Even 70 years would not be enough of a punishment for that. The culprit should be castrated. It makes me sick to see that the judiciary and law think that jail time will straighten these animals out or would be punishment enough for their crimes.

Yes Dipali I was going to say that. After Nirbhaya incident new rape law has been introduced in 2013. Death penalty is the highest form of punishment in rape cases but as for imprisonment is concerned is it 12 years or 20 years ?
This is what The times of India has to say.

Earlier the harassment and molestation cases were not taken seriously. Even acid attacks were not treated as attempt to murder or causing severe harms. One would be surprised that stalking a girl was not a crime at all. With passage of time, this thing has been brought into notice. Now, every organisation or institution is suppose to have a special cell to decide sexual harassment cases. Even a vulgar talk, indecent approach and even showcasing vulgar pictures can be reported as exual harassment.

I agree with the same.

Rapists should be raped and then castrated. If they live even after that, they should be hanged. Any number of years in jail is less for the amount of trauma the victim has gone through.

Shaurya can be awarded death penalty because Payal is not his only victim . We have the casse of Avantika here. I am not sure how the other three will be treated because thair character has not developed as of now.
As for Shaurya's parents, they can be charged for illegal confinement of Bagchis, torture and attempt to murder ( Nitya and Bagchis), destruction of evidence and influencing the judicial process and abbetment to suicide( The Mitras).

The witness who turned hostile can be charged as well. I think the maximum punishment for them is 1 year. I am not sure if a medical practitioner also loses his or her licence if found guilty

Guys, it was a rhetorical question. I don't agree with the punishment at all.
And the Nirbhaya case has nothing to do the actual point of this topic.
The movie came in the 90s which means laws then were not strict.
I know the new law but wanted to know your opinion on the older law and the fairness of punishment.

The old law was no more adequate . Therefore it had to be revised and thereby we now have the new rape law, 2013. Nirbhaya case was the eye opener.

Before the things were terrible. Its still is a terrible thing but then cases would go on for years. Now a days depending on the case first track courts has been brought into practice. Did you know there ws nothing called marital rape in Indian legal system ? It was introduced some time before. What a pity!
