I think the biggest mistake from the CV/channel's side was that the publicity was downright misleading which was really unfair on viewers who were expecting a wedding. However, story wise, I think this is a really interesting turn.
As much as I loved the Raghav and Kalpana romance, which was very sensitively but also sensibly depicted, I have missed the larger story very, very much since the romance became the central concern of the plot. That larger story to me was the USP of the show and the reason I started watching in the first place. All the social history surrounding the main plot, Vitthal's involvement in the worker's union, the need for Kamla to work to support the family, the Kapoor's many skeleton's in the closet and how all of this played into their respective family dynamics. They had so much rich material in the story that I was frustrated at the use of the stupid identity confusion between Raghav/Sammy which was an unnecessary gimmick in an otherwise pretty profound story.
But most of all I missed the independent Kalpi, the Angry Young Woman as I read of her being called on this forum once! She was such a strong character post-leap that I remember thinking to myself, I don't even care if she gets the guy or not, I just want to see her chase her dreams, do great things professionally and generally kick a$$! And now when this great twist has happened, despite the pain I feel for Raghav and Kalpana, I am very excited to see what is next for Kalpi because this is only going to make her stronger! Not to forget that Raghav gave her the ticket to her future by clearing the mess around her results... being a topper, she can get a great job anywhere now and has to be dependent on nobody!
What's more, she now has her Ai on her side. Kamla has finally understood that Kalpi has already become the strong woman she wanted to make her; she doesn't have to be so strict with her anymore. Pakhi, on the other hand, has become Kamla's worst nightmare, a mere pawn in her parent's dirty games. I think we are going to see a reversal in Kamla's behavior now because while she will have to make Pakhi strong by being a little harsh with her so that she can see reality, she will have to be exceedingly loving and gentle with the heartbroken Kalpi. Kalpi can be strong for the world but will now hopefully have her Ai along with her Baba to know her innermost pain.
And finally to poor Raghav Singhania... yes, "poor" because the guy can't seem to catch a break when it comes to personal happiness! I am 99% sure that the Kapoor's have somehow gotten their hands on Gauri and his decision/majboori to marry Pakhi definitely has something to do with is long-lost mother. Either the Kapoor's simply held her hostage, threatening to do something horrific if he didn't marry Pakhi or they told him something convoluted about why she was with the Jadavs all this time, which made him mad at Kalpi and family as well. He is going to suffer when he figures everything out, and how! Seriously, poor chap! But hopefully Gauri herself will be there to help him straighten things out.
So yeah, the long and short of it is that my heart breaks for Raghav and Kalpi, but I am also interested to see where they take it from here, and more importantly, to follow Kalpi's future. I just hope they don't plunge her into another romance story for a while (definitely not Sammy! Please not Sammy, let them be friends!), and let the relationships play out naturally. I am also excited to see Kamla be a little harsher with a Pakhi who refuses to see reality.
I know I am probably in the minority and I can see that almost everyone is ready to throw up their hands and abandon ship, but I am crossing my fingers that this is the beginning of a whole lot of genuinely good story.
Anyone else sorta, maybe see what I am saying? 😛
