Chapter 7

"Pakhi!"- Raghav exclaimed, his eyes focused on the girl who was walking towards him. She raced across the space between them and threw her arms around his neck. The force of her body knocked him back a few steps before Raghav regained his footing and returned the hug.

The moment felt so private that Kalpana was forced to look away. At that very instance, she felt like she didn't belong there. A third wheel, as many people would call it.

It wasn't until Raghav pretended to clear his throat that made Kalpana turn back around. That's when she actually managed to get a good look at the stranger who had just joined them. Wearing white shorts with a black long sleeved tank and high top black leather Converse sneakers, it was obvious that she wasn't your average next door girl. Her long, silky and wavy hair fell perfectly, making her undeniably attractive.

The stranger turned and smiled politely at Kalpana before turning towards Raghav and saying," Introduce nahi karvaoge?" Raghav smiled loving at her and then turned towards Kalpana with an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, how rude of me. Kalpana, this is Pakhi, my girlfriend."- Raghav replied positioning his arms across Pakhi's shoulders.

Kalpana's eyes hardened as she fixed her gaze on Pakhi as jealousy crept over her features. She quickly composed herself and gave Pakhi a warm smile.

Before Kalpana could introduce herself, Raghav continued, saying," And Pakhi, this is Kalpana, my neighbour. She has just recently moved into the building and I was just showing her around." The words were out of Raghav's mouth before he could stop himself.

Kalpana looked at Raghav with utter disbelief. The hurt on her face was beyond obvious. "Yes neighbours! That's what we are. How dumb of me to think that we were friends, at the very least."- Kalpana thought bitterly.

"Nice to meet you Pakhi!"- Kalpana said with a force smile. "I think I'll make a move now, I'm sure the two of you have a lot to catch up on!"- she continued half-heartedly.

"Oh don't worry about it. I'll drop you home first. I'm sure Pakhi won't mind."- Raghav offered quickly not wanting to leave Kalpana alone in an unknown city. "Of course. Mujhe kya problem ho sakti hai."- Pakhi replied cheerfully. Kalpana simply nodded her head in agreement before getting into the back of the car, making way for Pakhi to sit in front beside Raghav.

The silence in the car was becoming unbearable for Kalpana until Pakhi decided to switch on the radio. Kalpana couldn't have been more grateful as the melodious voice of Arijit Singh captivated her attention.

Khuda ne iss jahaan mein sabhi ke liye

Kisi na kisi ko hai banaya har kisi ke liye

Both Raghav and Kalpana were deep in thought thinking about the time they had spent with one another throughout the day. "It had been such a memorable day. But why did it have to end like this?"- Kalpana thought dejectedly.

Raghav glanced back at Kalpana through the rear view mirror. He noticed her moist eyes and he knew he was to blame. Why did he not think twice before speaking? Although he hadn't done it intentionally, it bothered him knowing he was responsible for bringing tears in her eyes. The entire day had been perfect. Why did he have to ruin it? All he wanted to do at that very moment was wipe away her tears, hold her. Tell her how sorry he was. Tell her that they were more than neighbours. That he cared about her...

Tu humsafar hai, phir kya fikar hai
Jeene ki wajah hi yehi marna issi ke liye

The minute they reached below the building, with a quick smile at Pakhi, Kalpana jumped out of the car. "Kalpi!"- Raghav called as he got out of the car hoping to apologise to Kalpana before she left. As though reading his mind, Kalpana retorted saying," Don't bother. If it had made any difference to you, you wouldn't have said anything at all in the first place! And here I thought we were becoming friends! How silly of me..." "See you around NEIGHBOUR!"- she added sarcastically walking away as tears began rolling down her cheeks.

How was it? 😊 I'm sorry if you found it depressing and I know it lacked romance but I hope you'll bear with me...😳
