When I saw that SC update I was taken aback to say the least! Here the fans are trying to save the show and she is least concerned for the fans or for the colleagues who are losing their jobs. She is more concerned about a negligible 2kg weight gain on her already trim frame and a pimple?

I mean come on? There is a limit and that was it. As soon as I saw that comment I knew the kind of backlash she will receive and I was not wrong.

I thought this was a rumour. I don't want the show to end. I don't mind a replacement of Sumo's character.

I had replied to a post yesterday on the same topic. It doesn't really matter since the ending is out and is going to be happy. All the scenes which would hav led to the happy ending is probably scripted fast or deleted. Saw the promo of Behadh which is having a show time of 9pm. So which show replaces EDKV?

Guess, the debate is still on at SonyTV. Yesterday's episode didn't seem to give any indication that the soap is ending!!! 😛 Else, Shravan would hav confessed and we could hav had some cosy moments between the leads. Shravan could hav realized that no matter how much he tries to shut himself from Sumo, it is next to impossible. By the time Ramnath confesses, the soap might also end and there would be no happy moments between the couple. If no other soap is around for replacement, it's best to give an extension of at least a month (so that the lead actress can finally decide whether she wants to stay or leave for health reasons) and the soap can complete the script on screen. That would be incredible...

Let's wait and watch,

I've been a regular viewer and there was such potential to the story! Shravan ofcourse was the character that made it for me with layers and complexity. It was he who aroused extreme reactions. It's sad that a story with strong characters and such potential had gone awry with knee-jerk and ambiguous writing probably prompted by actor non-availabilities. Personally, I'd be even okay with another actress since I never had an opportunity to get attached to the pair per se since scenes with them around a couple were so very few as much as I kept wishing to see them in better times within the same frame. Anyway, not too many good things around to watch if the curtains fall this week.

Prime time Hindi soaps face abrupt closure

Prime time Hindi soaps face abrupt closure
This could well turn out to be the year of prime time soaps (with 10 shows) on Hindi GECs facing abrupt closure for a multitude of reasons, some of them obscure, some predictable. The latest Hindi show to be axed is Ek Duje Ke Vaaste, which is slated to go off air (due to leading lady Nikita Dutta's ill-health) on October 7, despite angry fans reportedly storming the broadcaster's office and a virtual campaign (of pleading to producers/channel heads) to 'save' their show.

For broadcasters, the current fractured viewership, no thanks to a diverse viewing platter means the existence of a show depends on the numbers it can rake in. Producers/channels can no longer afford to give their stories time to settle, or pander to the whims of actors who want to take a break (for personal or professional reasons) and strike a connect with viewers, because remote control junkies are an impatient lot with too many options available on hand.

How do actors react when the shows they invest their emotions and time in come to a sudden close? Says Rhea Sharma, who was part of Kahani Hamari... Dil Dosti Deewanepan Ki that went off air in a month, "It came as a shock. It was unfair that the show didn't get a good time-frame to prove its mettle. There was no proper promotion on print, TV or social media about this show, so there was no buzz about it either." Vatsal Sheth, whose Rishton Ka Saudagar...Baazigar suddenly ended in an abrupt fashion admits, "We don't have any specific reasons as to why our show was pulled off air. Although it was supposed to be a finite series, it went off air earlier than expected. We assume low TRPs must have been the only reason why channel decided to shut the show."

For showmakers, it's not easy to let go of their creative offerings without some heartbreak, but the broadcaster has the final say about a soap's stint. JD Majethia, actor-producer shares, "In most cases, shows that open with low TRPs are unlikely to work later. Research and feedback on the new shows, make it easier for channels and makers to take a call on its survival. A show is given an extension only if a channel is not willing to incur fresh cost for starting a new show."

While loyal views might consider the channel's decision to pull the plug on their favourite show as arbitary, for Hindi GECs nothing can be more important than advertising revenue which can come in only when the show has impressive TRPs. In the end, it's a game of numbers and a money-spinning TRP-tripping show alone can continue to woo viewers.
