A pang of discomfort hit in the middle of Shravan's chest right at the moment Suman had her eyes locked with him. The amount of pain there in her eyes had the breath knocked out of his lungs. As she looked away from him, the smirk of victory on his lips dissolved and took form into a tight line. He watched her tears, he watched her cry standing there in silence and he watched how broken she looked. He witnessed all that he had aimed to inflict upon her, this was his revenge.
But then, why couldn't he feel the happiness, the satisfaction of achieving what he desired.
And then, Suman was running, her shoulder hit his arm hard as she pushed past him and out of the party hall. Shravan spun around with his mouth hanging open, he heard one of her loud sobs before her retreating back disappeared from his sight.
----------------------------------------
Suman's running feet came to a stop by the street far away from the party venue. Her eyes were all blurry from tears with smudged khol running down her cheeks, and her feet ached from running so fast. But none of this mattered to her because the hurt and humiliation she felt inside felt like a bloody cyclone which was already done with it's destruction of her heart.
She knew she needed to hail a taxi and get home, it was getting very late at night. But she couldn't bring herself to do that, so she just stood there, heaving and sobbing lightly now looking like distress itself in human form.
That was how Pushkar found her. He touched her shoulder gently.
"Suman..." He called her name slowly, as if she would break if he talked louder than that.
"Suman..." He had to call her second time to get her out of her trance.
A still sobbing Suman looked up.
"Why would he do this to me?" Suman asked in a croaked tone.
Pushkar looked sad, he didn't answer, because he himself wasn't aware of the reason behind all this and the insanity that had possessed Shravan. It was right before Shravan and his gang had started this drama, he had sent Pushkar off outside the party hall to welcome some of his special guests, guests that never arrived. It was only when Pushkar heard some waiters gossiping among themselves about what drama had been taking place in the party did Pushkar came to know about what Sharavan and his worshipers did to Suman.
Pushkar gritted his teeth in anger, he couldn't believe this was the same Shravan, the one brother that he admired and looked up to so much.
Gently Pushkar held Suman by her shoulders who had gone eerily quiet now. He lead her to his car and sat her inside, while driving towards Suman's home to drop her off, he decided to confront Shravan about this.
