@Sara, so here it goes (strictly my POV).
If you have ever followed Prateek Sharma's (the writer) work, you'd surely notice a pattern in which he writes a third angle in every love story.
JNDSD had Ravish. The FL, Vividha was married to him despite being in love with Atharv. It was a forced marriage, full on HDDCS type situation. Only, unlike in HDDCS or any typical EK soap, this girl never really accepted Ravish as her hubby, continued loving Atharv and helped him recover and continued her relationship with him. Of course, it was not a smooth ride, but she stuck to her choice and never let society dictate her feelings.
Beyhadh had Saanjh. She was the typical tomboy, Anjali type bestie to Arjun, her Rahul. Only unlike Ravish, Saanjh was anything BUT selfless. She tried her best to keep Arjun from loving Maya, she had numerous chances to confess her love for Arjun but she chose to be a loser. Even when Arjun professed his love for Maya and got married to her, she just wouldn't leave Arjun alone! She was, what Barney would describe as a Grade 3 clinger! 😡 Anyway, whatever happened afterwards was the result of poor writing and poorer character sketching, but the point is, in both the cases, there was a 3rd angle which somehow contributed to the story-telling.
In EDT's case, we all are Jon Snows when it comes to Shiv. 😆
But the point is, he too is a 3rd angle, since it has been pretty much established that VaNya were indeed a couple during their college days.
Now, he is neither a selfless person like Ravish, nor is he a Bestie of Shanny- she must've remembered if he was. Shiv, if nothing is hateful, like obsessively hateful towards Sharanya! His shaayaris are proof of that. He doesn't let her live or love in peace. The question is, WHY?
Sharanya definitely doesn't come across as the type of person who can kill someone. Forget about all that, how on earth is Shiv even fitting into this piece of puzzle? There are too many possibilities but Sharanya being in love with him seems to be a less likely one (but not altogether unlikely). So was it friendship which was mistaken as love? I have seen many such cases where men take girls being nice to them as some sort of signal that the girls are into them. Unrequited love can be a bitch, history is proof. Worse, if it results in death. It is unrequited with no chance of a fulfillment. Shiv is not back to claim his love. He seems more interested in hurting the girl who may have intentionally or unintentionally hurt him in the past. Maybe he doesn't know who killed him, maybe he misunderstood it to be Sharanya's work. Too many maybes, but this is the best I could come up with. 😳
