Hey Everyone, I've been a silent follower of EDKV and enjoy reading all the amazing work and posts on this forum. I finally got the courage to put this up so it's long overdue. I hope you enjoy.
She never knew wind could be like this, cold and cruel, it's icy fingers stabbing at her exposed skin. It toyed with her hair, throwing it back and forth, and stung her crystalline eyes, the hollows under her eyes even more pronounced. Yet she stood out there for what seemed like eternity staring out into nothingness as the one scene kept playing in her head on endless loop. The rain was there too. The ominous clouds ganging up on her as torrents of rain washed down over her as a mocking reminder of what used to be. Her heart pounded away in her ears, threatening to break out of its cage yet all she could hear was sound of his merciless laughter and the laughter of those around him.
A call from her Nanu broke her out of her revery and she looked around for a minute, numb of her surroundings, and walked back to her room.
"Suman beta, kuch kalo." he called out.
"Nanu, tori dere mein", her lifeless voice came.
She took a breath and felt as if someone had closed in on her throat and she could not breathe. She walked to the foot of her bed and slid down, her knees pulled close to her chest. The hollow feeling increasing until it was deafening in the quiet indifference of the world. Looking around her eyes fell on the photo frame resting on the table beside her and for the first time since the incident she cried. She picked it up and cradled it to her chest, the tears pouring freely and screamed his name.
Her laugh had to be the most beautiful sound he'd heard in his life he decided. The way her lips would pull up revealing her ever so irresistible dimples and her eyes would sparkle with an innocence unknown to him. His chest would swell in pride every time he was the reason for it. Oh how he wished he could hear it again because right now he was engulfed by silent screams that continued to ring in his year when all was deathly quiet around him. Never had silence been so painful. He tried, oh he tried to stay angry at her. It would have been so much easier if he could hate her. Yet he knew he cared too much for that and the pain he'd given her was eating him away. Her tear stricken face came before his eyes before he punched the wall next to him, finally letting out the pent up screams. He decided that he couldn't handle it anymore and grabbing his car keys made his way his car. On the way there he couldn't get her face out of his head and tightened his grip on steering wheel.
The house was a quiet affair that night, all lights turned off but the one to her room. Deciding against ringing the doorbell as it would wake up the rest of the Tiwari Villa inhabitants he snuck in through the secret passage way he and Suman would take in their childhood. He made his way to her room and was surprised to find that it was unlocked. Pushing the door aside he walked in to be greeted with her fragile body compressed against itself against the bed frame. Her knees were pulled up with her head resting on them, almost lifeless except for the gentle sobs that wracked her body. He gave way against any and all inhibitions and placed a hand on her shoulder, gently calling out "Sumo?"
She slowly looked up with her slightly swollen and red eyes in disbelief at seeing him there. She slightly shook her head and managed to form a weak sentence. "Tum yaha kya kar rehe ho?" "Kuch kehne ko baki hai, jo party mein nahi kai paye?"
"No Sumo. Ab aur nahi. Main galat tha. Main tumse maafi mangne aaya hoon. I'm sorry" he said softly, the tears leaking from his eyes.
She searched his face for any sign of whether he spoke the truth and at seeing the tears run down his cheeks she reached up placing one and on his mouth and the other to wipe his tears. She didn't know if things would ever be the same between them but at this point she was too exhausted to care. The weight of the world was too heavy on her shoulders and for once she wanted to be selfish and take her much needed relief from the world, relief she'd only ever gotten from him. She looked into his eyes and as his hands came up around her she gave in. Her cheek rested against his chest and she could hear his heartbeat, a sound so achingly familiar yet still distant while he rested his chin on top of her head.
"Never again?", she whispered?
"Never again.", he agreed.
So there it is. My slightly extra dramatic take on the aftermath of the party. Any and all feedback is welcome as this is the first time I have ever written something like this. Thank you!
