "Have you gone mad Aman?" he added, "Rocky's father is my friend and business partner," "You can't go against him." Hearing him Aman said, "Dad, It was all Rocky's fault," he added, "He forced himself on Raghav's wife." Hearing him Aman's dad said angrily again, "You are not going anywhere and that's my final decision." "How could you say that uncle?" Kalpana said with teary eyes. Aman's dad didn't reply her and left from there. Kalpana was all broken as she didn't know what she will do now. She then asked Aman which police station he was taken.

Kalpana took a rickshaw and reached the police station. She was pleading to meet Raghav but there was a strict order that no one will be allowed to meet Raghav. Kalpana was sitting on a bench waiting with the hope of meeting him. On the other hand Raghav was worried and pacing back and forth in the lock up thinking about Kalpana, hope she is fine. At this time I should be with her but I can't. He then made a fists with his hand and punched the wall frustrated.

On the other hand Raghavs parents heard the news and his dad thought smiling evily, "Now lets see who he comes running to."

It was 3 AM. Seeing Kalpana sobbing for a long time an old havildar felt bad for her. He walked toward her and said, "Beti, intejar karney se koe faida nahi, ghar jao." He added, "You guys did very wrong to go against these types of people." Hearing him Kalpana said, "Kaka, who would be able to see his wife or daughter being raped by someone?" Havildar continued, "I can understand but these people are very powerful. I don't know what type of game they will play with your husband. They might turn this attempt to murder case into murder case." Hearing him she was shocked and tensed at the same time mumbling, "Murder case!" Her trance broke when she heard some noise coming from the lockup seeming like someone was beaten. Hearing the sound only one word came out from her mouth, "Chotey Saab." She then looked at the Havildar and asked tensed, "Kaka, what is happening there?" "I don't know why but it seemed to me that they are beating him." Saying so she started crying again. She then pleaded the Havildar to meet Raghav. "You stay here, let me go and see." Saying so Havildar left from there. After few minutes he came back. Seeing him quiet Kalpana understood what actually happened. "I know what I need to do now to release him." She mumbled, "I will go to his parents. I know they will put a condition for that, and I am all ready to accept it." Saying so she was about to leave but stopped hearing the Havildar saying, "There is a way." He continued, "I heard Rocky's mom is a nice lady and if you can explain to her the situation and convince her." Kalpana thought of trying once before going to meet Raghav's parents. She took the address and reached Rocky's house.

It was early in the morning. Kalpana was waiting for Rocky's mom in the living area. His mom came down and got angry seeing his son's attempt to murderer's wife in front of her. "How dare you enter into this mansion?" His mom said shouting, "Do you know what your husband did with my son? He is lying lifeless in the hospital bed!" Hearing her Kalpana said, I can understand what you are feeling seeing your son like this," Kalpana continued, "My husband felt the same when he saw me when your son was forcing himself on me," Saying so she took off her coat and said showing her the evidence, "Look what your son did with me," Seeing her in that state inside she felt bad and thought in her mind, I know Rocky's character is not that great but I never realized he will go this far. And even though he did all this I still have to support him. "Look Kalpana," She said, "I still cannot do anything," Kalpana wiped her tears and headed for the door when with the corner of her eye she saw something rolling down the stairs. She quickly turned around and pushed Rockys mom aside and ran to the stairs. She was shocked seeing Kalpana's behavior and then looked back and saw what was really going on. She ran to Kalpana who was holding a wheelchair with her 12 year old special child sitting in it. Rockey's mom put her hand on Kalpana's shoulder and said, "Thank you so much beta for saving my daughter." "You don't have to thank me," Kalpana said smiling, "It was not me but HIM," Kalpana said pointing to the sky saying, "God would not let anything happen with your daughter that's why he sent me here." Kalpana's words pinched Rocky's mom's heart. Kalpana walked slowly to the door and stopped when she heard Rocky's mom saying, "Wait." She then came near Kalpana and said with assurance, "I will try my best to help you."

Kalpana needed to deposit thirty five thousands rupees for Raghav's bail. She didn't have that much money that's why she decided to sell her gold bangles. It was not only bangles for her but her mother's ashirwad. She went to the nearest jewelry shop and sold it.

Raghav got bailed next day. Raghav was still unaware and surprised at the same time about his bail. He took his wallet and phone back and was about to leave the police station but stopped when he heard the same old havilder saying, "Are you leaving alone?" Raghav looked back at the havildar. Havildar continued, "Don't you want to take your wife with you?" Hearing him Raghav was confused and asked, "My wife?" Havildar walked toward him and said pointing to Kalpana behind, "Yes, your wife." Raghav looked at the direction where the havildar pointed. Raghav was totally shocked seeing Kalpana with the same dress sitting on a bench resting her head on her knees. "She is here since two days without food and water." Havildar said, "She said she will not leave this place without you." Raghav looked back at the havildar. "Yes, havildar continued, "You are here because of her. She convinced Rocky's mom to withdraw this case. Not only that, she also arranged thirty five thousand rupees for your bail." Havildar put his hand on Raghav's shoulder and said with smile, "Young man, you are very lucky to have her in your life." Raghav was just listening to him quietly. He then walked toward Kalpana and put his hand on her head and called her by her name softly, "Kalpana." Hearing him she looked up and got off from the bench. Seeing her puffy face his heart skipped. Both Kalpana and Raghav were looking at each other with the mixture of emotion, love, care. Both of them wanted to hug each other. They wanted to take each other in each other's arms. They were standing there for a long time.

After they reached home Raghav told Kalpana with concern, "Kalpana, you were very new in Mumbai. You shouldn't have taken this step. People from here are far far different than the people in village. Anything could happen with you." Hearing him Kalpana looked at him and replied with a smile softly, "Nothing happened with me na." He continued, "I heard you arranged money for my bail," he added, "Where did you get this money?" Hearing him Kalpana didn't response and decided to avoid the question. She entered into the washroom. He thought something and said, "I hope you didn't sell any of your precious things." He then opened her bag and saw a receipt from the jewelry store. He took the receipt out and was shocked seeing her selling a pair of bangles. He then kept it inside his pocket and left the house.

Raghav entered into the jewelry store and showed the receipt to the salesman and said, "My wife sold them yesterday and I want them back. He deposited ten thousand rupees and said, "You keep them until I pay you the rest." "Sir you have to pay more otherwise we will sell it." The salesman said. Raghav didn't have that much money that's why he decided to sell his wrist watch.

Raghav came home and saw Kalpana was cooking something for dinner. After freshen up both of them had dinner. In the dining table no one uttered a word. They were just eating silently and thinking. Raghav was little upset as why she sold her bangles. On the other hand, Kalpana didn't want him to bring this bangle topic up again. After dinner Kalpana went to kitchen and washed all the dishes. She then entered into the bedroom and was shocked and her heart skipped at the same time seeing Raghav's back with bruises. Raghav was sitting shirtless with his back facing Kalpana on the bed and was trying to apply the cream on the affected area. She walked slowly toward him and took the cream from his hand and said, "Lie down, let me apply." Without saying anything, Raghav lied back with his back facing Kalpana. Kalpana sat beside him and started applying cream with her fingers. While applying cream on the affected area, it was burning so Raghav was cringing. Kalpana couldn't resist her tears seeing him in that state. Feeling her tears on his back Raghav couldn't dare to look back as he couldn't see any more tears in her eyes. "Go back to your family." Kalpana said while sobbing. Hearing her Raghav replied, "That's where I am." Kalpana was not pleased with his answer and said, "You know very well that who I am talking about." Raghav replied back quickly saying, "You also know very well that who I am talking about." He added, "Kalpana you are the only family I have. And don't ever mention my parents." Kalpana became silent for a while then said, "Why did you have to do this with Rocky? They are very powerful and you might be the criminal of murder case." She continued, "Why did you put your life in danger?" Hearing him Raghav said, "Kalpana, Don't say it. This is not the first time. He misbehaved with you before as well. And I am dying each and every second in guilt of not saving you at that time." "Kalpana I would rather be hanged than not saving you."

Kalpana was fanning the affected areas so that Raghav could feel better and could fall asleep. Kalpana was feeling so weak and sleepy so she fell asleep beside Raghav. In midnight Raghav woke up feeling pain. When he opened his eyes he saw Kalpana was beside him. Seeing her sleeping peacefully a small smile appeared on his face. He forgot he had pain. He noticed some hair was distracting her sleep. He then took those strands and put them behind her ear. He then caressed her cheek with his fingers. All of a sudden his fingers stopped at the corner of her lip. His smile disappeared when his eyes fell on where there was a big cut. His fingers followed down her neck tracing marks left by Rocky. Seeing those bruises he felt pain in his heart causing a tear to escape. Feeling someone's touch Kalpana was getting flashes of Rocky and started mumbling still closing her eyes, "D-d-don't t-touch m-m-me. Don't c-come c-c-close to m-m-me." Hearing her mumbling Raghav said cupping her face, "shhh" "Its me." Hearing the familiar voice, she cuddled into his arms still closing her eyes. Raghav brought her more into him and held her tight by her waist and his other hand was caressing her hair. Then they fell asleep in each other's arms peacefully.
