Small disclaimer- This is just my POV and I'm mostly sticking to the book version of Tywin rather than the show version. Also, no rotten tomatoes, please! 😆
For those who are fans of GoT would know exactly what I'm talking about. For those who don't watch the show or haven't read the books, please do read on, I'll try my best to explain. 😊
I have been comparing Rajan to Tywin in my mind a lot off lately, but last night's episode kind of did it for me!
I really, really wanted Rajan to go ahead and do a Dracarys on Vidyut. Or better, tie him up to a chair like he did last time and then leave some mice on him to do the rest- nothing less than what he deserves! 🤢 😡
The bathroom scene had me fuming! The look in his eyes had my skin crawl, like eww!
So yes, I did underestimate Rajan a little when I thought that he wasn't able to look through this Monster's bad intentions, thank you for proving me wrong!
Coming to the whole point behind my point, reason why I'm comparing the Bedi father-son duo to the Lannister father-son duo. I know, that there are quite a few striking differences between both of them, but I'll just talk about the similarities that I have witnessed...
Rajan and Tywin- First and most obvious similarity, they both are filthy rich. Their wealth however, doesn't make them cocky. They use their wealth to create a network that'd be useful to strengthen their hold on the city/town/kingdom they are a part of. They both use their wealth very smartly, bribe the right people, and have enough resources to escape the hands of the law, despite committing crimes (I'm considering Rajan's involvement in one or more deaths).
That hold of power is primary for both of these men. Then comes their fierce love towards their family. Now, I know that Rajan and Madhavi are nothing like Tywin and Joanna. The latter was a very normally functioning, happy couple, whereas RajAvi (my invented ship name for them 😆) are anything BUT normal. However, normal or not, Rajan is indeed only devoted to his wife. Let's be honest here, their conjugal life is almost nonexistent. Either Madhavi is busy passing out, drunk, or Rajan is busy twisting her arm or choke-slamming her. Despite all this, Rajan outright threw Chandani on the floor because he firmly believes that he belongs only and only to Madhavi. Yes, his way of loving is surely toxic, twisted, but it's love in his mind. He is not a cheater. Whatever fling he might have had with Chandani in the past, he never tried encashing on it, despite numerous provocations.
Then comes his love for his son. It's extreme! Past the point of sense. Tywin loved Jamie with all his heart but he wasn't very good with display of emotions. Rajan, on the other hand, never lets his tough exterior get the better of his tender heart, which is mostly reserved for Vyom. The scene where Vyom came Home after his discharge from hospital was a good example of that. He slapped him (rightly deserved) and then hugged him close to chest- it was one beautiful and underrated scene in the show! 😳
They both are control freaks! They both want to control their children's lives. In Tywin's case, he did what he did for the greater good, since both of his kids were so highly dysfunctional. Rajan, however, have some hidden motive in doing whatever he is doing but I highly doubt it has something to do with ruining Vyom's life.
Lastly, the brutality. Since we are still unaware of the past, I'm yet to see something that will make it certain as to how brutal Rajan could be. But if the bits and pieces are anything to go by, he can well be as brutal as Tywin. Tywin was a man feared throughout the Seven Kingdoms, mostly for what he did to House Reyne of Castamere (anyone interested can google it, or if I have the time, I'll reply in the comment section. 😆). Rajan is a man who has the same effect on the folks of Mussoorie. However, in Tywin's case, he did what he deemed was necessary, I'm yet to give my judgement on Rajan till I know exactly what he did and why.
Both Tywin and Rajan are forces to reckon with. While Rajan can go overboard in his anger in front of people, Tywin was a lot more calculated. But yeah, as father-figures (even as father-in-law figures), they're definitely worthy to root for and provide a rich chance of analysis. 😃
