After the initial disappointment of last night's episode which I thought was a bit hurried in places, I watched it again, not once, not twice, but three times over and I must admit I really liked what I saw. I'll only discuss the scenes in which Mriara were there as only they matter to me ( and to many here , if not all, I guess). As I started penning down my thoughts I realised that I had so much to say that I had to break it into two parts so that it does not get too boring. Here is the first part which discusses the bidai and the funny and romantic parts of the suhaag raat.
When Aradhana tells MJ that she will pray that all his desires are fulfilled, he sweetly tells her that as he has already got his Tara, there is no other desire he has. He knows that Tara will fulfil all his desires. Tara too tells her that she does not want anything from God as she has got her mom as well as her husband. She no longer has to choose one over the other. Aradhana is proud that her daughter is leaving with a man who loves her daughter very much, who is not only a good son but also a good son-in-law. If and when MJ has to return to jail, he has to keep this in mind and never give up hope. He has to retain his will to live for the three souls who love him dearly - his mother-in-law, his father and most importantly his wife, who will fight with the lord of death himself to save her husband from all evil and harm. No more sacrificing for unworthy people.
The scene dealing with MJ's cell which has Radha's SMS is an interesting one. Inspite of so many people passing on the forgotten cell to its owner, he drops it just as he helps Tara get into the doli. The way I saw it was that MJ's connections with Radha get severed the minute Tara enters his life for good - Radha out and Tara in.
Coming to the suhaag raat scene, I'll break this into the funny part, the romantic part, the bickering part and the emotional part. I'll cover the funny and romantic parts in this section.
First, let me discuss the funny part. Meethi and Vasu are teasing Tara as usual and Tara is enjoying every minute of it. With Tara's entry into his life, the man who is normally serious and grim lets down his guard and jokes with his sister and sister-in-law, testing their patience. I loved the way he hugged them both, giving them his 'magical hug' instead of greasing their palms. For love is something he has in abundance whereas money must be his father's, since we haven't seen him working for quite a while now. Tara will have none of it. Her sisters-in-law deserve more than a bear hug from her adial hubby. After all they are the eternal cupids who keep throwing these two love birds in each other's company. Once the two girls were out of the way, she gets down to business - quickly shutting and latching the door, pushing aside a bemused hubby, jumping on to the bed and pulling the ghunghat over her face.
Her hubby watches in amusement at this one-of-a-kind bride of his, even as she goads him to uncover her face. When he obliges she makes a funny face to lighten him up further. Her 'drop dead' looks gets MJ to mime it by 'fainting' on the bed. On being prompted to get up, he leans against her, making her complain about his weight. Tara, get ready to bear much more than the weight of his back once the two of you get going.
The romantic part then begins with MJ trying to return her pearl to her, saying he has already got his. Not so fast, lover boy. You may have to be satisfied with this little pearl when you are forced to part from your real pearl. So Tara lets him keep it for the difficult times ahead. When she complains of the weight of her jewellery he readily volunteers to get her out of them. Tara initially agrees thinking four hands were better than two in removing the ornaments which were weighing her down. Little did she expect the strong reaction of her body to his large hands which grazed her cheeks as he helped her out of her earrings.
In a valiant effort to stop her heart from beating rapidly, she asked him to stop as he reached for her head gear, saying she knows what he is up to. She was afraid that he may envelop her in his arms as he reaches around her head. He can see the effect he has on her but he pretends to be unaware of it and asks her innocently what she knows about him. She tries to distract him by extending her arms and asking him to help her off her bangles instead. Bemused, he agrees to do so, for after all what are husbands for, especially on a wedding night. She winces when he pulls out her bangles with force. Tara, your man is strong and rough. Get used to it.
With the gold barriers off, MJ gets to see his bride in her natural beauty and turns into a poet. He proceeds to huskily recite the most romantic lines to his better half. "What is before me is so breathtakingly beautiful that I fear that this moment will be wasted in just gazing at it. What is before me is so delicate that I am worried that it might not be able to endure my touch. What is before me is silent yet its silence says so many things. Alas the truth is that my heart is filled with so much noise which it has awakened that I am unable to hear anything."
The poet then leans towards her ear and tenderly caresses her cheek. In trying to avert his hot breath which is now heating up her body, she turns her face away from him only to have his palm graze her soft lips, making her panic and rush to the window to get some fresh air and calm her senses which were going wild in the proximity of her hot and handsome husband. The man is a bit confused as he follows her. As she pensively holds her mangalsutra for support, he asks her gently whether he did anything wrong. He had no intention of scaring her off on their first night together as man and wife. First she assures him he did nothing wrong but then hastens to add that yes, he did indeed make a mistake - in fact, a big mistake. When he prods her as to what is his mistake, she is left fumbling for words. She could not admit to him that he is invading her senses and driving her insane with desire. So she manages to divert his attention to the fact that he had only cut his hair and not his beard as she asked him to.
