The journey from Kaun Sumo to Kahaan Sumo..Some musings!!

Honestly..when the IPK ending drama was on, i did not do anything. I never felt i had any right..many may not agree...but i felt what can I say...keeping a show or not is a medium's and/or creator's prerogative. There the case was, the actor was leaving and the makers decided to choose a diff track to carry on with the story. While I knew if they did, it would kill the essence of the story...I felt..it was their right to do as well..so i just simmered and simmered within myself largely but made peace finally.
Here with EDKV its a bit different..it was touted as a finite series...the least one would expect is to see the story reach its natural progression. Here none of the viewers are asking for a YRKKH from EDKV...we would have been happy if we were told...nay not told anything but the story had reached its logical conclusion in its normal course...even a month or so more would have been sufficient. So unless the actress is unable to shoot and PH not ready to have a replacement for such a short period .I don't see any need for this hasty end. I am not intending to question this aspect becos it has been done to death here and as a person respectful of personal choices in all walks of life, my personal opinion on the matter counts for nothing so I wish not to go there.

I appreciate the efforts of many of the members for trying to get the channel to accord a dignified end to this tale. However, at the end of it all...I feel it is all down to a cash register...that's the place a creative person feels out of place. Yesterday, despite how we see this issue of where to lay blame...for me reading Dilip Jha's note was moving for this reason.

Sony's major fault lies in tinkering with the finite concept where they ask the PH to elongate or reduce based on business considerations. The biggest mistake in my view is Sony did not or does not realise that this Prod house is not one of those prod houses that will add tracks that will take away largely from their narrative vision. The PH did try during the Preekar track and failed miserably. However, we will still see during the track, there was dragging but not a move away from the original concept, I don't know if Adi was intended or not as per original vision. So my point is Sony miscalculated in asking the PH to extend. The inexperience of this PH showed during this period...I don't even call it their fault. Anyone can add inane tracks but how many can tell a crisp tale?

The only issue I see with this prod house is not being able to rise to TV's silly demands...but I would rather they not meet such demands...I hope Dilip Jha is not discouraged by the experience. His tale was superb...yes he flattered to deceive but I know there was magic in this tale. Yesterday I happened to tune in a few mins earlier than 10 pm and saw the other show...I don't know much about the story there but I realised why their show is still on and why ours faces the boot. It has elements that the whole mass audience feeds into...But my point is I would rather our serial not have these elements...it is better our show faces the ignominy of a hurried end than ever fall prey to mass pedaled creativity that is on display everywhere around us. If Sony that claims not to fall for the nagins and dayaans does not appreciate or care for a niche audience...what indeed can be done?

However, I am glad that I got to see this fantastic talent in Namik...He made this Sumo centric tale all his own... He made this tale of a misogynist seem less harsh than it would have been if perhaps someone else had done it. His every inflection, measured emphasis, expression and nuance brought Shravan alive in every frame.

One thought...the writer in his need to keep the depth of this tale hidden and subtle...perhaps erred in one area. This tale began with Kaun Sumo? That was the question asking for an answer...Many of us lived this question and found our answers..and were looking for some more answers ..but unfortunately at a time when Kaun Sumo was to revealed, the writer was forced to ask Kahaan Sumo? Ironically the situation precipitated by a real crisis of Kahaan Nikita? Yet I can't help feeling bad for the writer that his tale of Kaun Sumo could not move centre stage...How much of this was his doing and how much circumstances are responsible...only he can introspect and answer.

Rekha👏⭐️👍🏼
Namik has been a revealation.
The tale of 'kaun Sumo'- the 16 year old orphaned, insensitive bully who grew up to be a refined, cultured, responsible woman after a dose of reality has been lost in translation, more so because of mercenary reality...

Interesting journey indeed.

I will keep my musings for a later date if you don't mind. I want to see how the CVs wrap up the story.

Not all wishes come true. Not all stories could be told the way they should have been.

PS: Atleast they brought back Pushkar - not in the physical sense. But characterwise. One who has faith in Sumo. One who is proud of Sumo :-)

Any project be it writing, tv serial shooting or even a non-artistic project requires a capability to pivot and merge. To be able to change directions depending on demands of the story. World is uncertain and that uncertainty has to be accounted for. So yes, writing is a stressful job. It is a highly intellectual exercise where distractions are plenty.

Sometimes the story dictates what the characters do and most other times it is the other way around. A good writer never loses sight of the big picture even if he is expanding or contracting part of the story. Focus is key in storytelling and the writer of this serial lost it a long time ago.

Having a person sick is no excuse to write shoddy episodes. Exploring backstories of leads and other important characters could have averted this catastrophe.

To not lose focus they could have shown Ramnath-Nirmala marriage. They touched upon it at a high level but the details of which could have been portrayed as a contrast to present day Suman-Shravan marriage. Yes TRPs would have shrunk and managing the story without FL is highly tough. But the audience would have understood. The budget used for the lavish PreeKar wedding could have been used to shoot more episodes with real story.

What the CVs went wrong is in understanding the pulse of the audience and the ability to pivot and merge.

True J...actually the musings should have been for a later date...i perhaps did not word my title well. My musings were more about a creative's person's inner voice lacking expression at a crucial juncture..

I sincerely hope the PH is not disheartened by all this..I hope they never ever have to compromise ever to tell their tale.

Actually, Pushkar was not in character only once and that was at his wedding when Adi announcement came...But i will put it down to his excitement at his own wedding. His not noticing Sumo and Shravan issue is his acceptance that their equation beggers description or understanding.

yesterday silly me saw some hope in that thwarted romance of Preeti-Pushkar. For me this was going to be the track that would take us to the safekeeper of secrets...

Hmmm...The writer's genius even in these moments give me hope that the writer will keep his spirit alive and will find the voice for his expression, if not now than maybe later. As Maya Angelou said, there is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you"

GD, largely agree...Yes. the inexperience of the first time Production house and team showed up no doubt..The dragging tracks were testimony to that.

Where I have a slight disagreement is on writing shoddy tracks during the illness. Look, the plotline is very thin. You have shot a marriage sequence. You have to get the girl and guy home...For how long can u stall that? Unless the writer held off the marriage scene in court, this was just not possible. Teer kaman se nikal gaya

Anyways...this postmortem can go on...we will all look at this in various ways...It could have been variations😆

Rekha,
Perfectly said. 👏Encapsulates our immeasurable sorrow not because we want longevity, simply because we have been denied the writer's story from a channel we had a lot of hopes from.

I have one request. Could you please email this to Sony?

Chick,

I emailed to DanishK a variation of this email a couple of days ago with the subject, Sony, Go for it, Show us you have the heart and vision to honour creativity.

I am not sure what it can achieve.. but For all its worth if someone wants to tag this post to twitter, they may please do it I have no issues. Am not on twitter... else i would have done it.

My post was actually an empathetic post for Dilip Jha. Writing a story is a deeply introspective process. When I read Dilip Jha's note yesterday, suddenly I was reminded of a John Green quote

"Writing is something you do alone, it's a profession for introverts who want to tell a story but don't want to make eye-contact while doing it" I don't know if Mr Jha is an introvert or not but I am completely enamored by his attempt at this story telling, warts and all.

Also when I read Namik's IG post, it touched a chord within me. The beauty of EDKV and what it has meant to us all who are almost joined to it in a symbiotic relationship of sorts was encapsulated in that post.
