Part II
Where Suman came from everything was grey. They sky on a warm summer day. The lake,at the center of the town. Even the schools had a gloomy quality to it.
For her beauty only ever lied in the confines of her imagination. Some girls dreamt of the high life, money, power and fame. Others dreamt of prince charming sweeping them off their feet, drowning them in diamonds and riches.
All Suman had ever dreamt of... was coming here. Away from her non-existent home, from the system, from the foster parents who couldn't care less about her and from the pain that surrounded her following the death of her parents.
Just by walking down the halls of her new school she knew that things here would be different. The Orange leaves were a clear sign of that. Back home they never got to see Autumn. The leaves like her fortune would leave just before they had the chance to change into the vibrant orange she loved.
No more, she vowed. From now life would be different. It was time to take control of her destiny. She walked into her classroom looking at what was to be her future. She wondered if she would know the girls sitting here tomorrow, would they be her friends.
Back home she always chose to hang around guys, they were always easier. Boys didn't ask questions, they didn't get attached and they definitely didn't talk about make up or the latest gossip
"Class, let me introduce you to our new student, Suman Tiwari" her teacher announced breaking her out of her thoughts.
She gave them the biggest brightest smile she could muster trying to mask the butterflies fluttering around in her stomach. She looked around the room trying to memorize every single one of their faces when she felt the heat of a gaze following her wherever she looked. She turned her head quickly to catch her admirer red handed when she met the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen.
Suman got lost in those eyes. They reflected the light of the sun making it look almost metallic and cold, almost like an armour he dawned. The white surrounding his pupils added to his innocence. She had never seen anything like them. They were clear and cold all at the same time. Simply beautiful.
"Who should we put you next to" the teacher asked, talking to herself.
"How about him ?" Suman suggested boldly, still refusing to break eye contact with him.
The entire class erupted into whispers, clearly surprised by her outspoken nature. Everyone knew that Shravan didn't do friends, she would realize that soon enough, trying would be a complete waste of time.
"Ahh...The smartest boy in our class" the teacher spoke out in appreciation. "Im sure he would love to help you out throughout the term"
He broke eye contact for the first time and turned to glare at the teacher instead. Clearly she had caught him off guard. It didn't bother her she often had that on people.
"Mam, if its all the same to you, I don't think I want to take on this responsibility. I have quite a full plate this term. Maybe someone else can help her.. sorry"
He looked away looking almost guilty. Again...she had been rejected and this time by a boy she'd met only a few minutes ago. Tears almost filled her eyes as she felt herself falling back into the familiar cycle of hurt and self pity.
"Not this time Sumo.Time to change.Break the chain. Take Control" her inner monologue allowed her to put on a mask of indifference for the rest of the class and particularly for him to see. She then waited a few seconds for the teacher to say something and for the chatter around the classroom to settle down.
"In that case" Suman said , breaking through the embarrassing situation she was put in. "Can I get some time to pick someone else" she added with a smile pretending nothing affected her.
"Sure" the teacher added enthusiastically. "Take all the time you need "
Suman looked at the boy in front of her determined. The old Suman would accept his decision and wallow, thinking herself not good enough. The new Suman went after what she wanted and right now she wanted a seat with the smartest boy in class.
Hey guys!! Thank you for all the support 😊 It really motivated me to write this next part. Sorry if you found this chapter to be little repetitive, i just really wanted to provide you with a different perspective. Please tell me what you think and also who's perspective do you prefer Shravan or Suman... do tell 😛
