What if...?

What if MJ had really committed the crime? What if MJ had really raped and murdered someone? Or what if it's not made so clear in the beginning while setting up the plot that MJ may not be the culprit. What if it had been pushed till the last, the fact that he is an innocent man taking the rap for someone else?

So many questions.

Let's presume, a chief protagonist who is "really" a rapist and murderer?
Does he have a right to wish for a second life? A second chance? Is it possible that he can love someone and want to be with that one person or is it like once a rapist, always a rapist; once a murderer, always a murderer. Is it like rapists and murderers are incapable of any love and commitment? The verdict is out there...

Now as to the other matter, what if it was not revealed till the absolute end to us as viewers that MJ is innocent? What if they continued to setup and build the plot in such a manner to reiterate in our minds the image of MJ's culpability? What if they made us believe until the ultimate end that MJ may not be innocent (and only made it evident in the end that he is in fact, innocent)? What if they had persisted in the concept? Who would've supported MJ's actions? Or even MJ?

Have your say...

Postscript:

if we really had the "DARK KNIGHT" till the end and only in the last few episodes it's unveiled to us that he is innocent or they throw in clues in the absolute end only as to his innocence...what an epic serial it'd have been, really, a cut from the rest of the clutter...but oh, well!

Guess, Indian audience are not ready for a DARK KNIGHT or otherwise the forum would have been full of "MJ is blah blah blah" - so guess, it was important to not disgust the audience and establish it in the beginning itself that he is innocent

Disclaimer: This is JUST FROM A STORY PERSPECTIVE and has NOTHING TO DO with REALITY or my PERSONAL BELIEFS - so kindly, keep the moral policing and rhetoric down and stop making it personal. It is not about our personal views here.

Yes Shai, but just imagine, if they'd left us to believe in his culpability till the very end, the forum'd have been explosive what with debates as to his beastliness VS. his innocence. WE'd have a had field day and I believe, it'd have been a great plot too...

Imagine, what if:

- they'd have thrown in just a few clues to his innocence
- they'd have left some large loopholes that make us believe that he may be a criminal
- and then bham, one fine day, we find out in a huge mahaepisode, with a major trigger that MJ is INNOCENT as a LAMB

Well friends to be honest, when I used to do theatre, I loved penning down characters of male protagonists as grey or more humane and less idealistic!
The show would have had a different colour altogether, if they had shown Mrityunjay as not guilty right from start and build the plot as they progressed.
But the Main apna antim sanskaar kar chukka hoon thing revealed it all. Plus the case where Nirmala already has a prejudice for him and still wants him to make a sacrifice.
If the show would have been such that it would not have been revealed that Mrityunjay is adopted and also the behavior of RP and Nimmo would have been very soft for him (in sense of gratitude for his sacrifice which is disclosed later) it would have been difficult to judge initially that he is actually not the culprit and things revealed later to prove his innocence.

Wow! U a theatre person Niha, how wonderful!

- It's true that had that not given us leading hints as to his innocence,
- and had he been presumed guilty until say the very end or the absolute middle
- and had we not been clued in as to his innocence in the early days,
- or has there been no sympathy factors in his favor in the earlier days,

we'd not have connected with MJ in the same manner as we do, today.

A really interesting and thought provoking post! :)
I think our impression and connectivity with MJ's character would have been totally different and possibly negative if he had in fact been a murderer and rapist. We were so angry at him when he used to manhandle Tara to force her to leave so you can only imagine how people would react to a Hindi serial male lead being a heinous criminal. However, a story about a rapist/murderer falling in love would make such an amazing plot and I would definitely watch that show because we would to see life through the eyes of a criminal.
