CHAPTER - 13
The morning was unusually pleasant when Viraf woke up under the blanket. The sun had risen by that time and there was a soothing atmosphere after yesterday's rain. He turned his face and found Chhavi sleeping peacefully, her face buried into his chest. His lips curved in a smile automatically. She was looking like a baby. There was a peaceful silence in the room as the sun rays hit random spots on her body. There wasn't a part of that body that he hadn't caressed or touched or loved, but yet he knew that there were a lot of things that he had to discover, there was still more that he had to learn and love about this girl who had totally changed his entire world.
He leaned over, leaving a butterfly kiss on her forehead before getting up. But as his lips touched her forehead, she went up slightly and opened her eyes gradually.
"Good morning." He said in a whisper.
"Morning." She smiled, looking at him.
Things had changed. Above all, she had changed. Being with him, being in love with him, was like finally realizing that she was indeed alive. There had been a curtain that had prevented the light to sweep in and shine, which was removed now and was making everything much brighter.
"What, say something!" He said softly while removing the strands of her hair, which were covering half of her face.
"Nothing," she said and turned on his side, "Hey! where is your mother?" She asked quite randomly.
He rose up on one elbow.
"Ma has gone to her elder son's house."
"Ohhh! You didn't tell me that you have an elder brother too..." She goggled her eyes.
"Because this is not an important matter," he replied casually.
"Ok, so it means that we both are the only living persons in the house?" A child like grin covered her lips.
"Isn't it interesting?" He winked.
"I wonder whether you sent her there by yourself or not?!" She asked with a pseudo curiosity.
"But why would I do that?" He frowned.
"You know!! To take advantage!" She said as normally as possible while suppressing a severe giggle.
"Ohhh!" He raised his eyebrows, "Advantage!, you are so clever! Tell me one thing, how did you guess that?" He asked with concentrated eyes.
"Are you serious..." She was abashed.
"Yes! I'm serious, actually I did that so that I could take full advantage of you!"
"Really?" She said almost teasing him.
"Really!" He said in a husky voice and leaned forward to kiss her.
"Wait!" She tried to stop him, "Viraf, I've to go home." She tried to get up by pushing him back, but he held her hands and said in a whisper.
"Go then! Who is stopping you?"
She could feel that unbearable rush of heat in her veins. His warm breath was almost fanning her. Their lips were an inch apart from each other, when the doorbell cried out, tearing the moment in a brutal way.
They both jumped up abruptly and a totally disappointed Viraf lay down beside her.
"WTH!" He said dejectedly. Chhavi giggled seeing his facial expression.
"What is so funny about it?"
"Accha Baba! Go and check at least who has come." She said and got up wrapping herself with the bed sheet, took her belongings from the corner of the bed and left for the washroom.
When she came back from the washroom Viraf was not in the room, she came outside. This was the first time she was here. It was quite big for two people, a touch of sheer nostalgia scattered in every nook and corner of the house. A sweet smell of freshly cooked food was floating in the air. She saw the kitchen at the end of the corridor. She reached there and saw Viraf was making something.
"What are you doing?" She asked while entering.
"Making breakfast for you..." He replied without turning back.
"So you can cook too?" She asked, raising her eyebrows. "Impressive," she stated, standing beside him.
"I have many such talents to make you impressed!" He smirked.
"You know any girl would fall for you."
"I know, you are the best example of that."
"Very funny," she made a face. "What are you making?" She tiptoed to see the half made pancakes on the griddle.
"Pancakes..."
"Wow, I love pancakes." she said, giving him a smile.
Viraf placed the two plates on the dining table and they sat facing each other. Chhavi took the fork and knife to cut the pancakes into pieces, but stopped randomly and asked.
"By the way who had come then?"
"Just regular milk and newspaper," he replied.
"Ohhh."
"Now eat quickly or else it'll get cold." He smiled.
She nodded.
They came to the outside of the house. It was time for her to go home at last. His bike was standing in-front of the gate. She stood for a moment and witnessed the usual bustling morning. One or two curious eyes were already set on her.
"So, you are finally going?!" Viraf asked, leaning over the bike.
Chhavi stepped forward.
"Is there any option left?" She said in a gloomy voice. "You know today is the perfect day and I think I should tell my parents about us." She added.
"I know it'll be tough." He held her hands.
"No, it wouldn't, because I love you, and you are the most important for me beyond everything." Chhavi said looking in his eyes.
And as soon as she completed her words, they felt a presence beside them. Viraf turned at once and saw the same boy from Savitri's office. The boy stood there facing Chhavi for a second and then turned at Viraf and said in a suppressed voice, "Madam wants to see you, she said it's very urgent." He again looked at Chhavi who was a little confused with the mention of 'Madam' for the first time.
"Anything else?" Viraf's firm voice startled him back and he shook his head.
"I'll meet her." The boy stared at Chhavi some more and then left.
"Who is this Madam?" Chhavi asked in a confused tone.
"She is a political personality, this area is in her control." He replied while giving her the extra helmet. She wore it and tried to fasten the chin strap, but after several tries she couldn't fix it properly. She looked at Viraf with a cute pout, he couldn't control his smile seeing her expression and fixed the strap, when her soft and tensed voice rose.
"Viraf, why she wants to meet you?"
"Hey! It's nothing serious, actually she has many issues with our locality so it must be for this..." He tapped her face gently.
"Should we start?"
Chhavi nodded.
The door of their flat was wide open. She frowned because she sensed that something very bad had happened. She entered gradually and saw her mother sat there with a pale face and her father was standing beside the window.
"What happened?" She asked almost in a dried tone.
Her voice created a mild excitement in the room. Urmila looked at her and then looked towards the front.
Chhavi didn't notice that there was another person present at the room too.
"Hi Chhavi, how are you?"
She turned at once to the direction from where this greeting came and she felt as if her heart would stop beating.
