So without further ado, here goes...
This is where last chapter ended
That night, when Suman returned, she was filled in by Preeti about all that happened. She even spoke to Pushkar and was filled in with the happenings with greater detail. Her happiness knew no bounds. She had finally succeeded in uniting Nirmala and Shravan, ending their anguish for one another. The sense of victory within her made her happy. She even did a small victory dance. She wanted to talk to Nirmala but had to wait till next day morning as she had accompanied Maamiji and Mousi to a jagrata. That night she went to bed happily.
Chapter 6
The same night
On the other hand, Shravan was restless. He was ashamed at his behavior with Sumo and wanted to apologise. He felt disgusted for treating her badly, for not believing her, for saying things that hurt her. Without further delay, he headed to Tiwari Qilla. He did the customary knock that only they both were familiar with. But he got no answer. He knew that the women of the house were out along with is mom and the men were not as attentive to robbers and in this case, him. He then checked the time. It was 2 AM. He rolled his eyes for being dumb enough to expect her to open the door at this time. He turned to leave when suddenly the door opened. She appeared from behind the door.
"Shravan?" she said. "Sumo, come with me" saying this, he held her by her hand and took her to the garden. "I don't know how to say this but I have to. Thank you, for what you did for mom and I, words are not enough for me to express my gratitude to you. But thank you for all that you did. And, I am sorry for my behavior. I know what I said was unacceptable but please forgive me. I said it at a time when I didn't know the truth. I am sorry for having wronged you. I hope we can pick up from where we left" he said expectantly.
"First of all, you don't need to thank me for what I have done. I did it for you and Nirmala aunty. I wanted the two of you to be together. I know the pain of losing my parents. I know my parents are never coming back. But you still had a chance of having each other in your life. I was just a medium for bringing you both together. But I don't know if I can forgive you so easily, Shravan. You were my best friend, yet you thought I am trying to wrong Ramnath uncle. You never believed me. You went on to say so many things. Remember one thing Shravan, words once spoken can never be taken back. For the longest time, you held a grudge against me for what I did 10 years ago. In a way, I had to prove my friendship to you. Now, its your turn. Prove it to me that this won't happen again. Prove that I can trust you and that you wont hurt me again. The day you prove these things to me, I'll forgive you", saying this, she headed back to her room while Shravan looked on. He looked on with a smile. He was now determined to win his best friend back. Well, correction. His was determined to win his love back.
A week had passed. Shravan made several attempts to have a conversation with Suman but she avoided him. The times when he managed to speak to her, she answered in mono syllables. It bugged the hell out of him. She knew he felt bad about his behavior but she was not going to let him off easy.
A few more things had happened. Nirmala had started house hunting and was accompanied by Shravan. She had decided to shift base to Delhi to be closer to her son. They both were happy with this development. The process of house hunting allowed them to spend time with each other. Also, Shravan had distanced himself from Ramnath. He only went home to sleep. He spent the maximum time with Nirmala, Pushkar and Tiwaris' and the rest of his time was spent working.
On the other hand, Khosla had been after Suman to sell PCT to him. He was relentless in his pursuits. She was fed up of him and his antics. On some days, she received flowers on the others she received phone calls. Nothing could change her decision. Today was he landed up at PCT. This time she was going to give it right back to him, for he'll never dare to call her.
"This is the last time I am saying this. NO. I am not selling PCT to you. I have been very patient with you over the last few days. But not anymore. Just because I have been civil that doesn't mean that I am giving in to your demands. A person like you should not be a part of our society. So do yourself a favor and get lost. I'd rather dig my own grave then sell PCT to you" she roared.
Khosla was not happy about this. "You have messed with the wrong person Suman. All this while I had been dealing with you in a way that was socially acceptable. But know one thing, I am not one like you. I don't play fair. Now, you wait and watch. I'll show you what I am capable of. You have made the biggest mistake of your life" he said. His tone was menacing and his body language was indicative of the fact that he was serious about what he said. He turned around to leave and said, "You're warned." He then walked out of PCT, leaving a fuming Suman behind.
