Chapter three

She was nervous...stepping into the cool interiors of the headquarters of Shekhawat industries for the first time...

The CEO was waiting for her at the lobby...A genial man, he had been handling the affairs of the group of companies for the last five years. Thara was welcomed affably, taken to the room once occupied by TS and given a brief over view of the business...The CEO noticed that his new boss was nervous though she was trying to hide it remarkably well and immediately proceeded to put her at ease...that matters were under control for the time being... that he was glad that she has started coming to office before happenings at the SM affected the business...that the only worry now was the serious dent left in the company's assets because of the fraud committed by...He checked himself in time seeing the fire burning in the eyes of the petite girl before him, assured her that he would do everything under his powers to set things right and rose to leave...

"Ek minute...Mishraji...mein chahthi hoon aap mere vakil se milein...voh abhi aathe hi honge"...Thara said, indicating that he should wait for a few minutes more. The CEO re-occupied the chair he had just vacated and waited somewhat uncomfortably...Something in her demeanour telling him that she was no push-over and meant business... Thankfully the lawyer made his entrance soon enough.

"Vakil saab...aap shuru keejiye"...said Thara. The lawyer obligingly took out legal looking papers from his brief case and started explaining...

...Mrityunjay Singh shekhawat had acquired some properties around Bhopal..( "using the money he swindled"...thought Mishraji...how shameful!" ) which naturally have passed on to Thara (Lucky her...rich widow..., was Mishraji's thought ...) and now she wants to dispose them off. Four havelis and few acres of prime property will be put up for sale by auction... proceeds of which will be invested into the business which will take care of the damage caused by the so called fraud...which incidentally the auditors and Finance Managers of the company had failed to ferret out in time ( Mishraji started squirming in his seat)...and the amount lying in the bank will be used to set up a charitable trust in the name of Mrityunjay's Dadu...for funding higher education of orphans... "Bahut acche vichaar hai Madam...stammered Mishraji...wanting by now just to escape to his comfortable office...

Over the next week, the newspapers gave due prominence to the commendable CSR efforts of the Shekhawat group...The new Chairperson had taken the steps influenced by the fact that her late husband grew up in an orphanage before being adopted by the Shekhawats...the reports speculated..

At Shekhawat mansion, Kalawati was fuming seeing the news reports...her hard earned properties auctioned off...her bank accounts emptied...She cursed the day when she thought of making those property papers in real...and bank accounts...to put the blame on Mrityunjay for the fraud...Who had thought that... that chit of a girl would use it to her advantage ???..."Apne jeet ki khushi mein sub kuch bhuladiya thu ne...ullu ki patti"...she cursed herself .Now she was not even able to blackmail Thara...ulta who usse blackmail kar rahi hai...kudkhushi kar jaane ki dhamki de rahi hai...Her hands were tied for the coming six months..."ab kare tho kya karein?...Sochne vaali baat hai"...Thara must be getting support from somewhere...must find out ...

She got up...made a few phone calls...and started waiting...like a large spider waiting for the prey to fly into her web...

Chapter four

The room was silent...except for the humming of the AC. Thara walked over to the one-way glass wall separating her cabin from the office space beyond. The staff were going about their daily work...

She knew they were curious about her...discussing her...analysing her capabilities... speculating on how long she will last before throwing in the towel ... She had caught snide remarks about her humble origins and lack of formal education in the corridors and women's room...That hadn't bothered her at all...Thara was a born fighter...she had endured more than her share of bakwas in the streets of Bhopal and was able to shake away the criticisms with the contempt they deserved...But Mishraji was not so tolerant...he had wanted to corner the culprits and give them a sound dressing down, but Thara had laughed it off. She had found a surprisingly staunch ally in him...Within a few days of interacting with her, he had shed his initial reservations and grown immensely fond of her. He was ever ready to explain complex business matters to her ...and stood behind her, guiding her on how to handle day to day issues ...

She walked back to her desk and sat down. It has been three weeks since the auctions, which had drawn tremendous response from buyers... They were able to recoup much more than the amount siphoned off by Rudra Prathap in the sale and the investors were happy with the capital infusion by the promoters...

"So far... so good"...thought Thara. RP was being hit were it hurt the most. He no more had a political career left ...Kala's illegal business deals were being targeted by the masked gang...and she ...Thara...had taken care of most of her worldly assets. Ofcourse...it was the leader's plan...But the battle was not over yet...Kalawati was now more dangerous than a wounded tigress. Thara had seen the madness in her eyes on the day when the news of the auctions broke...Yet she had not said anything to Thara...so out of character for her! Thara, who was so used to her ranting and raving, was left wondering why...

" Agar thum kalawathi ke jagah pe hoti tho kya karthi Thara bacchu?...Thara asked her reflection on the glass table top...".zahir hai...yeh pata karthi ki mere dushmanon ke sath kon mile hue hain...dushman ka madadgar kon hai... aur unka haatma karthi pahle..."

A terrible uneasiness grew in her mind... She was the number one in Kalawathi's hit list... what if RP finds out about her link with the masked gang? "No...can't allow that to happen"...Kalawati should never get wind of it...the masked gang and its leader were her only hope in this battle against evil...

The leader had not contacted her since their meeting at the temple. But Thara knew that he must have come to know of the success of the mission. She felt restless...badly feeling the need to warn him about Kalawati...to tell him to be careful...But how? She would have to go into the jungle... "aur har baar mandir jaane ka bahana nahi kar sakti"... Kala's spies could be tracking her every step ...also she had no definite information on Kala's plans...only a hunch...that Kala was surely up to something. "It would be unwise to take the risk now" ...she told herself...though without conviction.

In her adda, Kalawathi was furiously berating her minions. Three weeks...and no information about who was helping Thara. More than their failure, something else was rattling her...they seemed less afraid of her now...as if she had become less powerful...no more invincible in their eyes. The loss of deals and properties had done a lot of damage to her fearsome reputation. She knew it would be difficult to keep them around without money...but the sources had been cut off. Now she have to think fast and find a way to replenish her coffers...but her milch cow, the Shekhawat Industries was being ruled by a new queen.

"Tharaaa...bade hasin par nikal aaye hain na teri...tumhe dabake rakhna padega...varna mera kya hoga????" She sang, prancing around the room...her minions slinked away thanking their stars that Deedi saheb had spared them... "Koi tho hai uske peeche...varna us piddhi si ladki ki itni himmat kahan se atha ki who aisi chaal chal gayi...Theek hai...ghar ke bahar nahi sahi...magar ghar ke undher tho kuch surag milne chahiye.."

Chapter 5

The room resembled a battle scene...books scattered...clothes thrown out of the cupboard... even the bed was not spared... Thara froze at the door...shocked at the scene.

"God forbid...what if they had found the messages ..."

Her heart started racing ...the first impulse was to rush to the cupboard, to check the box...But she could sense RP standing behind her, watching her reaction, waiting to pounce! Thara carefully schooled her face to show indifference and turned away to call the servants over. "Jaldi se karma saaf kardena"...she told them and calmly walked downstairs, passing RP by on her way down.

Surprise and chagrin were written large on the demonic face...Thara became sure that he had not found the messages...or he would have torn her apart by now. She reached the kitchen and proceeded to make tea...all the while thanking her lucky stars. RP stalked away, throwing her a dark look full of loathing and she heard his door slam seconds later.

Thara waited for a good few minutes before deciding it was safe to go upstairs without making apparent her hurry. The servants had made the bed and were re-arranging the books on the shelf. The boxes on the top of the cup-board were still sitting there undisturbed!

" Bas rahne do...baki mein kar loongi...she told the servants who left obediently closing the door behind them. Thara immediately latched the door... and ran to the cupboard. Her clothes were strewn on the floor blocking the way. She impatiently gathered them up and placed them in a heap on the bed and went back. Climbing on the footstool she tried to take the box down and promptly dislodged another bigger one sitting on its side. With a loud thud, a book fell out and landed face down on the floor.

Thara took the box containing the messages and climbed down, absently picking up the book from the floor. She knew that it was not wise to put it off any longer...the messages needed to be burned now...

She sat on the bed with the book and box on her lap and took out the pieces of red paper...wanting to glance at the beautiful writings once more and felt an odd pang ... as if she was going to part with something precious. The messages, however short and curt, had given her a strange kind of solace... like someone was reaching out to her through them...telling her she was not alone...

Tears started flowing...and Thara angrily wiped them off. It was ridiculous to feel so emotional about the messages...she told herself. Blind luck had sided her today...but it may not the next time...and she did not want to put their plan in jeopardy by giving away her secret to RP. In haste she stood up...and the book slid from her lap to the floor.

Uffo,...grumbled Thara, picking it up again...and froze, realising what it was...Mrityunjay's notebook...in which he used to jot down his shayari...He must have put it in the box before leaving...storing it away like his clothes. Her knees went weak and Thara sank back into the bed.

Her heart was beating in her throat...like some thing momentous was about to happen...With trembling hands, she opened the book to stare at her dead husband's writings... without taking in their meaning. The letters were beautifully formed...as if he had drawn them on the paper...! Disbelieving eyes moved from the pages of the book to the messages still clutched in her hand...She kept both on the bed ...side by side.

Identical letters jumped at her...the world outside had fallen silent...she could hear only the loud beat of her heart. The pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in her mind...The familiarity of his touch...his reluctance to speak aloud in her presence... Oh...dear God...how could she have been so blind?...or was she? Her heart had recognised him long back...hadn't it?... wasn't that why she had described Mriyunjay while sketch of the leader was being made?...But why he hadn't revealed himself to her yet...why didn't baba give her any clue?

There would be time for clarifications later on...thought Thara. After their goal was achieved...till then...let the game of hide and seek continue...She was not going to give him any inkling that she had recognised him...that would distract them from their goal...she did not want that to happen...and he would not want that too...

She smiled...getting up again and proceeding to burn the messsges one by one in candle flame...her moti had finally found her again...and this time it was hers to keep...

( Ok guys...this is how my heroine got her pearl...I hope her on- screen twin will also get hers soon...eagerly waiting to see how that saga will unfold...signing off... bye.. Pl tell me if u like it)
