I think with Indian television they really want to be able to explore shows like Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon (Arnav and Khushi) to Rangrasiya (Rudra and Paro), to name a few, type story; the story that is not the regular saas-bahu humdrum we get over the board with all channels, we know that the content on another level that speaks to modern culture does not bode well with the TRP aunties, its frowned upon due to the way they expect society to float.
As an Indian girl living in this modern world, I can truly say that I relate to Sam in Manmarzian, I got my act together professionally but truly suck on a personal level, I believe that silence ensures privacy and watching Sam tell Arjun that what happened between her and Neil stays between them, is so admirable, because that's how most of us are now in today's age, nobody has the right to know what is going on in our life unless we want them to know.
I haven't connected with Radhika, she is as annoying as Sandhya and Suhani, but watching her Queen' style scene, fighting for her luggage, I enjoyed that, but just for that moment.
Initially while watching Samaira I wondered why can they just not show a story about her, why do they have to throw Radhika in our face, does every girl in every show have to be naive and fresh and struggling, (the stereotypical small town girl syndrome they seem to have) I want to watch something real and Sam personifies reality for me.
I truly connect to her character.
But now I get it, I think Star Plus has finally learnt its lesson, they are giving both audience genres what they each want in this 1 show, Manmarzian; SamArj for the Nayi Soch "ie. Us the New Age thinkers" and Radhika and Neil for those AblaNari aunties, 2 birds 1 stone --- show ground breaking content and at the same time rake in the TRPs.
