Yes. Yes. Yes. And YES.
THANK YOU FOR THIS POST. HIT THE SPOT PERFECTLY.
Very clear analysis must say. I really agree with what you are saying. I used some of what I wrote from another post here, if you wish to read a more in-depth analysis of how I feel on this, do check it out. (
Shravan. A man of character.)First of all, I believe that he doesn't realize that she may in fact be in love him. Sure, he sees that she is visibly affected by him, but that could be because of just pure attraction. He doesn't see that she could possibly share the same feelings as he does for her. And I can understand why he wouldn't because when has he been given the chance to.
In ten years, they did not speak at all. No contact. She never tried getting in contact as did he.
When he came back, she casually dismissed everything as if nothing occurred, which rubbed him the wrong way, causing that resentment to finally come out.
But then after that was out, they both were able to get close to one another again through the events following that.
Mind games are the LAST thing Shravan would have for Suman.
The fact that he used his opportunity, the promise he had where she couldn't say no to what he asked of her for assurance of their friendship was more heartbreaking than anything. That moment you saw how vulnerable/insecure he is when it comes to Suman. How much she means to him, that he is not willing to take anything but complete assurance that she will be in his life. She means so much to him that he cannot take her rejection. He used this instance to guarantee that he would have this friendship that is so dear to him.
Two instance that were underplayed in the episodes but are so critical and that especially proves the immense value of Suman in his life are:
1)The terrace scene where he jokingly tells her that he needed his one friend that he trust to have his back defend him in front of the the people that said stupid things to him in London. Like that. His expressions there and the way he was just looking at her. It so beautiful. Because Suman is his only true friend. The person he used to rely on for support. He wants that friend back. He wants to have that dynamic back, and now when he sees and understands that this Sumo (a much more matured woman who will no longer take him and his feelings for granted) will return that friendship with equal respect.
2) In today's episode, I don't know if you realized but at the rickshaw scene when he tells her what he said to his family, and she in a very confused state says friends, the panic that was so clear in his expressions and body were heartbreaking. And then when he immediately brought up how she promised him she wouldn't deny his request, my heart just couldn't. Because she MEANS SO MUCH TO HIM that he used that one promise to make sure she wouldn't deny him their friendship. The fact that he loves her so much and can't handle not having her in his life that he is willing to suppress his feelings just so that he can still have her as a friend says it all.
And AWW I loved that Kuch kuch hota hain reference. It's such a valid point that you've raised. A life partner is another term for a good friend. How can you fall in love with someone without trust and respect. Two key characteristics of friendship. See love is not such a simple term. It combines so many relationships; friendship being one of them. Shravan and Suman are past love. Literally the concept of soulmates is so perfect for them. Like they make it seem like it's not this fairy-tallish concept because they truly are ek duke ke vaaste.
