March 2014, promos of Ek Hasina Thi started doing the rounds on Star Plus and its sister channels. The very first look was gripping and promised something different.

April 14, 2014. The first episode of Ek Hasina Thi itself, set pace for a thrilling drama with strong protagonists and equally powerful antagonists.

In glut of saas bahu, romance and costume period dramas, Ek Hasina Thi came as a refreshing change. A tale of revenge, justice, love, betrayal, mystery and conspiracies.

Ek Hasina Thi is a suspense drama, a tale of a girl called Nitya who assumes a new identity of Durga Thakur and comes to Kolkata to seek revenge and justice for her sister Payal. She is up against the mighty Goenka family that is one of the richest and most influential families of the city and hold key to each who's who. Rajnath and Sakshi Goenka control the Goenka empire. Their son Shaurya is a typical rich spoilt brat who is a playboy and bets on sleeping with women. He raped Payal when he was unable to win the bet to get Nitya on his bed. The Goenkas being the powerful influencers they are, manipulated and intimidated witnesses to get verdict in their favour and saved their son Shaurya. They also got Nitya's family eliminated and tried to get her killed as well.
Nitya was saved by Dr Dayal Thakur though her face was damaged. He gave her new face through plastic surgery and gave her identity of his own deceased daughter Durga Thakur. Together they got Payal treated and planned an elaborate mission to expose the Goenkas.

What follows next is intense journey of roller coaster emotions, dirty secrets, power games and dangers along the way...Here everyone is on a mission...for love or for revenge...

Ek Hasina Thi marked comeback of popular actors like Simone Singh (Heena fame), Ayub Khan, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Vatsal Sheth (Just Mohabbat fame), Kishwer Merchant (Dhadkan fame).
It has quickly gone on to gain cult following as it is now second most watched show at 8 PM slot on Hindi GECs, top most watched Indian show in the UK. The character of Durga has constantly featured in "Fastest Growing TV characters" Ormax Media's Characters India Loves. Sanjeeda Sheikh was featured by Rediff among Top 10 TV Actresses for Ek Hasina Thi. Vatsal Sheth and Sanjeeda Sheikh won Star Parivaar Awards for Most Stylish Male and Female Sadasya respectively at SPA 2014. Vatsal Sheth has received rave reviews for his villainous act as Shaurya Goenka and the Shaurya Goenka mobile ringtone, whistle have gained popularity. Simone Singh has gained immense appreciation as Sakshi Goenka and the Sakshi Goenka sarees, necklaces are already sought after in real life.
The website BollywoodLife named Ek Hasina Thi as the best TV show to go on air in first half of 2014.

NITYA MITRA/DURGA THAKUR

Nitya Mitra was the daughter of driver employed with the Goenkas. She and Payal knew Goenkas since childhood. She was a brave, innocent, middle-class girl whose world revolved around her family and a best friend (Dev Goenka). She dreamed of being independent but was never greedy for wealth. She believed in standing up against the injustice. She dared to fight for justice for her younger sister Payal but in return she lost her parents and her sister was sent to mental hospital. She met with an accident while running from goons. Her beautiful face was damaged. She was taken to US for treatment by a well-wisher and got plastic surgery. She got a new face. A new identity, Durga Thakur. She has been the only support of her sister Payal throughout.

Durga Thakur is the new identity given to Nitya Mitra after her accident and plastic surgery. Dr Dayal Thakur gave her the identity of his now deceased daughter Durga who lived in the US. Durga is smart, manipulative and has returned from the US after two years, to take revenge from Goenkas for crime committed earlier. She works at an NGO. She and Dayal get Payal rehabilitated for her recovery. She is the protagonist of the show.

PAYAL MITRA

Payal Mitra is the younger sister of Nitya. She was a cheerful, college going girl. She was gangraped by Shaurya Goenka and his friends, as a revenge after Shaurya was unable to get Nitya to sleep with him and was slapped by her. She was made to suffer humiliation and intimidation throughout her rape case trial and was forced to change her statement as Goenkas threatened to get her parents killed. Goenkas later got her family eliminated and sent her to a mental asylum where she was given wrong medicines and treatment to make her mentally unstable.
She was traumatised and lost ability to speak, walk or relate to people. She still does not remember her past properly, is healing slowly and is mentally a child.

DR DAYAL THAKUR

He is a surgeon originally settled in the US. Nitya's face got damaged due to accident with his car as she came in front of it while running away from Goenkas' goons. He performed plastic surgery on Nitya's face and gave her face of his own daughter Durga. He took Nitya to US and helped her assume new identity as Durga Thakur and plan revenge against Goenkas. He returned to Kolkata with Durga as his only daughter and is setting up a Cancer hospital with Rajnath Goenka. He is the only pillar, guide, mentor and father figure to Mitra sisters now and helps Durga in taking revenge from Goenkas.

SHAURYA GOENKA

Shaurya Goenka is younger scion of powerful Goenka family of Kolkata. He is a spoilt, rich brat, a playboy and a womaniser. His only aim is to enjoy in life and get things his way. He cannot take no for an answer and will go to any length to get what he wants. He has habit of betting with friends on getting women to sleep with him. It is due to one of these bets that he raped Payal alongwith his friends. He gets away with anything as his doting parents go to any extent to shield him. He got clean chit in rape case also. Heavily into drinking, he is violent and only uses others to his advantage.
He is basically good for nothing and even got fake degree after he failed in exams. He killed a man at a nightclub and recently hatched a conspiracy to get his elder cousin Dev killed.

SAKSHI GOENKA

She is the younger daughter in law of Goenka family, wife of Rajnath Goenka and mother of Shaurya and Kangana. A cold, ruthless, manipulative woman who is proud of her status and family name. Sharp mind, sharp instincts and equally sharp tongue, Sakshi is a beauty with brains, a diva in page 3 circles and power player in Kolkata. Her desire for power and control stem from deprived childhood. She holds all keys in Goenka family, dominates her husband and everyone around her. She knows the deepest secrets of Rajnath. Her biggest weakness is her son Shaurya and she can go to any length to protect him.
She was the mastermind behind all manipulations in Payal rape case and she got doctors to make Payal mentally unstable.

RAJNATH GOENKA

He is the partriarch of Goenka clan, father of Shaurya and Kangana, husband of Sakshi Goenka. A business tycoon for whom only money, status and power matter. He is the most influential man in Kolkata with connections with all who's who from politicians to goons. He gives an impression of a charming gentleman but is a ruthless, greedy businessman in reality who would do anything for wealth and status. He has been involved in an extramarital affair with Raima Maheshwari and his wife is unaware of this. Only recently his son Shaurya learnt of this affair and he still blackmails him to keep it a secret.

ARNAB GOENKA

He was the elder brother of Rajnath. He has not been introduced in the show yet. Apparently he was a good businessman as well as a kind hearted, pious man with a conscience who was involved in social work and philanthropy. He is survived by wife Suchitra and son Dev Goenka. He is said to have died long time ago.

SUCHITRA GOENKA

She is the wife of Arnab Goenka, elder daughter in law of Goenka clan and mother of Dev. She is a simple, pious woman who only wants everyone in the family to be happy. She is deeply religious, her only support is her son Dev. She spends most of her time in social work, running the school started by her late husband, reading and religious activities. She has raised her son Dev to live upto ideals envisioned by his father. She is mostly silent and has little say in family matters.

DEV GOENKA

Dev is the elder scion of Goenka family, son of Arnab and Suchitra Goenka. He is the good guy of this story.
He is a simple, humble man whose world revolves around his family and few close friends. He was introverted and only close to his mother and friends like Nitya and Gautam. He was best friends with Nitya and secretly loved her but never confessed. He was close to her family and was like a brother to Payal. He was sent to the US for further education.
Rajnath Goenka made sure he was away from family and business matters and not allowed to return to India.
He returned to India only after 2 years, recently, and now wishes to investigate truth of his friends Nitya and Payal. He took help of his friends Gautam and his wife in this.
He was targetted by both Durga and Shaurya separately as both considered he betrayed them.

RAIMA MAHESHWARI

She is the best friend and "soul sister" of Sakshi Goenka. A frequent visitor to Goenka mansion, she is involved in every matter of their family as both Sakshi and Rajnath consider her their close confidante. She divorced from her husband recently who suspected her of having illicit relations. She is a page 3 celeb and runs a finishing school. She is indeed having an affair with Rajnath Goenka and was caught red handed with him by his son Shaurya who still blackmails both of them. Sakshi does not know truth of Raima and still treats her as her closest confidante.

KANGANA GOENKA

She is younger sister of Shaurya, daughter of Rajnath and Sakshi Goenka. She is a spoilt, pampered rich girl. She does not get along that well with her mother. She also hides many things from her family, is not that good in studies and has been having an affair with Shaurya's friend Karan secretly. She returned from the US recently after completing a course in fashion.
She was also against Nitya and Payal and only supports her brother Shaurya.

NAVEEN MATHUR

He was the right hand man of Goenkas. He was their legal advisor and CEO of Goenka industries. He helped Goenkas cover up all their crimes, including the Payal rape case. Durga recently created a rift between him and Goenkas leading Goenkas to suspect him and throw him into jail. He swore revenge against Goenkas but is currently in jail.

AKASH

Akash is actually a mole, a spy planted by Durga at Goenkas'. He is employed in place of Naveen Mathur as legal advisor and CEO and is their new right hand man. Only Sakshi Goenka trusts him due to his help in eliminating Bagchis. Rajnath and Shaurya doubt him. He gets all updates, recordings and info from Goenka house and industries to Durga to help her in her plans of revenge.

THE BAGCHIS

Divya Bagchi is the only eyewitness of Shaurya Goenka and his friends raping Payal. She was threatened by Shaurya to keep silent or else she would also be raped. Goenkas made her disappear. Madhusudan Bagchi is her father and was employed as a cook with Goenkas. Goenkas got him beaten and blinded to prevent him from being witness against Shaurya in rape case.
Recently Durga got them to face Shaurya to make him face his past. Shaurya unknowingly funded surgery that restored Madhusudan Bagchi's vision. Sakshi somehow found out Divya through goons and tried to get both father-daughter duo killed. Durga saved them in nick of time and helped them escape from the city.

MR CHOUDHARY

He is the arch rival of Rajnath Goenka. He has homosexual tendencies. Goenkas blame him and suspect him first for any mishap in their lives due to rivalry.

SAHANI

He was the Commissioner of Kolkata Police who accepted bribe and favours from Goenkas to cover up DNA reports and other evidence in Payal rape case to save Shaurya. He learnt his lesson when his own daughter was used and ditched by Shaurya. When he threatened to expose Goenkas he was transferred elsewhere. He had refused to listen to Nitya's pleas during court case.

AVANTIKA

She is the only daughter of police commissioner Sahani. She fell for Shaurya's charms and felt it was love. She got heartbroken when he rejected her marriage proposal. She left the city with her family after her father was transferred.

GANGULY, SAGARIKA, NANDINI

Robindro Ganguly was principal of a college where Shaurya and Payal studied. Due to influence of Goenkas he testified against Payal and alleged she was characterless. He sexually exploited female students and tried to exploit Payal also when she went to him for support during rape case trial. He gave fake degree to Shaurya and was made Vice Chancellor as a reward for serving Goenkas' interests.
He exploited another student Nandini in exchange for grades and job as research fellow. Nandini was his daughter Sagarika's age and her friend. She bore the exploitation due to her poor financial condition. Sagarika caught Nandini and her father at a hotel room in circumstances created by Durga to expose Ganguly.
He was an abusive man and beat his wife and daughter to pulp when they discovered his ugly secret. His daughter Sagarika and wife Sapna admitted his atrocities in public.
He was exposed at a party by Durga who had planted secret cameras at his home and office to record his illicit activities. He was jailed.

Sakshi Goenka had considered his daughter Sagarika for marriage to Shaurya. But proposal fell through after Ganguly was exposed.

MUKHERJEE

He is the new police commissioner of Kolkata and helps cover up crimes of Goenkas as he accepts lots of bribes from each of them. A corrupt man.

SHEKHAR

He was the classmate of real Durga Thakur in US. He is an NRI and had returned to Kolkata for business. He overheard Sakshi Goenka's conversations about Durga and offered to unearth Durga's truth in lieu of financial help from Goenkas. Durga trapped him and created rift between him and Goenkas, ensuring nobody took him seriously.

REAL DURGA THAKUR

She was the only daughter of Dr Dayal Thakur. She was born and studied in the US. She is dead now and apparently had a fallout with her father over an affair with a guy. Apparently an innocent and fun loving girl. It was her face that Dr Dayal gave to Nitya.

NEIL

Neil was one of Dr Dayal's students in the US and is a doctor. He was brought to India for fake engagement with Durga as a part of her revenge plans. He is a nice, flirtatious, jovial man who understands and supports Durga's plans.

SHAURYA'S FRIENDS - RISHI, TARUN, KARAN

They are Shaurya's friends. Rich, spoilt, good for nothing. They involve him in bets for cheap thrills and cash. They are partners in all his crimes. They gangraped Payal along with Shaurya. Karan is son of a minister and is secretly having an affair with Kangana.

Durga Thakur comes to Kolkata from US. She is the daughter of Dr Dayal Thakur. During the Durga Pooja she meets the Goenka's who own the mighty Goenka empire of Kolkata.

There is a mystery around Durga as she vows to get back at Shaurya Goenka the son of Rajnath and Sakshi Goenka. She makes Shaurya smitten by her beauty, but Sakshi Goenka rightfully guesses something mysterious about her.

Then it is shown that Durga support NGOs and she takes care of a girl called Payal. Payal is a rape victim and at that point is mentally unstable. She draws pictures of Shaurya and gets fits whenever she sees the pic.

The Thakurs enter into a Cancer Research Project deal with Goenka's and slowly the viewer's are shown the real motives of Durga Thakur.

Durga Thakur is actually Nithya Mitra elder sister of rape victim Payal Mitra. Shaurya and his 3 friends had gang raped Payal. Goenka's with their might have changed the statement of all witnesses in favour of Shaurya. Sakshi Goenka blackmailed Payal into accepting a marriage offer and change the statement.Shaurya and friends escaped punishment as Payal retraced the statement that Shaurya didn't rape her.

Nithya while trying to escape from the goons who were going to kill her was accidently hit by the car of Dr Dayal Thakur and her face was damaged. Dayal Thakur adopted her, gave her the face of his dead daughter Durga. Now the only mission of Durga is to destroy Goenka's to avenge the injustice done to her sister.

She uses Shaurya and his womanizing habit to her advantage to get at each victims. She at first gets at Naveen Mathur who is the gate keeper of Goenka empire. She manipulates the clues in such a way that it looks like Mathur is the one who has been trying to revive the rape case and finally oust Mathur by the Goenka's themselves and land him up in jail.

Next she understands that Shaurya is running an affair with the daughter of the commissioner who had buried the DNA report of the rape case. She instigates the girl with Shaurya trying to get married and the girl forces her dad to propose marriage to Shaurya. Obviously Goenka's turn down the proposal. Commissioner tells the truth of the rape to his daughter and wife. Goenka's anyways transfer the commissioner.

Meanwhile Sakshi is not at all comfortable with Durga and her discomfort increases when she comes to know that Durga had made Shaurya give eyesight to a person called Madhusoodhan Bagchi. Modhushoodhan Bagchi is actually the dad of Divya Bagchi who is the sole witness of Payal rape case whom the Goenka's prevented from coming to court.

Sakshi visits Bagchi in the hospital and assures him that wherever his daughter is within 24 hrs Sakshi will find her. Durga is tensed. She wants to find Divya before Sakshi as she know if Sakshi reaches Divya she would kill her.

Sakshi paste the photo of Divya and put a prize money of 10 lac on her. In addition to that she uses Aakash her aide to get all info on Nithya and Payal. She gets Nithya's death certificate from hospital and also reports that Payal can never be cured. But Sakshi goes with a vengeance for Divya. Finally some goons see Divya and catch her to get the prize money.

Durga gets info that Sakshi has got Divya. Sakshi brings Mr Bagchi to the place where the goons bring Divya. Aakash also accompanies Sakshi. Sakshi questions Mr Bagchi and Divya about Durga. Divya says she doesn't know. Mr Bagchi says he met her in the rehab centre and she tried giving eye sight to him. He doesn't know anything more. Sakshi is not convinced and orders her men to kill them.

They tie Mr Bagchi and Divya in the garage and put fire to it. Meanwhile Durga reaches there and sees the scene. Aakash asks Sakshi to go. But she says till she is sure of Divya's and her father's death she wont go. Durga makes the noise of the police siren from her mobile which forces Sakshi to go. Durga rushes to save Divya and her father. In this mission of hers it is revealed that she gets the support of Aakash. Aakash actually turns out to be the mole planted by Durga.

They save Divya and her father and Durga makes them go away from Kolkata to a safer place.

In the meantime Dev comes from US. Dev is the son of Arnab Goenka and Suchitra Goenka. Dev has been the friend of Nithya since childhood and all the rape happened when he was in US. He was unable to be with Nithya during the trial time and after 2 years he comes back to know the truth.

Durga meets Dev and she is angry meeting him. Reason when she asked him help she got a reply that Dev will only be with his family. Dr Dayal meanwhile has a good opinion of Dev. Dev tries to know the truth. No one at home interested to tell him the truth. He gets the case files through his friend Gautham's wife Sonali.

Meanwhile Shaurya attack the architect of the Cancer Project and becomes the architect himself. Actually his profession Ganguly recommends him for that. Ganguly tells Shaurya is Gold medallist.

Durga remembers Ganguly as the man who tried to molest Payal when she asked him to speak in favour of her and gave testimonial for Goenka's.She decides to bring him down. With Aakash's help she bugs Ganguly's room. Durga gets the evidence that Ganguly runs affair with a student Nandini blackmailing her. She uses Sagarika Ganguly's daughter to expose him. Sagarika questions Ganguly but Ganguly slaps his wife and shut down Sagarika.

However for the anniversary party Durga switches the CD made by Shaurya and places the CD of Ganguly's domestic violence and affair and expose him. In the party even his daughter and wife turn against Ganguly.

Then the news come out that Ganguly has been giving fake degrees and Shaurya's degree is fake. Goenka's buries the news.However Shaurya confesses the truth to Durga. Durga uses this info and replace Shaurya from the architect post and recommend Dev for the same.

Dev joins the post as he wants to meet Payal and need Nithya's diary both of which he learns that Durga has access. Durga uses this aspect of him to create rift between Dev and Shaurya. Shaurya gets jealous of Dev's closeness to Durga and plans to kill him. He first attempts to run him over with a truck which fails. Dev feels the threat is because of he is trying to find about Payal rape case. So he gives the RTI files to Shaurya and also shifts his friends Gautham and Sonali so as to avoid any risk to their life.

Durga wants to know why Dev went to the place where the accident happened. She goes to meet Dev and in the process ends up knowing that Dev values the locket given to him by Nithya very dearly. She also comes to know from Gautham that Dev loves Nithya. Dr Dayal ask her to reconsider her opinion about Dev. But she remains adamant.

Meanwhile Sakshi tries to use Sekhar a friend of real Durga to expose her. Shekar comes with the evidence of Durga's birthmark during the pooja in Goenka mansion. Durga shows everyone the birth mark and oust Shekhar. She pledges that she will not enter Goenka mansion.

However Dev goes to her and apologizes. Durga remembers Payal recalling Dev as Sunshine the nickname he had given to Payal. She accepts his apology and comes back to Goenka mansion much to Sakshi's displeasure.

Shaurya plans a second attack on Dev with a Russian sharp shooter. He makes calls as if a exhortinist calling and lure Dev. Durga feels something amiss in the call and she along with Dr Dayal follows Dev and find him in a pool of blood.

Dev survives the attack and Durga comes to know the truth of Dev's absence. Her MU about Dev is cleared. Dr Dayal asks her to start a life afresh with Dev. Meanwhile Sakshi knows that Shaurya is behind the attack on Dev. She threatens him with CBI and ask him to stay away from Shaurya.

Durga learns this and decides to get engaged to Shaurya much to the chargin of Dr Dayal. However she takes Dev to Payal and also gives him Nithya's diary. A warm friendship starts between Dev and Durga. Durga hears the tender feelings Dev has for Nithya and Dev is able to open up to Durga which he has not been able with Nithya.

Durga plans a fake engagement with Neil to lure Shaurya and Shaurya walks into her trap much to the chargin of Sakshi and does a suicide attempt.

Durga uses the suicide attempt to her advantage and makes fake confession of love to Shaurya even after Sakshi and Kangana Goenka blame her for Shaurya's suicide attempt. Sakshi feigns acceptance of this alliance.

The twists continue as Shaurya feels he is close to winning his bet, Durga gets closer to Goenkas, Dev suspects fishy in the happenings and Sakshi clearly guesses Durga's plans...

Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of Ek Haseena Thi for completing 100 episodes. This is one show with a difference! Here's wishing the show reaches new heights everyday. :)

Ek Haseena Thi is the only show that I've watched from the first episode. It was really different from the normal saas - bahu dramas and I wish that it stays like this only. The action, plan and all really captivated me and I became addicted to it. All the characters are unique.

Congrats to the cast and crew of EHT for their work. 🥳

My favorite scenes in the show would have to be the ones which have Dr. Thakur with his daughter Durga and the ones with Rajnath. I'll tell you why. Dr. Thakur and his daughter have a solid bond which shows in every frame of their relationship. It may not be joined by blood, but it's stronger than anything the Goenkas share. They don't need to perform in front of each other to get sympathy or trust, they know it's already there. Plus Dr. Thakur has a lot of class. As for Rajnath Goenka, played by Ayub Khan, the scenes are more powerful with a subtle nuance and you somehow feel connected to this gray character in spite of his flaws because of the actor's strength and ability to give a vulnerable side to his role. He is more diplomatic than his wife, and there is more to him than meets the eye.

My favorite styles in the show are mostly worn by Durga and Dev. Durga generally wears long salwar suits in bright colors which suit her youthful persona and slim figure. Even in the short scenes where she was wearing a track suit, she still impressed because Sanjeeda looks good in everything. As for Dev, he wears light colors most of the time which flatter his fair complexion and also go with his good guy image.

Congrats to the cast of EHT for reaching 100 episodes, it is an original show with some very funny moments in between the drama, intrigue, and suspense. Can't wait to see what lies in store for the characters.

Women centric themes with a strong woman at the helm of affairs have always attracted me. Though a strong, dominating female antagonist in the form of a mother in law is a norm for Indian television, what sets Ek haseena thi apart is the central character of Durga Thakur, the female protagonist.

Durga later revealed as Nitya is a strong, sensitive girl who isn't mad with rage at the injustice meted out to her sister and her family but someone who channelized this hurt to take down the powerful perpetuators of society and make them pay for their sins and insensitivity by keeping her humanity intact.

Adept characterization and focus on detail with brilliant star cast and stellar execution by them and the director makes this show stand tall amidst the mediocrity of Indian entertainment. I hope that this show will maintain its momentum and not succumb to the demands of the industry which unfortunately is not conducive to quality and creativity.

Here is wishing the entire team oh Ek Haseena Thi good luck and congratulations on finishing 100 superb episodes. Wishing you continued success with more to come. Cheers!

I so wish to keep watching the show, on the eve of the 100th episode, I request the CVS to please focus on durga's revenge plan rather than this choking love shaurya drama and durga's fake love.

Please bring the edginess back to the show.

And congratulation to the whole team for at-least attempting something different on India Television platform. I might not agree with the current track or some of the illogical things shown in the show but I really hope you this show sees a lot of success in the TRP chart.

Sorry guys got late in making this up.

This is the first ever celebration thread I have ever made on IF.

I have no experience in making such threads. Someone who promised to help did not turn up so I had to put together myself. I hope it's not that bad.😳 I am not experienced with such stuff.

Slow internet connection caused further delay.

Whole day spent in making this up.

Anyway many congratulations to team EHT for 100 episodes and congo shongo to all forum members too!🥳

Party time! Time to relive all memories of show and forum till now and hope for better memories for future!
