^^^ As a kid, I got it from a whole bunch of Amar Chitra Kathas (Krishna, Krishna & Jarasandha, Krishna & Rukmini, Krishna & Sishupala, Swayamtaka Gem, Krishna & the False Vasudeva, Krishna & Narakasura, as well as the major Mahabharat collection ACKs). Then, as I grew up, I read quite a bit of other material (but not the scriptures in their original directly - I'm not aware of most of them being available in English, which for me is needed), like the Mahabharat (mahabharatonline.com) and other online sources like Sushma Gupta on oocities.org (formerly on geocities).
A lot of questions I had on the Ramayan that got raised during the AS Ramayan serial got answered by others more knowledgable then me - many of whom had read the original texts. Incidentally, that's why the Doubts & Discussions threads exist in the Mytho Masti forum, the Ramayan forum and in this forum - have learnt a lot in all 3.
For others, I guess mileages may vary
P.S. Go easy on the CAPS, dear!

In Matsya avatar, when Vishnu took the form of a horned fish (not a swordfish), he needed a snake to tie him to the boat that saved the saptarshis. Here, he could have used Sesh nag - his serpantine throne - as a chain, but didn't. Instead he used Vasuki.
In Kurma avatar, he married Lakshmi in his original form, and so that was where Lakshmi entered. But here too, in the samudra manthan, he again used Vasuki, rather than Sesha-nag as the rope used to rotate the mountain.
In Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana and Parashurama avatars, neither Lakshmi nor Sesha nag went w/ him. Granted, Varaha and Narasimha were really brief, and so they were not needed, and besides, there was no role for Lakshmi there. But Sesha Nag could have accompanied him as a warrior, but didn't.
In Vamana avatar, I think Vishnu was there for a while - don't think he grew overnight. There would have been no role for Sesha Nag here, but Lakshmi didn't incarnate to be Vamana's wife.
In Parashuram avatar, Vishnu took that form (and left it according to some accounts after Parashuram's encounter w/ Rama). Parashuram lived throughout the Treta and Dwapar Yugas. Despite that, Lakshmi didn't incarnate to marry him, and Sesha Nag didn't incarnate to be his companion.
In Rama avatar, Valmiki doesn't claim that Lakshman is Sesha-nag: by that account, Lakshman is part of Vishnu himself, as is Bharat & Shatrughan. It's in Adhyatma that Lakshman is Sesha Nag.
In Kalki Avatar, Lakshmi is supposed to incarnate as Ramaa and marry him, but Sesha Nag isn't scheduled to come w/ him.

I differ on your Kalki Avataar Vrish...Kalki will at the fag end of Kaliyuga..and he will be riding on white horse..and Shesh or Anant will be in form of Horse...I hope most of members have seen the picture of Kalki..riding on horse with a huge sword in his hand...It is mentioned in Srimad Bhagwad in the 12th and Last chapter of Kaliyuga..
The other thing which i was going thru in this thread, I want to clarify there are 8 chiranjeevi...they are immortals..one of them is Parshuram..the others are..
Hanuman.
Kripacharya.
Vibhishan
Raja Bali
Ved Vyas
Ashwathama
Parshuram
Markandeya...
These are 8 Immortals..😊

That's pretty different from the role Balaram played. In Krishna's avatar, Sesha was Balaram, and if one goes by the Adhyatma accounts, it was Lakshman in Rama's avatar. In neither of these cases was Sesha their vehicles, but here, he's his horse?

Vrish we all know who Shesha is?..Lord Vishnu rest on Snake bed..i.e Shesha..so why cant he come in form of Horse?..😊 Here it is the proof kalki and his horse known as Devadutta from Srimad Bhagwad Puran..
17) The spiritual master of all the moving and nonmoving beings, Lord Vishnu, the Controller of All, will for the protection of the religion and the saintly put an end to the fruitive activities and the [repeatedly] being born. (18) In the village of S'ambhala Lord Kalki will appear in the home of the great soul, the brahmin Vishnuyas' ['the glory of Vishnu'].(19-20) Mounting His swift horse Devadatta, the Lord of the Universe endowed with His sword, transcendental qualities and the eight mystic opulences [siddhis], will subdue the ones who turned away from the holy. On His horse moving with speed about the earth He, unrivaled in His splendor, will slaughter the thieves disguised in the garb of kings.(21) When all the robbers have been killed, the minds of all the citizens and the people living in the countryside will clear up being touched by the breeze which carries the most sacred fragrance of the [with sandalwood paste] decorated body of Lord Vsudeva. (22) When Vsudeva, the Supreme Lord, is situated in their hearts in His transcendental form of goodness, the culture of their progeny will flourish as never before.(23) When the Supreme Lord Kalki, the Lord and Master of Dharma, incarnates, will Satya-yuga and the creation of progeny in the mode of goodness begin [see yuga].(24) When the moon and the sun together with Jupiter [Bhrihaspat] in the same constellation [of Karkatha or Cancer] enter the lunar mansion of Tishy [or Pushy, 3 20 to 16 40 see zodiac] that very moment Satya-yuga - or Krita - will begin.

Reason for Radhaji and Rukminiji's avatar :
Lakshmi ji was cursed that she will marry some1 else in dwapar yuga as Radha. So she took Rukmini avtar to marry Krishna.
N actually she never got married to real ayaan ghosh /abhimanyu. Krishna is known for his leela's , he married or were just engaged to Radhaji in Aryaan roop.
Its just how Shi Vishnu ji can Love or marry anyother then Lakshmiji... Vishnu or Lakshmi in any form or avatar will lv or marry eachother.
Same with Shiva, He first married Sati and then Parvati

Yes, Kalki will born at the end of kalyug riding a house i.e. Shesh

Markandeya most certainly yes. Prahalada was never a Chiranjeevi. he only had a boon that after his time, he will go straight to Vaikunta. As far as Markandeya is concerned, his mother had to chose between a dud of a son who will live long or a very bright one who will die on his 16th birthday and she chose the latter. So when he saw his mom crying and depressed as his 16th birthday approached and knew the reaon, Markandeya undertook severe penance and prayed to Lord Shiva. Who was so pleased that he granted him the chiranjeevi boon.

And set Raj thanks for the info.
Dwarkadessh - to answer your question, like Vrish, I too read most of them in Amar chitra katha and the curiosity grew. So i read quite a few book. if interested please read C. Rajagopalachari's Raayan and Mahabharata. Its damn good.
And in my college I had plenty of access to various versions of these epics. To boot, my paternal grand mom who introduced me to books and is a treasure house of knowledge gave me a lot of info on these. She has infact read so much on these subjects, when I dount, I normally turn to her.
Still read up on these when ever I get a new book to lay my hands on.

Markandeya's prayer to Lord Shiva, which says, "Chandrashekhar ma rakshayati kim karishyati vai yama", tells so well that he can not be harmed by Yama.
