Hi Friends,
Here is my take on Arjun...His childhood still remains a mystery. We only know that he was very close to Nandini and he thinks Samrat is responsible for her death. All he knows about Nandini-Samrat was from a child's perspective. Given how close he was with Nandini, we can see that his parents were out of picture. She must have been a parent figure to him. Often children idolize their parents, not wanting or facing the fact that they are human beings too. So, we can only guess that what Arjun understood as a child was half-truth or may be even imagined. Think, if you will, what would have happened to him, when an inebriated Nandini cursed her life or Samrat in fits of anger. No matter what the reality is, Arjun would see THAT as his truth. So, he grows up, building this idea of revenge on Samrat. That must have been the only reason for his existence, which motivated him to become who he is now. How intense must have been his focus on Samrat to hold this grudge for 15 years and how much of an impact this Nandini would have had on him! Then, I think, it is perfectly safe to assume that he grew up lonely, unable to have or to express any affection, unable to receive any affection in return. All his interaction revolve around this revenge, all his actions revolve around this revenge. Revenge is his life. That kind of single minded focus leaves a person's soul rotten. All his talks are manipulative, all his moves are calculated. He does not understand the strain it is causing to his humanity. What he really did not account for was Radhika, amidst all his schemes. She is a person who knows he is causing her friend pain deliberately, and it is all some kind of plan. She lets him know that he is wrong, and yet, she does not judge him. She expects him to be something which he is not right now, a human being capable of compassion. Expectation means, she knows he is capable of it, that he can change, that there is something redeemable in him. And THAT expectation is what scares him of.At first Radhika was just a random person standing in his way and needed to be removed. But now it is becoming personal. Now she is affecting him, asking him questions, making him question himself.Who is Arjun without the revenge? What is he without this revenge? What is the meaning of his life, if not revenge? What will be his identity without this revenge? Not an easy thing, to face these questions and THAT is what Arjun has to discover.LoveMD
