Chapter 1.
'I get that you're scared and that you've been hurt. But doing what is easy and safe is no way to live, and a life without passion and love is so far beneath what you deserve.'

"...promise me, you'll take care of her, Shravan." Nanaji was counting his last breathes. His weak hands held Shravan's and Suman's hand together.
"..Promise me you'll live your life, Suman." His voice was falling by every decibel and so was her heart. It was falling in the abyss of deep misery and pain.
Sometimes, when you love somebody so much, you don't even know how to function without them and Suman was finding it true for practically the third time around.
First, when his Mom passed away. She was eight then, but she did not remain and eight year old from heart ever since then. She grew up majorly in a matter of one cruel incident.
Her father, a hardcore alcoholic wouldn't care twice to know how his daughter was doing. Being the little child she was, she still loved him alot. As much as she could, atleast. Her Nanu became her support.
At the age of 22, she lost Arhaan. And, she knew it. She knew that she'd lost her only chance at love. How can a person give away their heart again to anybody else when it was already with somebody else. He was dead, but that never meant that Suman would stop loving him, right? He was his husband. And for once, she was grateful to her otherwise uncaring father, to marry her away to somebody who treated her with the worth she owned.
And now, four years later, she was standing at the same vicious end of life, bidding goodbye to her only support of life now, with extreme remorse in her heart.
When you lose people you love, you lose a little bit of your identity with them. And, with Suman, having gone through the same god damn pain all over again for three times, she knew this was the last blow to the straw of her own life and she was going to be lost.
But, what she couldn't see, didn't want, Nanu did. He knew that when he would leave his little girl, he'd leave behind a catastrophe for her. And that catastrophe would be her life. He had seen enough life and he knew it very well that lonliness eats you up like a slow disease taking away the life of person. He'd do anything but not let his beloved grandchild be alone. All she needed was one chance. A second chance to life.
"I promise." Shravan, without any hesitation agreed to Nanaji's demand.
Having had a pathetic family life, having had seen nothing but hatred, he had also met this man when he could have easily plunged into darkness. Knowingly or unknowingly, nanaji had saved him. Quite literally. Now was the time to pay him back and show reverence for everything he did for Shravan even though Nanaji owed him nothing.
Suman was at lack of words. More over, she was at lack of courage. She did not want to promise something that she was herself not confident about. She did not want to give fake solace to a dying soul, because that'd be so much worse for her comscience.
Nanaji wanted her to live her life, but she was so sure that after he breathed his last, she'd have no life in herself.
"I promise she will live her life really, really well. I promise whatever you have envisioned for her, I'd make sure everything is just ten times better than than, Nanaji." Shravan squeezed Nanaji's hand and gave his word, so effortlessly.
Suman could only watch him, how much of poise he had in him.
She had never had that.
She knew nothing of this man in front of her, and she was tied up with him. She couldn't say no to Nanaji for that. If she couldn't agree more, she couldn't even deny him. At all.
And so, when Nanu slowly got lulled in the arms of after life, there began a very new and unknown phase for these two.
Shravan and Suman.
They didn't even know, but life was just beginning for them. All over again.
