I'm back with another SS. Again I don't know what to call it so I may change the title, I don't know what it is with me and stating SS with how. šŸ˜†Thank you to everyone who read the first one and I am glad you had enjoyed it, hopefully you will feel the same about this one. I will start with a smaller part if people like it I will continue. This story stands on its own there is no direct link to the current storyline at all. It does include all main characters, but its main focus is on Jeevika. Do comment and criticise and I'm happy to take suggestions, enough with the ranting ENJOY :D

Part one

It was dark and empty room, cobwebs and dust covered the corners of the walls. Light had not scattered across these floors in what had seemed like a lifetime. Unknown to the world, there was someone here, someone who was trying to hide from the outside world. As they sat, they were reminded of all their past moments, the moments of joy and sadness. However, it was the sadness that had engulfed their life, the pain inside them had taken upon a new life, which until now was unknown to all, even their spouse.

"Jeevika! Jeevika!" The shouting from outside the room suddenly woke Jeevika out of her trance. She slowly picked herself up, hiding something away. She wiped away the tears that had unknowingly fallen and headed in the darkness towards the door. As she opened the door, she made herself look presentable to those on the other side. As she left the room, it was as if she heading into other world, where she was another person.

She wondered into passage, where she ran into her husband. Viren was running trying to organise arrangements for a gathering, which was taking place in their home. He instructed Jeevika to get ready quickly; as the guests would be arriving shortly. Everyone was so busy with their lives and duties, that no one ever noticed the sadness behind Jeevika's words or the loneliness in her eyes.

She had always done everything right, she followed the rules, she did what was expected by her, and had begun teaching in a local school. She tried to immerse herself in her work, so that no one would see what she was hiding.

The party was a huge success, the guests enjoyed themselves, the food was splendid, and the atmosphere was radiant. Jeevika chatted away with her guests indulging them with tales from her classroom. When the night ended, both Viren and Jeevika retired to their room.

"That was good night, wasn't it Jeevika? I haven't seen Laksh in years. Did you know we went to law school together in London, he..." As Viren turned, he noticed that his wife was not behind him. He wondered where she has gone. Viren was slowing noticing a gradually change in Jeevika's behaviour. When she was with others, everything was fine but behind closed doors, she seemed quieter, she hardly confined or shared anything with him anymore. He wanted to question her on many occasions but never plucked up courage

Weeks past and Jeevika and Viren were hardly on speaking terms, within the confinement of their bedroom. They silently changed and went to bed, even with this growing distance, Viren still could not question the situation.

One night, Viren woke up wanting something to drink. As he looked over at the side table, he picked up the jug only to find it empty. Turning over to Jeevika, he saw that she was not in bed. Quickly he went out to search for his wife. He searched all around but he couldn't seem to find her. Suddenly he heard the smoke alarm and ran towards the kitchen. There he saw his wife standing over the stove, whist the saucepan had caught on fire. The flames were blazing, yet Jeevika stood there, she seemed to be million miles away, completely unaware of her surroundings. She didn't seem to feel
the heat of the flames, nor did she hear the smoke alarm, or Viren's shouting.

Quickly Viren grabbed Jeevika away from the fire with enough force that he could have dislocated her shoulder. He tried to put out the fire before he rushed to Jeevika's side.

"Jeevika, what the hell happened?!"

"I've got to call Maanvi,"she rushed away. Viren was left stunned, not knowing what had happened. Jeevika had not seen or spoken to Maanvi for over a year nor did she ever mention her anymore. After the death of Badi Beeji, Maanvi and Jeevika had become estranged. Both were stubborn and could not face each other or admit to their own shortcomings. Maanvi lived in Rishikesh in their home, whist Jeevika lived in Chandighar with Viren, as they had also separated from the Vadheras.</font>

Flashback- The Vadhera house one year ago.

All family members were gathered in the living room. They all stood there scared and worried about what was about to happen. They all knew it would not end well, but no one had ever imagined the outcome of this dispute.

"No Viren! This cannot happen. Today's your wife has crossed all limits. What did you think, we would praise you and Jeevika for your actions?! What does she think of herself! She..."

Swamini voiced raised louder than it had ever been before. The echoes of her voice could her heard across the Vadhera mansion. Her anger was such that no one could tame her. Her trusted nephew was no longer at her. He had formed a mind of his own, which did not only consider the wishes of Badi Ma. Before Swamini could even finish Viren had heard enough.

"Enough! If you think I will stand here whist you degrade my wife, in my presence., then you are mistaken. I respect you and you are older than me, but to insult my wife in front it me, I will not accept. I admit..."

"Wow? This is all that we had to see. Viren you are raising you voice to me? Your Badi Ma. Today Jeevika has shown her true colours. She has turned our own son against his family, never mind her own faults. Where is she now? We're all here because of her actions and she sits comfortably in her
room. How shameless can one be?"

Viren stormed off in a fit of anger, he could not listen anymore. He headed towards his room, moments later he emerged with Jeevika in one hand and a suitcase in other. He silently left the Vadhera house without a word, in front of his entire family.

Viren was left standing in the kitchen, wondering what had happen. He had never seen anyone stand frozen as if in a trace whist in danger. He stood there in shock, as he did not know what to think. He had known that Jeevika was struggling after losing Badi Beeji, Maanvi and their family but he had thought that everything would work itself out.

Ok guys I'm back with another part but you have to endure my ranting first. Firstly thank you all of taking the time to read the story. I know I haven't thanked you all individually but I do appreciate all the comments that you write. I know this is a tad confusing compared to my previous SS; hopefully it will all make sense eventually. If not read the old one: D I know there is a lot of Viren and Jeevika other characters will come into play later, but currently it's a Viren and Jeevika heavy. I don't know if the colours help but I like having different colours for speech and text.

A little recap:

Viren and Jeevika live alone. They have separated from the Vadheras but also hold no relation with Maanvi.

Enjoy the next part. Ps please let me know if the story is making no sense.

Part 3

Jeevika laid in bed wide-awake; she could not help to think about what her life has become. She glances over at her husband who is fast asleep and thinks to herself how lucky she is to have him, but she doesn't know how to let him back in. Most of Jeevika's nights were like this. She would relive the past, the decisions she made and the words she chose to use. From growing up in the streets of Rishikesh, to the luxury of the Vadhera household, to her life today. In each passing phrase, Jeevika had changed. From a young girl, to a bahu, to a working women who was trying to manage her professional and personal life with all its complications.

As she wallowed in self-pity, all she could think about was Maanvi. It had been so long since they had spoken, would she want to talk to her. Jeevika felt that something has happened but every time she dialled the phone, she would disconnect it before the second ring. As she looked at the clock morning had come, Viren's alarm would not go off for another hour. Jeevika decided to wake and get ready for the day ahead.

Days passed and the house began quieter, the only voice that was ever heard was Viren's when she tried talking to Jeevika mainly during dinner. Even though Jeevika did respond, Viren could sense the distance. She spend most of her evenings either working in the study or in the living room. Her world was shrinking, and preferred the lonely silence inside an empty room.

Abruptly plates and cups smashed against the floor, startling Jeevika who was working on the sofa.

"Are you going to sit there and not say a word?!!" Finally, Viren had patience had broken. "You can't just sit there anymore. I can't bear this silence. You need to talk, say something, anything! Just talk!" He walked around, grabbed Jeevika by the arms, and stood her up. "Look at me, I want to help you. I know you are struggling, but I don't know how help, if you do not talk to me!"

The silence broke inside Jeevika.

"What do you want from me?!" Pushing Viren hands off her. "I don't want to talk about it. How does that help? Nothing will change; I will still be in the same place I am in now. So what is the point? I've lost everything, my parents, my family, my sister, MY child. Everyone is gone, they left, and some forever, whist others carry on with their lives, without even looking back. Where am I left, alone by myself."

"By yourself?! I left my family with you. You are my family. Who do I have? What am I to you? Am I nothing? You have a life with me. One we have build together, so how have you lost everything. We lost a child... " Viren spoke without thinking; Jeevika's words struck a chord in him.

*****

Flashback- A few months back

The moment Jeevika found out she was pregnant she couldn't wait to share this news with her husband. She even still had the stick in her hand when she told him. Their excitement had no bounds, it was the happiest day of their life. Viren always wanted to be a father, he had missed out on a father's love as a child, but he wanted to shower his child will all the love a person could offer. This new turn in their life had brought so much happiness and joy. That neither of them could explain that feeling.

A few weeks later:

"Jeevika, Jeevika, where are you? I can't find..." Jeevika walked out of the bathroom with a towel in her hand wiping her face. She looked slightly pale. Viren rushed up to her. "Are you ok? What's wrong? Is every..." She gave out a light chuckle. In a deep breath she spoke. "I thought I was the Fikar Minster? It's just morning sickness... I'm fine" she placed her hand on one side of her stomach, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath. She convinced Viren that she was fine and that this was normal.

A week later, it was a Saturday evening and Jeevika wanted to make Viren a special dinner for winning a big case for his firm. She was preparing dinner in the kitchen when Viren walked in after smelling the aroma. "Wow Mrs. Vadera, something smells nice in here." As she looked up, she gave him a faint smile. Viren turned and opened the fridge. She braced herself with the worktop and took a deep breath.

"Jeevika where is the bread?" Trying to comprehend what Viren asked. "It's ...umm on .the ..top shelf" her vision was starting to blur, and she was feeling light headed, she dropped the spoon in her hand and held onto the counter.

"Jeevika it's not here. I wanted to sort out lunch for tomorrow"

"Virenji ... It's ... It's" Suddenly Jeevika collapsed on the kitchen floor. Viren turned and saw Jeevika lying on the ground unconscious. He ran to her. "Jeevika, Jeevika!!" he tried waking her up, but he couldn't.

"What's her name?" the paramedics asked. Sobbing Viren replied Jeevika. She was in and out of consciousness; she was holding onto her stomach, looking up as Viren, she turned and throws up in the ambulance. Viren informed them that she was 8 weeks pregnant. On the way to the hospital, Jeevika blood pressure was extremely low and her heart rate was increasing rapidly.

She was rushed into the emergency room. The doctors started to work on her, trying to find out why her blood pressure was so low. They took the ultrasound to look at the foetus. Quickly they prepped Jeevika for surgery and rushed out the room.

Outside Viren waited and prayed for his wife. He did not know what suddenly happened to Jeevika. His world seemed to be crashing before his very eyes and he could stop it even if he tried. The doctor hurried into the corridor.

"Mr Vadera?" Viren rushed towards the doctor and began bombarding him with questions.

"Mr. Vadera, understand you have a lot of questions but your wife needs immediate surgery. She has an ectopic pregnancy. This is where the fertilised egg has implanted inside your wife's Fallopian tube. There is a high risk of rupture; we need to take her immediately." Trying to make sense of what the doctor has said, Viren asked about the baby.

"I'm sorry but your child cannot develop outside the uterus. I'm sorry I need to go, if the tube ruptures, it can have severe consequences."

Viren was left standing as his world collapsed. He has not only lost his child but Jeevika's life was also at risk. As he waited outside the operation theatre, he thought about all of his moments with Jeevika. The moments of joy and those fights that every married couple have, but all those little arguments seem so silly in comparison to this moment. Jeevika came out of surgery successfully. There had been complications but she was recovering well.

Viren sat by her bedside, slowly she was coming out of the anaesthesia. She looked up at Viren and gave a light smile. "Virenji..." she found it difficult to talk, Viren sshed her and took her hand. "What happened? How is our baby?" A tear fell from Viren's eyes, how was he going to tell Jeevika the truth. He rubbed her hands and braced himself.

"Jeevika... we lost our baby." those words shook Jeevika world. "You had an ectopic pregnancy, the baby was growing inside your Fallopian tube, and as it grew, it ruptured your tube risking your life. The doctors tried to repair your tube but there was too much damage and you had lost a lot of blood. They had to remove it" Jeevika had not heard anything pasted the first sentence. She sat there silent in shock. Neither did a tear fall, nor did she utter a word. Viren leant in and cried on Jeevika's bed. Slowly she patted him on the back and as she tried to understand what had happened.

*****

Viren was finally able to see into her pain, something which he was unable to do before. That night, things had finally opened up, when morning came; Viren had made an appointment with a therapist for Jeevika to talk to, to overcome her grief. Viren was tidying away when he saw Jeevika's old mobile on the bed. He wondered why it was out, as she has not used it in months. As he when to pick it up, he noticed that it was turned on. He flicked through the iPhone as saw some funny pictures of him and Jeevika, whist they were redoing their home. After a few short taps, Viren ended up in her notes. As soon as he realised what he was reading, he knew he should stop but he couldn't this was the only way to know what Jeevika was actually thinking.

'June 5th

It is said that good things happen to good people. Well if that is true, then why does it seem that it is the bad and evil always seem to win and the good are punished? We are told that there is magic in the world and that God that looks down upon us and steers us to what is good and right. Or is this just something we tell ourselves so we do not feel alone in world. Because in what reality does that happen. No one looks out for you; there is so much suffering for that to be true.

June 6th

It just seems too unreal, the way we live our lives without a care for anyone else. We just believe that everything will be ok; we tell ourselves that it will all work out; somehow, magically, everything will work out. It is said that if at the end something is not fine, then it is not the end. Is that what life is? Struggling to find our happy ending? Are we never content with what we have, that we have to search and dig for more. And when we have got it all, will we continue to dig? Will that void inside ever be filled? The emptiness inside could kill, how do we tame it? How do we not succumb to those voices inside us? I can laugh with everyone from the outside but what happens when you feel nothing. How do you express that in words? How... '

Viren could not read anymore. His wife had been holding so much back from him, that he felt ashamed that he did not realise. He was oblivious to the fact that Jeevika carried this pain with her. He didn't know how he could have been that ignorant to the fact.

A few weeks had past and Jeevika was making little progress, but she was making progress. Viren decided to change their scenery. He wanted to head up to Rishikesh as he knows how peaceful and beautiful Jeevika finds it. However, he did not know of Jeevika would be willing to go.

"Rishikesh? Why Rishikesh?"

Viren was holding his wife's hands.

"Jeevika I know Rishikesh may not be your first choice after everything, but you grew up there, your parents are there. We won't go anywhere you don't want to. It's just somewhere different from here."

After a little conceiving Jeevika agreed to go to Rishikesh. Jeevika had a loving husband who was supporting through her grief, but somehow it wasn't enough.

Ok I'm back with part two. I know I have created some suspense in the story and hopefully at the end it will make sense. I have to change the next part so it might be a longer wait than for the next update compared to this one. Thank you for all your kind words and comments and I hope that you enjoy this part and the rest of the parts as I upload them. If you think it makes no sense at all or is off on a tangent, please let me know so I can refocus the story.

The font kind of messed up but I will sort that out. Sorry if this part is a bit long. If so let me know and I will post up shorter parts. Pms will come to you all but they do take some time so it will not be immediately. Last bit of ranting, please ignore all grammatical errors, I will change them once I notice them. ENJOY :D

Part 2

That night Viren did not sleep, he tossed and turned thinking about what had happened. When morning came, he questioned Jeevika about last night. Coldly she replied, "it was nothing, just a something that needed to be burnt" wanting to discuss the matter further, Viren began to question her. She simply picks up her bags, kissed him on the cheek and told him, she would see him in the evening. Frustrated, he throws his towel and he headed towards the kitchen. There he saw the leftovers of what was burnt. As he looked at the matter, he noticed what seemed to be a photo, but he couldn't tell who the photo was of, as it has been destroyed because of the flames. He could see Jeevika and wondered what she was trying to burn.

****

Flashback

"You are not leaving like this!" Shouted Maanvi, her raised voiced startled the Chaudary family as well as Virat and Viren, who were all gathered in their house in Rishikesh, a week after Badi Beeji funeral.

"After everything that has happened, you turn your back on your family! The family that has been with your since the start. For who? Those people, people who think that they are above us. They have class and a reputation and we are simply dirt on the ground." Maanvi was fuming, she had never been this angry with anyone before and especially her own sister.

Viren was about step forward, suddenly Jeevika put her hand in front him, "Enough Maanvi" Jeevika bellowed.

"Enough! Don't think because I am quiet, I will stand here and listen to your nonsense. If that's what you think of me, then so be it. I don't have to defend myself to you anymore! If you don't want to listen and want to hold onto your anger, good for you. Just remember today's date, today was the day you broke the khoon ka rishta between us," she grabbed her suitcase that was sitting by the door in one hand and took Viren by the hand as they left Rishikesh and never returned.

From that date 13 months had past. Jeevika had not mentioned that day again. It was as if it simply been erased from their history. The last year had been the most difficult in their marriage, separating from the Vadera's- personally and professionally, breaking ties with Maanvi, and Jeevika returning to work. All of these problems caused a strain on their marriage. However, life was not always like this...

Flashback - weeks after Viren and Jeevika moved out

The house was unusually quiet. Viren, who had just returned from work, looked around for his beautiful wife. The telly was off, there was no music playing, nor was there the smell of fresh food being cooked. It was too late for Jeevika to be at school, Viren thought, and couldn't help to wonder where Jeevika was. After searching the house and being unable find her, he decided to take a shower and change out of his work clothes into something a little more comfortable.

Leaving the bathroom with water dripping from his hair and a towel in his hand, Viren looked around for his wife.
"Where is she? She's normally here, when I get back from work?" he muttered to himself confused, he picked up his phone, which was laying on the side table, unsure whether to call her and find out where she had got to.

Suddenly Jeevika enters the room like a whirlwind; she didn't even notice Viren standing by the bathroom door. Oblivious to her mood Viren decided to flirt with his wife. He slowly walks up to her grabs her from the behind. Putting his hands around her waist and placing his head on her shoulder. He felt a sense of relief, the tiredness and frustration of the day vanished as soon as he embraced his wife.

That feeling unfortunately only lasted a moment. Suddenly, without any notice, Jeevika pushed Viren's hands off her waist and turned around. He had never seen her so angry and upset before.

Viren placed his hands on her face "What happened?" Viren asked worryingly. Again, she simply pushed his hands away.
"Virenji I'm not in the mood, I don't want to talk about it, just leave me alone!" Shocked by Jeevika raised voice, Viren stood there dazed. She walked across the room. Viren followed her; he was not going to his this go. They had fought before but this seemed different. He was always aware of the reason, often it was the usual husband wife disputes over petty things, but in this instance, something was severely wrong.

"Jeevika what's wrong, what happened? Has someone said something? Tell me! I can't see you like this" Viren was extremely concerned, he just wanted to comfort his wife but he was keeping a distance because he was afraid of being pushed away again.

Jeevika simply stood there silently, the anger was bubbling inside of her, yet she stood there quiet and tried to compose herself before she exploded. She grabbed Viren's clothes, which were lying on the floor and chucked them into the basket by the door. Walking back round trying to avoid Viren glares, she moved her files and tossed them into her bag. Irritated by the whole situation Viren marches up to Jeevika, grabs her by the arm and holds tightly.
"Damm it Jeevika, would you talk to me!" Struggling to break free from Viren's clutches, Jeevika tried to loosen Viren's grip on her but in vain, she couldn't because of his strength. Finally noticing his wife's apprehensiveness Viren let her go.
"Fine! You don't want to say anything, have it your way!"
Viren slams the door and leaves before saying something he knew he would later regret.

Frustrated with herself, Jeevika follows Viren into the garden where she found him pacing up and down in an aim to calm himself down, he was muttering away as he did not understand what just happened and why Jeevika was in such a foul mood.

Viren looks up and notices Jeevika standing by the patio door. Not wanting to argue he simply ignores her and sits on the deck.
"So you don't want to talk then?" Jeevika said curtly.
"Just ignore everything, pretend that everything is fine, great, that what you do best, right?" she vents with anger and a hint of sarcasm.
Infuriated with the accusation, Viren stands up abruptly, taking Jeevika aback.
"Ignore everything? Me? You're the one who is ignoring your feelings. Something has pissed you off, yet you won't acknowledge it and tell me. And I'm the one who is ignoring things. Wow, that's great to know." After venting out his anger, Viren apologises and calmly asks Jeevika again what has happened, was it something at work or anything else.
With her head bowed and unable to look Viren in the eye, Jeevika softly announces that she went to Vadhera house earlier in the day.

Taken aback by her statement, Viren stepped towards his wife. Neither of them had returned to Vadhera house since they left the house a few weeks previously.
Confused and stuttering. "You.. went to.. Why? .. There of all.. pl... What? I don't understand?"
"Chacha called"
Jeevika said softly, still glancing down
"Chacha? Why?" Viren was still as confused as ever.
"He wanted to talk about everything, I wanted to meet somewhere else but he wouldn't have it and I ended up there. It was a complete disaster. I never should have gone. I didn't even get passed the entrance. I ..."
"It's ok,"
Viren said calmly, talking his wife by the hand he sat her down on the deck sofa. He sat on the table opposite and held her hands.
"What did they say?"

Still unable to meet her husband's eyes, Jeevika was sobbing whilst recounting the story. "Ask what didn't they say. I know there is bad blood between us, but I didn't expect that much hatred from them. I'm sorry Virenji. I trapped you into marrying me, turned you against your family, made you leave that world, and gave you this. A house which doesn't have the memories you grew up with and..." Viren stopped Jeevika and hugged her immediately, by which time she is unable to speak through her tears.
"You are the love of my life, understand, and none of the rest of it matters. I love you and that's it. Nothing they say will ever change that. I love everything about you. I love you for even having the guts to go through that door." She smiled softly, his heart melted. He stands her up, grabs hold of her waist, and pulls her close, he whispers.
"I love doing this, Mrs Vadhera" he slowly kisses down her neck. "I love having my wife alone all of the time." He grabs her legs, lifts her up, and puts her down slowly onto the table. He slowly pulls away knowing that Jeevika would grabs hold of his collar and pulls him towards her. He lays her down onto the table before removing his shirt. Coming in closer he caresses the side of her face as they both lean in and forget their fight and the rest of the world for that moment.

*****

From that night, many things had changed. Every marriage that its ups and downs but somewhere down the line, something had changed. Viren and Jeevika's fights always brought them together, however recently Jeevika was so distant that coming anywhere close emotionally was impossible. As much as Viren tired he couldn't help and didn't know how.

Final part guys. To all of those who have enjoyed it after month and months. I know I have kept you all waiting with this SS as I could not update regularly due to work and also coming up with ideas. But I would like to thank you all for taking the time to read by crazy story. I don't know if I will write another SS again. (Already written two) but I have an OS most likely on the way sometime soon. May just stick with those for a while.

Hopefully this does not seemed rushed at all, but I didn't want to drag it out. Please forgive all errors. Not enough time for editing. ENJOY.

Virat was alone in his room, looking at baby things on the Internet, when suddenly Jeevika walked in. She is now 35 weeks pregnant. Virat rushed over to her, thinking something might be wrong as Viren was out for the morning.

"Virat, I need a favour,"
"Bhabhi sure, what is it?"
"I wanted to get something for Virenji, can you take me to the shopping centre." He had a sigh of relief.
"Sure Bhabhi, that's actually perfect. I wanted to buy something special for Maanvi as well. It's our anniversary soon plus I saw some cute baby things," Virat started to blushed, Jeevika began teasing him to which he went red in the face.

In the baby shop, Jeevika began looking at some accessories. Virat wondered over to the clothes section, he put down the shopping bags, which he wouldn't let Jeevika carry. He picked up a green baby grow, which had a little Winnie the Pooh on it catching some butterflies. He popped it against himself, and though how could someone be that small and fit into this.

He jumped as he felt a tap on his shoulder, he turned to see Jeevika smiling at him. He picked up the baby grow and his special gift and he and Jeevika headed home.

'So this is what you meant

When you said that you were spent
And now it's time to build from the bottom of the pit
Right to the top
Don't hold back
Packing my bags and giving the academy a rain check'

It's time by the Imagine Dragons, was playing on the radio.
"Bhabhi, have you heard this song. It's beautiful, make you feel like you are alive," Virat turned up the music.
"Virat! Virat!" Virat couldn't hear as he had tuned it up so loud.
"Virat!!!!" She screamed.

Without even realising, their car was turned on side. Another car had run into the back driver side at full speed after it skipped a red light. Jeevika tried calling and tapping tap Virat, to wake up him, but she couldn't reach him as she was stuck.

Virat and Jeevika were rushed into hospital after being recused from the car. Viren and Maanvi reached the hospital just as they arrived, Virat was lower from the ambulance first, he was still unconscious. Maanvi rushed up to him, wanting him to open his eyes and tell her it was just a joke. She couldn't bear to see him like this.

Viren rushed behind as Jeevika was lowered down. She tried asking about Virat and Maanvi, and was trying to explain to Viren what had happened. She had a slight cut on her head from where she hit the dash in the car. Viren tried to calm her down as she was taken to be checked out. Her cut was superficial, but her blood pressure was slightly higher than it should be. The doctors began checking the baby, they asked Jeevika if she had any pain or discomfort anywhere. She mentioned a small amount of pain. The baby seemed fine, however they kept her in, to observe her and the baby for the next few hours.
"Virenji! Virat and Maanvi. Where are they? What happened?! Why am I here, where are they?" Viren looked at the doctor confused. Jeevika tried getting out of bed, he stopped her.

"Virenji, where are Maanvi and Virat. We have to find them." She had began panicking the doctor was trying to reexamine her, slowly her blood pressure was climbing up again. The doctor asked him to step and check on Virat whilst they check Jeevika. This started to calm her down.

As Viren left he didn't know what to think or do. Three lives were in the balance. He saw Maanvi a few feet away outside the room where Virat was. He tapped her, she immediately fell into his arms and starting crying. He held her tight as they tried to comfort each other. He tried to get her to calm her down as she was now 20 weeks pregrant.

Virat was wheeled out of the room. The doctor began speaking to Viren and Maanvi. He told them, that Virat is stable however, there is bleeding in his stomach to which they need to operate. Maanvi went up to him, took his hand and kissed him. She did not want to let go, but had to.

They headed back to Jeevika's room, Maanvi went up to her and sat by her side as Viren spoke to the doctor.
"How is she?"
"She fine, it happens sometimes as she hit her head but we will keep a close eye on it. She has no signs of a concusion. It is most likely temporary, but as I said we will keep a close eye on her and the baby." Viren was slightly confused as he thought the baby was fine. The doctor explained how with accident such as these women can go into labour as their water can break or even their placenta can rupture.

The doctor left Viren, and he joined Maanvi and Jeevika in the room. He took her hand and sat beside her.

"Oh God," Jeevika sat up after a sharp pain.
"What's the matter?" Viren and Maanvi spoke at the same time.
"Can you get a nurse I think I just wet myself," they both sighed, thinking something else had happened. Viren stepped out to get someone. Before the nurse or Viren came back Jeevika felt something was wrong, the monitors she was attached to started to bleep and she began to feel weak. The nurse checked her and called for the doctor. Her water had not broken but her placenta had ruptured causing her to loose a lot of blood, she needed to be rushed for a cesarean immediately. Viren and Maanvi were holding her hand as she was bring wheeled off only to let go at a certain point.

Both Virat and Jeevika were in surgery whilst their partners anxiously waited outside. They could not feel any more helpless. Maanvi did not know what to do. Virat had been her rock for so long, he had always been her side. He was with her through her disease but never thought of him being in trouble.

Viren and Jeevika's child was borm. She had delivered a healthy baby girl and Jeevika was recovering well. Luckily they had been no complications during the abruption and cesarean. The doctors were able to stabilise the bleeding.

Viren entered the room to see his wife asleep on the bed. The nurse had just brought the baby in, she was about to leave with the child, when Viren stopped her. Slowly he picked up his daughter and kissed her on the cheek, he walked up to Jeevika and did the same. He placed her back down, only to continue staring at her. Their child was born, and she was perfect in every sense of the word. He had never felt anything like this before.

A few days after returning home. It was Virat and Maanvi's anniversary. Virat was resting in his room, when Maanvi came in. She had brought in a tray full of food to serve to her husband. He made his favourite food hoping that he would eat something. Slowly she placed the tray on the bedside table as Virat was asleep. As she left, he grabbed her wrist.

"Where are you off to? I thought you were going to serve me my food," he spoke in a cheeky way. Maanvi sat on the bed beside him and picked up the bowl and spoon from the tray and began feeding him.

"I'm sorry, actually I brought you a present but it got it the day if the accident so I don't have it anymore." Maanvi lend in and hugged him, she didn't need a present as she had him. Safe and well, that was all she needed.

"Just wait I have got yours," she braced herself using the bed to stand when Virat grabbed her again.
"I don't need a gift, you have already given me one," he rubs this hand on her belly.

***********************************************
Months had passed and the house was filled with the laughter and cries of children. Jeevika and Viren's daughter was nine months old. Maanvi and Virat's son was seven months.

Both sisters were in the living room, letting their children play with they toys while they tried to relax for a few moments.
"Di!" Maanvi shouted at the top of her lungs, "Look she's standing up for the first time!" At the same moment Maanvi's son sat up by himself without wobbling for the first time as well.

Jeevika ran to go and get the camera from her room as their phones did not have battery. She rushed in and took the camera out of the cupboard. It was under a pile of clothes, ae she pulled it out something else fell. It was her old phone. She picked it up and turned it on. Just to see whether it would.

June 9th

It has been said that we can find beauty all around us. In the flowers, the breeze, in everything God has created. How does that exist? How does one see the beauty in something that is not there. We all try to find little joys of happiness to escape the dark barrel of our lives. But why? We all know life isn't always full of happiness and that these barrels are always here, so why try to escape them? If this is life, then how is changing it possible. We search and search for what? What are we searching for?

As Jeevika closed these notes. She saw how far she had come. She looked around the room as saw pictures of not just herself and Viren, but of Maanvi, Virat and their children. They had become one family. It was more than a house it had become a home, with laughter and cries and mess all over the place.

The woman who wrote these notes was in a very different phase in her life, to the one reading them now. There was a time, when that darkness could have swallowed her whole. Darkness and light are a way of life, it comes and goes. However, it is up to us to embrace one or the other.

Shuffling down through the notes, Jeevika realised that even though all those emotions were valid at the time. They have no place in her life now. She highlighted them all and pressed the delete button. It wasn't that, that part of her life was erased or that she had buried them, but that she had finally moved on from what has, to what is now.

Ok Guys this is going to be a long part, as I don't know when I can update next, I haven't written the next part and school starts up soon. Hopefully it is not too long. Thank you for all your comments and I hope that the story is finally making sense.

Part 5

It had been weeks since they had returned from Rishikesh, Jeevika was gradually returning to her old self. She was smiling and laughing and was not a quiet as she had become. Going to her home in Rishikesh had opened her up and she finally got some closure. Life was going well, Viren's practice was buzzing, and he was attracting bigger clients and getting more intriguing cases. Jeevika's job as a teacher was also well, that's only if you forget the children. Overall, their lives were back on track.

After a huge success in court, Viren rushed home to take Jeevika out for the evening. Jeevika got dressed up and Viren was wearing one of his best suit, they went to one of the finest restaurant for dinner not before heading to the city for a romantic drive.

On the other side in Rishikesh, Maanvi health had taken a turn for the worse. Doctors had advised Virat to take Maanvi to Chandigarh for better facilities, as the their capabilities were falling short. For the last few months, the side effects of her treatment were getting the better of her. Her pain that increased to an extraordinary level. Virat and her family watched as she was slowly disappearing. The girl, who filled the house with her zest, could enter a room without anyone even noticing. Without any questions, Virat took Maanvi to Chandigarh.

One morning on the way to work, Jeevika noticed Virat catching a taxi from opposite her house. She wondered what Virat could be doing there. However, she did not have the time to think about that. There was a big presentation at school this afternoon as she had many things to prepare. An influential person from the community was to honour some of the children. Many preparations need to be carried out even before the event could start.

"No! That doesn't go there. It has to go at the front. They are going to present the awards from here. Don't put those there!" Rushing around like a headless chicken, Jeevika was trying her best to make sure the event went ahead without a hitch.

It was three o'clock, the ceremony was about to start. Suddenly Jeevika remembered she forgot to put the drinks that the guests of honour had requested. Quickly she asked her TA to arrange refreshment.

On the loudspeaker, the head teacher began to speak "Welcome ladies and gentlemen, teachers and children. We are gathered here today to honour some children who have made this school proud. Here to honour these pupils is Ms Swamini and Vanshika Vadhera."

Hearing those two names, Jeevika felt numb. The rest of the head's speech was a blur, Jeevika could not hear anything, she stared at her mother in law and aunt in-law who were praising the efforts of the school and children.

"Would Mrs Jeevika Vadhera, like to bring her student up so that they can receive their award."

As Jeevika stood, Swamini and Vanshika were shocked to see their daughter in law. Professional Jeevika took her students on stage as they received their award from the hands of Vanshisha and Swamini. The children gracefully accepted their awards and the ceremony continued without a hitch. Once the ceremony was over, Swamini and Vanshika wished to speak to Jeevika, after talking to the head. They headed towards Jeevika who was crowded by parents and students. Jeevika noticed her in laws coming towards her, as if a lioness hunting for her prey. She knew should would not get out of this predicament. After all the parents left, Jeevika took Swamini and Vanshika to her classroom, as it was more private than the hall.

Nervously she began cleaning the room as she offered them a seat. She wanted to give her mother in law a hug, but with Swamini inches away she felt uncomfortable. With her back to them, she pretended to sort the papers on her desk.

"I see that you are working as a teacher." Swamini quite observantly pointed out. Jeevika rolled her eyes with Swamini's sarcastic remark.

"You seemed to have a lovely classroom, if you don't mind the inefficient lighting in this room. I guess you finally decided to work and not be a burden on Viren. The poor boy must be working do hard so that you can live the way you want. But that what happens when you separate, you need to fend for yourselves. "

Jeevika wanted to shut her up, but she couldn't bring herself to be rude to Buaji in her school and a place where she has honour. Sly fully Jeevika replied, "the lights fine in here, there is no problem during the day. Were good, honestly. We are able to care for ourselves. We both work hard to provide us with what we need, we don't need any support from anyone. Today seems to be the day of consciences. First I see Virat roaming the streets and then both of you are here,'

"Virat's, in Chandigarh?" Vanshika almost leapt with joy. "Jeevika, you saw Virat? How is he? Did he say why he's here?" Confused by their reaction she began to them for Virat not being in Chandigarh. She hadn't spoken to him but had assumed he was simply out.

"Jeevika you are not that naive that you don't know that Virat lives in Rishikesh with his wife," Swamini casually said.

"Wife, in Rishikesh?!" Jeevika was gobsmacked, her brother in law had married, and she didn't know. Even Viren was unaware otherwise, he would have shared that minor detail with her.

"Yes, Virat married Maanvi against our wishes and lives in Rishikesh with her and her family" Swamini spoke harshly.

Jeevika had not overcome the initial shock of Virat's marriage when she found out he married Maanvi, her very own sister. How was she deluded to the fact? Her baby sister was married and she had no clue. Suddenly things began to make sense, why Virat was in Rishikesh and why he seemed to be an integral part of the family.

"Virat married Maanvi? He lives in Rishikesh? But then why did I see him in Chandigarh his morning?"

Swamini was ready to pounce on her for being completely unaware.

"Look Buaji, I have no intention on arguing with you here about us or Virat or even my marriage for that matter. If you wish to discuss the matter further, then ... "

"Enough Jeevika! Stop pretending. First you turned Viren against us, then Virat ran to your sister. I don't know what spell you have cast on my family. Viren left his family because of your actions. Your poor judgement and inabilities caused us to lose our sons. You..."

"Buaji you can blame me all you like, but your sons have minds of their own. They left of their own accord and no one can force them to do anything. I haven't spoken to Maanvi since that night. A night that you know very well, as well as the reason behind it. If you don't believe me then that is up to you. I'm not going to shower you with apologies that I do not mean because apologising for something that is right is not in my nature. Like I said I'm not discussing this here." as she picked up her bag she came forward to Vanshika "It was nice to see you again Maa" she bowed down and touched her feet. As she shut the door behind her leaving Swamini and Vanshika standing in her classroom.

Viren returned home after a long day at work, Jeevika who was pacing up and down the living room was unaware of this entrance. He was puzzled at seeing Jeevika in a state, muttering away incoherently. He rushed to her, where she narrated him the story. He was shocked to hear about Virat's marriage to Maanvi and even more surprised about his reappearance in Chandighar if his home is now in Rishikesh.

That night Jeevika was unable to sleep. She had a feeling that something was wrong. Something was just not right, she couldn't shift this from her mind. As she laid in her bed, all she could think about was Maanvi. She remembered something that Maanvi had said to her, many years ago:

"Whenever I think you Di, I will always see you in front of me and you will know that I am thinking of you. Even if you are miles away, you will forever live in my heart. Tomorrow if I marry, he will never take your place. And when I think of you, you will know. After all khoon ka rishta hai humare"

Why did Jeevika have the feeling that Maanvi was thinking of her, just as she was thinking of her.

It was Saturday morning and Jeevika was half-asleep whist making breakfast. She burnt the toast and almost spilt the tea. Viren entered the kitchen and handed Jeevika a piece of paper. Wondering what it was she opened up the folded paper and saw an address. "126 Thrust Street, Chandigarh"

A random address on a piece of paper. She asked Viren about the address, she had figured it was his client's address, which he did not know how to get there.

"It's Virat and Maanvi's address in Chandighar. I was able to get someone to find out where they are staying"

Jeevika almost dropped the teacup on the floor. Was she ready to face Maanvi once again? Viren comforted her and explain that they need to go and find out things once and for all.

As they approached the house in which Virat and Maanvi were staying. Jeevika couldn't help to sense that dread once again. Somehow she knew, once she entered that door, she was not going to return with good news. Slowly they walked up to the door and Viren pressed the doorbell. It felt as if it took a century of Virat to open the door. Although he was shocked, he happily welcomed his bhai and Bhabhi into his rental home. Just as Virat stepped out of the living room to get his guests a drink. Maanvi slowly walked into the room. She could barely walk, but struggled through it. Just as she was about to fall Jeevika caught her. Slowly she lifted her up and sat her down. Maanvi was shocked to see her Di but was in awe of her. She was speechless despite all that had happened, Jeevika showed the same affection as she once had.

Suddenly Maanvi felt a sharp pain. The pain was so severe that she couldn't even scream. She clutched her side and felt back into the sofa. Suddenly she let out a loud shriek. Jeevika tried to help, but she did not know what to do. Virat rushed in and picked her up. He tried to get her to swallow her medicines but she was unable to and simply vomited them back up. They rushed out took her to the hospital.

Jeevika did not know how to react. Maanvi was constantly ill, even as a child, she regularly had a fever or would catch a virus. However she had never seen her in such a state before. As she and Viren stood outside her room, they did not know what to think. They had so many questions, to which only Virat and Maanvi had the answers.

Jeevika and Viren wondered towards Maanvi's room. Her door was open and she was talking with Virat.

In a quiet voice, she spoke "Virat, what are Di and Jiju doing here? How did they get here? Do you think they know? Virat..?" She tugged on Virat as she cried thinking that her sister knew the truth that she has been hiding from her.

As Viren and Jeevika stood outside the door, they did not dare to enter. Holding Viren's hand tightly, Jeevika felt numb from inside. She knows Maanvi is keeping something from here, and feared for the worst.

He wiped her tears away. "They just came to your doorstep. I don't know why they are here. They haven't said anything. I don't think they know. But they will want some answers now. Maanvi it is time. We have to tell them the truth. They deserve at least that. For the few months, you have wanted to call Bhabhi up and tell her everything. You have forgotten everything, then why can't you just tell Bhabhi the truth now?"

"Yes, Maanvi. What is the truth? If you have forgiven everything in the past, then why do still treat me like an outsider. Why can't I be a part of your life? I wasn't even told about your marriage. Did I really become a stranger? I had always dreamed about your marriage. How I would give you away and do your Kanyadaan, and I wasn't there, for the biggest day of your life. You didn't see the need to tell me, either of you. And now you are hiding something else from me. Something that I know is huge, you don't understand what this last year had been like. And now to know that you have forgotten everything months ago...'

"Di" she whispers. She wanted to reach her hand out but didn't have the courage. As Jeevika was about to leave she turned back at Maanvi.

"Di, I'm sorry Di. I couldn't tell you anything before. I just couldn't bring myself to tell you the truth. I tried calling you a million times but hung up after the first ring. It wasn't something I could do on the phone, but I couldn't face you, not after what happened."

Jeevika sat next to Maanvi and took get hand. She reassuranced her that she could handle the truth and that she wanted to know and that she could handle it.

"Di, I married Virat because we love each other. After Badi Beeji died Virat stayed in Rishikesh, he helped around the house and helped us all cope with our loss. He was great support not only up me but to everyone. Then once we found out about me, we decided to marry"

"Maanu want did you find out about yourself?"

" I .. I have leukaemia..." Jeevika's world crashed into a million pieces.

"... I'm fine though." she quickly said, "I'm having treatment and it seems to be working. The doctors ate hopefully that everything will be fine."

Jeevika who was holding Maanvi's hand let go. She tried to make sense what she was just told, but it didn't, it couldn't. Silently she stood and walked out of the door. Leaving Viren and Virat shocked and Maanvi sobbing for her sister.

Viren rushed out and followed Jeevika. Jeevika was remembering all the moments she shared with Maanvi, all the times she wanted to call her, she wished she had plucked up the courage and made that call. Maybe then, she would have known sooner. Her world crumbled. As she walked, she had no sense of direction or awareness. Suddenly she felt a pull. Viren had grabbed her as she had walked out of the hospital and was headed towards oncoming traffic. He wrapped his arms around her. Jeevika who was still in shock was unable to react. She stood there lifeless.

Viren wanted to take Jeevika back to Maanvi's room as he knows that where she wants to be. However, he knew she needed time to process it all. He took her to family room. Where he sat her down and tried to talk to her. Viren was struggling seeing Jeevika in this state. He feared that she would slip backwards. Those words of hers that she had written flooded back to her. She was once in a dark place and hoped that she didn't return there. Without saying a word, Jeevika left and headed towards Maanvi's room. As she peered into the room, she looked on as Maanvi was quietly sobbing to Virat. A nurse brushed past her to check to Maanvi as she was being discharged. Jeevika wanted to enter the room but she didn't have the courage. How could she face her? What would she say?

"DI!" Maanvi saw Jeevika by the door she signalled Virat to bring Jeevika inside, slowly he pulled Jeevika in the room, before excusing himself. Jeevika took Maanvi by the hand and asked her to sit. She knelt on the floor in front of her and took her hand.

"So this was it. This is what you have been hiding from us. Why? Did you think your Di couldn't handle it. Or after everything that happened I simply wouldn't care. Pagal, ek rak ki dogi tujhe. You didn't tell me? The person who you shared all your secrets with, big or small and you didn't tell me something this huge.

I know your grown up now, why would you tell me everything. Who am I? Just your crazy elder sister. Tell me something ' you tried convincing me that your fine, your treatment is going well. Then why are you here in Chandigarh? Why are you not in Rishikesh? Maanu?"

Hearing those words from Jeevika, made Maanvi realise what she had been missing. Her sister who would love and care for her as well as question her when she knew better. She sat their quietly.

"Tell me Maanvi! If everything is fine why are you here?" She stood up to leave Manvi grabbed onto her hand.

"Di..actually... I "she was stammering to get her words out. She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down.

"Di, my treatment is going well. Honestly, it's just... Chandighar had better facilities compared to Rishikesh so we headed up here." she tried not meeting Jeevika glare, as she couldn't lie to her face anymore.

"Ok, Maanu. If that's the truth I believe you, but can you say that again looking at me." a shiver ran down Maanvi spine. How could she say that again, half of it may have been true, however half wasn't and Maanvi could no longer lie. She broke down in front of Jeevika and sobbed in her lap. She told her the truth, the entire tale. How her cancer is spreading and they have come to Chandighar for better treatment, yet Maanvi is unsure if it will have any effect at all. Jeevika wiped her tears and sat her up.

"Did you know that in this entire world there is only one Maanvi. My sister. Who I will not let anything happen to. You have always seen me weak and falling at the graces of others but you have never seen my strength, which is you. You Maanu are my strength. Together we can fight this."

Told you it was a long update, I hope you didn't get too bored in the middle, sorry about the length

Part six

Once Jeevika and Viren found out the truth about Maanvi they brought her to their home. They set Virat and Maanvi up in their own room and were slowly becoming a family once again. Jeevika and Maanvi had always wished to live together forever and for now their wish had been granted.

Maanvi had finished a three week cycle of chemo. The effects from her chemo were starting to ease. She was slowly beginning to feel better, she always did at the end of her cycles. After months of care and treatment, Maanvi was given green light. She was in remission.

One evening Maanvi wondered into the kitchen looking for a bottle opener, as she opened the top drawer she saw that it was filled with junk. She looked through the drawer to try to find what she wanted. Under all the rubbish she found something - a picture. Even though it was burned she knew what it once was.

She remembered that day just like it was yesterday. It was a day in Rishikesh, with her Di and her entire family. The picture was the Chaudary family sitting by ganga ghat, all her family together. As she looked at the image she knew why Jeevika wanted to burn that memory.

'Maanvi! Maanvi! Where is this girl? Maanvi!?" Jeevika stumbled into the kitchen where she saw Maanvi holding the picture in her hand. She rushed up to Maanvi, snatched the picture from her, shut it in the drawer and left. Maanvi was left stunned, she wanted to finally talk about the past, but couldn't help to think that Jeevika wasn't ready.

Viren and Virat had gone out got the night, leaving Maanvi and Jeevika home alone. After that incident Jeevika had not come out of her room. It has been hours and Maanvi was beginning to worry, so she decided to talk to her. She knocked on the door but there was no reply, she knocked again, but there was still no reply. She decided to go in. She saw Jeevika sitting the bed with a drink in her hand. Slowly she walked over to her and sat beside her. She took her sister's hand.

"Di?" as Maanvi looked at Jeevika she knew something was wrong.

"Di, what is this? Why have you shut yourself off? Di?" Maanvi tried nudging her only to spill her drink.

"Di! What are you drinking? Di this is vodka, what the... Di we need to talk, we can't go on like this we need to get everything out. That picture..."

"Maanvi" Jeevika spoke in a quiet voice.

"Do you remember that day?" Maanvi nodded, how could she forget that day.

"That day was so different to the ones after. The days when we used to roam the streets and talk about what our lives would be like. Did you think it would turn out like this? We went over year without talking to each other - over a year! Why!? Because we fought on a small issue, an issue that is irrelevant now. They is no use discussing the past, why should we dwell on something we cannot change." Jeevika stood to leave.

"Forget the past? When you haven't forgotten the past, how can you tell others to? Burning that picture proves how much... "

"I burnt that months ago. It forgotten and is history. We can't change the past, but we can change the future - Maanu please leave it alone. Let the past stay buried."

"What happened to you Di? How did you change so much? You were never like this. You never thought like this?"

"A lot changes in a year Maanvi. Life changes in a mintue, you know that. It's been a year. Last year did you think you ever think that you would be married? That you would have battled cancer and be in remission. Just like that, I have changed, and you can't judge me for changing. The world has changed, can't I?" Jeevika who was slightly tipsy continued on about how things are so different. As Maanvi looked at her sister, it was hard to believe this is the same Jeevika she grew up with, these words seemed cold and distant as if Jeevika wasn't even saying it. The words did not seem real, nothing Jeevika said linked up, it was all vague as if she didn't want to acknowledge anything.

"Enough Di. I know life has changed. I am not that naive to think otherwise. But to overcome the past you need to acknowledge it. Which I don't think you have, otherwise you wouldn't have reacted like this. Seeing that burnt picture shouldn't have sent you to your room to get drunk! Why is it so difficult for you to just talk about it. If we are truly past it then talking about it shouldn't create any issues, it can only solve them, right?" Maanvi could see that Jeevika was tense and was getting hard for her to handle. She didn't want to push her but wanted her to release that pain buried inside her. Jeevika stormed out of the room and slammed the door behind her. However this time Maanvi wasn't going to give up. She follows Jeevika out who was staggering as she tried to leave. She holds into the table and calms herself down.

With her back to Maanvi she began to talk "Why can't things be left alone? Why does talking things to death seem to make people think that you are over something. I don't need to talk about things to be over them. Yes I reacted badly seeing that picture. Maybe I should have had a drink or two. I'm sorry, I'm human, I make mistakes. Who said I had to be perfect. I lost so much over the last year, and each part took something from me. Something that I didn't even notice, not until it was all gone. I lost my family - Beeji, Dabbu, Chachu, Chachi, Badi Beeji, Maa. Virenji became my family, and we tried to create our own little world here without anyone, trying to fill the void. But in actual fact that void could never be filled especially since I lost my children. I lost you Maanvi and my own child. How could I function losing both? After I lost you and I found out I was pregnant I was ecstatic. Noone could take your place in my heart but there was a life growing inside me. You cannot describe that feeling, the joy of having a child that close, taking life inside you. Then in a flash I lost her as well. So I changed I..." suddenly Jeevika felt someone hugging her from behind. Maanvi held onto her as Jeevika turned and cuddled her. The matter was not discussed again, the past the left to rest.

A few months later.

Even though Maanvi's was free from cancer her and Virat stayed in Chandighar with Jeevika and Viren. They had finally formed a small extended family. Virat decided to follow his dream of being a musician and Maanvi wanted to start a career in helping families suffering from cancer.

Jeevika and Maanvi were back to their normal selves. Jeevika had finally let go of that darkness inside of her. She had her child back and she was never going to let her go.

It was a Sunday afternoon, after weeks all four were at home at the same time. On the spur of the moment Viren suggested that they all go out for the afternoon. A picnic in a park as it was a beautiful day. They packed some food and drink and left for the afternoon. They found a spot of grass and set themselves up. They ate food, played games and simply enjoyed themselves. None of them had laughed his much in what had felt like years. Amid all this happiness there was someone watching. Someone who wanted to go up to them but they did not have the courage. As their wife nodded them on. They both walked up to four of them.

"Viren?"

Viren turned to see his Chacha and Chachi standing behind him. Virat, Maanvi and Jeevika stood as Chacha hugged Viren, and Chachi stood there teary eyed. They were both so happy to see their nephews together. They wanted them to come home.

"Chachu you know we can't. We can't go back here. We're are happy, we would love to have our family back but that's not possible. But we have each other." Viren put his arm over Jeevika's shoulders. Inder and Kadambari sat with the four of them and chatted away. Catching up on their lives. How things have changed since they have spoken. They boys talked about work and sports. While the girls discussed work but really gossiped about celbs and films.

*phone starts ringing.*

Inder excuses himself and takes a call thinking it is linked to work.

"What? How did that happen? Ok we will be there shortly" Inder cut the phone.

"Come on Kadambari, we have to leave"

"What happened chachu," Jeevika asked.

"Bauji had a fall he's been taken to hospital" suddenly Viren, Jeevika, Maanvi and Virat all left with Chachu and Chachi to the hospital.

The six of them rushed into the hospital and tried to find out which room Bauji was in. The hospital staff were less than helpful, after half an hour of searching round they were finally able to locate the family. As they all walked him, Vanshika couldn't help but to smile at the sight of her sons. She went up to them and hugged them tightly. She blessed her daughter in laws before wondering back into the room. As Inder left to see his father, Viren and Virat walked with him. Almost immediately both Jeevika and Maanvi took their hands. They walked with their husbands into Dadaji's room. As they opened the door, they saw Dadaji asleep on his bed and Swamini sitting by his side. As she glazed up, she was shocked to see the four of them gathered together. As she stood a nurse walked in informing them all that visiting hours are over and that they had to leave. Swamini insisted on staying with her father, but the nurse simply refused as it was against hospital policy. With this everyone left the hospital and in the hustle of everything Viren, Jeevika, Maanvi and Virat were headed to the Vadhera mansion.

"Today the prodigal sons returned. You lost your way and now have returned home. Where you lived a life of ease and luxury. Where..." As Swamini was talking on her high horse, Virat and Viren looked at each other thinking who should cut in.

"Badi Ma, we never left, but we haven't returned. We came to see Dadaji and now we have. We shall leave." Viren spoke.

"Bua, the prodigal son lost his way and needed to return home to gain forgiveness and to be alive once again. We never lost our way, we just sought after a different path. A path that was not expected of us, but it was how we wished to live." Virat added

Swamini was fuming with anger. Her taunts on the boys didn't work in the way that she has wished, and now didn't know what to say. The rest of the family asked them to say as the four were about to leave.

"So Jeevika I guess what you said that day at your school was a lie. You were well aware of Maanvi and Virat's marriage. Seeing you all together proves that much. I still cannot fathom how both of you have cast spells over our sons. They never spoke or acted like this before." Viren and Virat were about to blow but Jeevika and Maanvi held them back.

"Buaji, if you have a problem or an issue, could you please stop beating round the bush and come to a point." Maanvi quipped.

"That's all we needed another smart mouth in the family. Here we have one sister who has no respect for elders and another who disregards them entirely. Who did not have the decency to face up to her incompetency."

"that matter had been over a year now Buaji. It..."

"It can not be forgotten Jeevika or ever forgiven. You chose to made a decision regardless of the consequences. Without even thinking about this family and our respect. Do you even remember what that decision cost us? We were left without shred of dignity."

That's it for now guys, gotta think about the rest. I don't know why but I wanted to make Jeevika drunk. Sorry if you don't like that.

Thank all for your comments on part three. Eva the notes reminded you of Grey's voiceovers- so am I dark and twisty now?? Anyways I sure you are bored of my ranting before each part but here is the next instalment. Be sure to tell me if makes no sense or the characters are completely derailed. PS normal housekeeping ignore all grammatical errors.

Part 4

As Viren opened the door in Rishikesh, he was amazed by the house. The open space, the breeze, the quietness. As Jeevika unpacked she admired the views of Rishikesh. The Ganges could be seen the distance as well as a view was Shivji idol. She loved this town, for many reasons and slowly she was feeling like her old self.

As they wondered the streets of Rishikesh, Jeevika told Viren stories about her past. The mischief she would get up to, the tales of streets and the anecdotes that made no sense to him. This was her life for so many years; she couldn't detach herself from this - even if she tried.

As they walked across the ghat neither of them had noticed that the steps were slippery. They both fell with Viren landing on top on Jeevika. Viren quickly rose, but Jeevika was struggling to get up. Viren picked her up and took her to the hospital. After a few minutes, Jeevika insisted that she was fine, adamant to get her checked out, Viren didn't listen.

"I thought I was the Fikar minster?!" Jeevika said sarcastically. Laughing at her comment Viren headed towards the hospital. Once being checked out, the doctors told her it was nothing serious, just to talk care and rest.

As they left the hospital, Viren heard his name from behind. They both turned and were shocked to see Virat standing behind them. Virat walked up to Viren and hugged him. Viren looked at Jeevika with a puzzled look on his face. They didn't understand why Virat was in Rishikesh. After everything that has happened over the last year, that was truly unexpected.

"Bhai your in Rishikesh? What a surprise! But what are you doing in the hospital?" Not knowing whether to respond, Viren simply told him that, Jeevika had fallen and they came to check her out. Wanting to ask Virat for his reason for being in the hospital, Viren was unsure whether to ask.

"Bhabhi, how are you? Are you guys going to go to..." before Virat had even finished his sentence, Viren placed his hands on his brother. He knew that they had no intention of going to the Chaduary house. However, Virat wanted to get then there. Jeevika took Viren's hand and was about to leave when Virat stepped forwards and offered them a ride. Coldly Jeevika told him, she knew what he was trying to do but she would never go to that house again. They may live here, but she doesn't have any obligations anymore.

Virat wanted to make then realise that there were so many things that they didn't know, as he went to speak a woman's voice called from behind Jeevika for Virat. She knew voice; she had grown up listening to that voice. Her taunts, her anger, her telling offs to her love. Beeji came to Virat but before she could speak, she noticed Jeevika and Viren. Her eyes filled with tears. She had thought she would not see Jeevika again and seeing her before her very eyes was a dream come true. She caressed her hair gently and they both embraced. Beeji was adamant on taking Jeevika home, after many refusals Jeevika finally caved. She was headed back to her family home after over a year.

As they left the hospital, Jeevika was clutching onto Viren hand. The car ride there was silent, but Jeevika and Viren had their own dialogue going on. He tried to reassure her that everything would be fine and that he was there for her. The fear and dread was clearly written across Jeevika's face. How could she do this? How could she face them all? How could she face Maanvi? This dread was eating inside if her, she felt physically sick. She wanted to run, run so far away that no one could find her. Suddenly the car halted, they were there.

Viren stepped out of the car and put his hand out to Jeevika. Slowly she reached out to Viren taking his hand; Jeevika stepped out of the car. As she looked at the house, all the memories came flooding back. Running to the door with Maanvi as a child, playing in the courtyard with Dabbu, the fights, the giggles, there was a whole lifetime lived in this house.

Virat pushed the door opened and nothing had changed, the house was exactly the same as she remembered it. The same sofa, the wooden swing, and that broken light that nobody ever fixed. Clutching onto Viren, she couldn't help to feel an outsider. She may have had her memories here, but this was no longer her home. As they entered the house one thing was different, there was no noise. No screaming, no laughter, or pranks, the house was quiet.

"Daabu's at work. He works in a local shop as a salesman. He should be home soon. Maanvi..."

Just as Beeji mentioned Maanvi's name, she noticed Jeevika's body becoming tense. She couldn't move.

All of a sudden, Maanvi came out calling for Beeji. Dressed in a purple kurta she rushed up to Beeji and Virat, where she noticed Viren and Jeevika standing in the living room. As Jeevika looked at Maanvi, she had noticed many things had changed. She had lost a lot a weight. Maanvi was always slim, but she was slimmer than she had ever been before. Her hair was shoulder length, which was very surprising as Beeji never allowed them to keep short hair.

"What they are they doing here?" Maanvi said in a shocked voice. "It's been over a year and now, they have come to see us. What do they think that everything is forgotten? Some things cannot be taken back."

Virat tried to calm Maanvi down and explain to her what had happened, but Maanvi did want to listen to them. Her anger was the same as it was one year ago. Jeevika was surprised. She knew coming here was wrong on all levels, but she never expected Maanvi to react in this way.

Just as Maanvi was trying to talk, she was finding it difficult to breathe, Beeji quickly grabbed her as Virat ran and got some water. They sat her down and gave her something to drink, once she had finished Beeji escorted her to her room. Viren and Jeevika stood there in shock; they did not just know what happened. On the surface things looked as if they had not changed but inside they had. Virat had become a permanent figure in the Chaduray house, the dynamics have completely changed, and Jeevika was unable to comprehend anything.

Jeevika was about to leave, Beeji stopped her. She lifted her hands and apologised to Jeevika and Viren for Maanvi outburst. Lowing Beeji's hands Jeevika spoke.

"Beeji, you don't need to apologise. I shouldn't have come, it was my mistake. I didn't think Maanvi anger would be the same today. So much as changed since then, I've gone through so much, things no one knows about. I thought that maybe her anger would have calmed. But I guess not, if she wants to live with her anger, I will learn to live with regrets."

Under her breath, Beeji says ' "She's living with her regrets as well."

"What regrets Beeji? What has Maanvi got to regret. She got what she wanted. She made that clear today, she doesn't regret anything" Jeevika was ready to leave, but Beeji wanted to tell her all but couldn't.

"She has more regrets than you will know. Jeevika you know your sister, do you believe that she would be this anger at you for this long? You are Jeevika and Maanvi. The two who were inseparable, who couldn't go a moment without talking or seeing each other. Your fights lasted two seconds. Now you have gone a year with no contact and you think she is happy with that?"

"What I am suppose to think Beeji, we were Jeevika-Maanvi two names spoken in once breath. But, now we are just Jeevika and Maanvi two separate people, living our separate lives and this is the way it is suppose to be. Life changes, people move on and I guess that we have done." Beeji was shocked hearing Jeevika's words. Jeevika always looked at the brighter side of life, she wouldn't simply hand things as they came and was never a pessimist.

"Life has definitely changed. I never thought that I would hear those kind of words from you. I guess you have changed. Maybe now isn't the right time, maybe you still need time you fill those wounds that you both have created."Jeevika took blessings from Beeji and left the house with Viren.

Back in Maanvi's room, Virat came in and checked on her. She was sitting on her bed thinking about Jeevika. Virat came behind her and put his hands around her waist, he put his head on her shoulders and asked her what she was thinking about.

"Virat, ... do you think I was a bit harsh with Di. I mean it's been a year and she came on her own accord. Which itself took guts and I just yelled at her." Maanvi stood up and walked towards the mirror.

"I know I did overeat but what was supposed to do. She was just there! It's not like I could tell her the truth. After all we have said, how can I just tell her that I have cancer. We not the same people we once were, I guess we both proved that today" Maanvi sighed as she looked at Virat. He knew not to say anything, simply being there and listening to his wife was enough for her. He stood from the bed and wrapped his arms around her.

As night fell, Viren worried about Jeevika as she had barely spoken since returning from the Chaduary house. The fire was burning in the back, and Viren and Jeevika cuddled of the sofa. He looked over at his wife who seemed to at peace.

"Jeevika?"

As she peered at her husband she knew what he wanted to ask. Taking his hand she explained to him that she was fine.

"What happened today needed to happen. Now I can move on and so can she. I now know there is no place for me there. And that's fine, I have a life with you and I will be happy in that life. I know I've held onto so much pain and kept that weight in my heart. I just woke up after everything and it was there, but slowly it is decreasing, especially when I am with you and now this chapter is closed. We can move on together." They hugged and fell asleep with the fire dying out in the background.

Part 8

The four of them returned home after leaving the Vadhera house for maybe the last time. Months past, Virat and Maanvi had permanently moved in with Viren and Jeevika in Chandigarh.

"DI!" Maanvi rushed into the room.

"Maanu what the matter?" Maanvi grabbed Jeevika by the hands and was trying to get her to move.

"Come with me I have a surprise for you. Di come on!" She rushed Jeevika to the dark room. The room that was once empty. She made Jeevika close her eyes.

"Three, two, one OPEN!" As Jeevika opened her eyes she saw a beautifully decorated room, it was yellow and purple their favourite colours. There sat two little cots, awaiting their arrival. One was for Jeevika's child and another for Maanvi's. Happiness had returned in the form of new life. Jeevika couldn't believe her eyes. Was this the same room she once used to come into to when no one was around?

"Maanu did you do..."

"Don't be silly Di, do you think I would be allowed to? Even though it was my idea, and my hard work. No Jiju and Virat did all the heavy lifting, I just supervised." She smugly announced.

Suddenly Virat arrived and grabbed his pregnant wife from behind.

"What's happening here? Showing Bhabhi my beautiful work?!" He stated sarcastically. He took Jeevika away from Maanvi, "Over here Bhabhi will be your niece or nephew and here will be mine."

"Oi, why are you taking all the credit! It was my idea..."

"But I executed it. They say it's the person who executes the plan is remembered, not the one that makes it."

"Well I would have if you would have let me!"

Virat and Maanvi carried on with their argument without a care in the world. There Jeevika stood watching her sister and devar argue as they always did. She knew in about 10 minutes it would all be forgotten.

Quietly she tiptoed out of the room and headed back to hers. There they sat a box. A perfectly wrapped box, which was not there 20 minutes ago. As she opened it, something fell out. It contained a small teddy. Jeevika slowly bend now and picked it up. It looked very similar to one she had many years ago. A small little rabbit with floppy bunny ears, and a yellow bow around its neck. She had a hint of a smile and carefully placed it on the bedside table.

As night fell Jeevika had fallen asleep waiting for Viren. She had hoped he would have come early, as that present couldn't be from anyone else. However he never came. Later that night, Viren crept into their room. Trying not to wake Jeevika up. He laid beside her and placed his hand over her belly. Jeevika was currently 6 months pregnant and this pregnancy did not currently have any complications such as her previous one. Viren was being extra carefully throughout this pregnancy, which was actually annoying Jeevika quite a bit. However, he couldn't help it. He wanted everything to go as smoothly as possible. He lightly kissed Jeevika on the cheek and went to sleep for the night.

A few days later.

It was still morning and Viren was getting ready for work. He took one end of the bed sheet and Jeevika took the other.

"Jeevika, have you thought of any baby names? What about family names?" They lifted the sheet over and tucked back in.

"If it's a boy, we could go for mine or your Dad's name. How does Mahesh or Vikram sound? Or even my Mom's name? Actually..." Jeevika paused for a second as she had an idea, "I wanna name our child Dimple."

They picked up the duvet and began to fix it into position.

"DIMPLE!" Viren stated fluffing his pillow.

"Naming her after Maanvi's favourite doll!"

"Well I can't name her Maanvi, seeing as that is also a family name! But I could name her after Maanvi's favourite doll, that might be a start."

"It doesn't matter what we call our child. Your sister will still only call it Chutku or Chutki"

"God how I hate those names!" Jeevika chucked the pillow down onto the bed. Jeevika straightened up the blanket.

"Bhai!" Viren heard Virat calling him from outside. He kissed Jeevika and slightly messed up the blankets arrangement on purpose.

This part was slightly shorter but I thought it might be too long in one post so I split it.

Feel free to comment or slate it :D

Ok I'm kind of back with my next update. I know it's been a while, but I really struggled writing it. Came up and even wrote different scenarios but ended up going with this. Forgive all the grammatical errors, as I haven't really been able to edit properly. I've written two extra parts which I will post in separated posts for you all as it might be a tad long otherwise.

Part 7

****Flashback****

Since Jeevika and Maanvi's split, Jeevika had been trying to make up with her sister. She often used Daabu as a way in, calling him up every day just find out the happenings of the house. However, soon Swamini Bua found out, she was fuming because of her dislike to Jeevika's maternal home, especially her sister. Swamini was pleased with the current discord between the sisters, as this was the only way Jeevika could be free from her antics.

However, since this rift, Jeevika was not the same person she once was. Something in her had changed and this was something Swamini had not noticed, leaving her blindsided when things began heating up. It started off as little things: missing to check household supplies, forgetting to help Sholk, not getting to the table on time and even being a bit blunt sometimes. After a while, something was beginning to click.

Viren had been summoned to the office of interrogation.

"Come Viren, I need to speak to you," Swamini spoke in a serious tone. Viren slowly entered the room and thought of sitting but suddenly changed his mind.

"Viren, I am noticing a slight difference in Jeevika's behaviour recently. She doesn't seem herself, being late for the table is not something that should be taken lightly." Viren could sense where this was heading and honestly he didn't want to stick around for it. He knew about Jeevika and her feelings more than anyone else and didn't need to hear it from Swamini. He peered down at his watch.

"Badi Ma, actually I have a very important meeting to head to." Swamini was trying to stop him, "The client is one of Dadaji top clients. Sorry Badi Ma..." Viren quickly dashed out of there, he wasn't lying about the meeting, but he didn't have to leave so early.

Swamini Vadhera was a big name in the city of Chandighar. People always respected her and the causes that she supported. One special cause in everyone's hearts is the education of children, all children within the country. Swamini had formed a new organisation to improve the state of schools and education.

Jeevika also became part of this. For the first time since her separation, she was willing to give her all into something. Especially to something linked to education, after all she was once a teacher. However, after finding out more about Swamini's plans, the more she disagreed with it. The aim of the organisation was to provide better facilities to local school to help develop children progress. This was not something she objected, but knew there were more pressuring issues in the education system.

There was a knock on the door, "Buaji, could I speak to you?"

"Yes, Jeevika come in. I'm just sorting out some organisation paperwork. You will not believe the mountain."

Jeevika walked it into the room prepared with what she was going to say.

"Actually (pause) Buaji," she pauses once again.

"Jeevika would you spit it out, I'm a bit busy."

"Buaji, it's about the organisation. I think we need to focus on something different. I mean there is something a lot more pressuring than simply providing the upper middle class with new gadgets. I know from working in Rishikesh that there needs to be investment on quality teaching and getting..."

"Jeevika, please I know where this money should go and how we should head this organisation. Thank you for your suggestion." Swamini turned back round to her desk, and carried on with her own agenda. Jeevika left dishearten and returned to her room. She couldn't help to think that even though Swamini's vision is not corrupt there was will a better use of this infrastructure.

Viren returned from home, and headed to his room where he saw Jeevika blankly staring at her laptop. He questioned her worries. Then she began to tell him her concern and views about.

"Well Jeevika if that's the way Badi Ma wants to take it, and you have tried to share your views and she doesn't agree. Then want can you really do? You went to her and shared your views. You tried maybe you could try and another time."

Jeevika couldn't help to still feel disheartened by the issue. An idea just popped into Viren's mind, "Or you share your views with another organisation, which focuses on that issue more. Maybe you could help them?"

Jeevika took on Viren advice and began researching other organisations that follow what she had envisioned. She found a charity that did so and started to join to their views.

A few weeks later

A fundraiser had been organised to celebrate the work done by Swamini organisation and other charities to improve the education system.

"We would like to welcome you all to this very auspicious event. Where we have the opportunity to celebrate the work you all do to improve our countries future as well as carrying on supporting the cause. I would like to welcome on stage, someone who is closely linked to this charity. Mrs Jeevika Vadhera." Swamini was taken back; she almost dropped what was in her hand, when Jeevika name was spoken.

"Thank you Mr Samani. I would like you thank you all for the support given to this charity. It was formed to improve the quality of teaching across social classes. By providing teachers with extra training to facilitate not only children's progress but there wellbeing within school. We are also trying to ensure that every child has the opportunity to get an education whether that be: in a city, town or village. This is our aim, to get children educated regardless of their circumstance or gender." Jeevika went on and explained what exactly the charity is doing.

By the end of the fundraiser, Swamini had tolerated enough, she was going to speak to Jeevika about this whole situation. In front of the entire media, Jeevika was standing alongside another charity preaching something very different to their family organisation. However, before she could get speak to Jeevika. Journalists and media coverages wanted a quote about this conflict of interest. Swamini being her usual self brushed them off abruptly. This sparked media attention as after the event more attention was given to the two Vadhera women rather than the cause.

Swamini stormed into the house like a whirlwind. She has never been so angry. A member of her family takes such a drastic decision and does not even have the curtsy to inform her. She was not going to stand for it. She picked up the newspaper and stormed off downstairs where the entire family minus Jeevika were waiting.

"Badi Ma... I" started Viren.

Swamini slammed the newspaper down, which had printed about the whole affair in great detail.

"No Viren I'm sorry, today I don't want to hear from you. It is not your fault that we are in this position, with the entire world looking at us, what respect have we got left? The person who is to blame is not even here." Within this gap Viren tried to explain that he had somewhat encouraged Jeevika to join the charity as it fitted more with her perspective.

"No Viren! This cannot happen. Today's your wife has crossed all limits. What did you think, we would praise you and Jeevika for your actions?! What does she think of herself! She..." Swamini voiced raised louder than it had ever been before. The echoes of her voice could her heard across the Vadhera mansion. Her anger was such that no one could tame her. Her trusted nephew was no longer at her disposal. He had formed a mind of his own, which did not only consider the wishes of Badi Ma. Before Swamini could even finish Viren had heard enough.

"Enough! If you think I will stand here whist you degrade my wife in my presence, then you are mistaken. I respect you and you are older than me, but to insult my wife in front it me, I will not accept. I admit..."

"Wow? This is all that we had to see. Viren you are raising you voice to me? Your Badi Ma, today Jeevika has shown her true colours. She has turned our own son against his family, never mind her own faults. Where is she now? We're all here because of her actions and she sits comfortably in her room. How shameless can one be?"

Viren stormed off in a fit of anger, he could not listen anymore. He headed towards his room, moments later he emerged with Jeevika in one hand and a suitcase in other. He silently left the Vadhera house without a word, in front of his entire family.

Viren was finally able to see what he couldn't in all these years. He knew this Badi Ma could love endlessly but today he realised how she could hold a grudge and how her feelings of resentment would never be lifted. The venom in which she spoke will never be erased from Viren's mind.

Ashes to Ashes, dust to dust.

End of flashback
