Anuj Saxena gets cold feet

So, Jas Arora will replace him in Aruna Irani's Doli Saja Ke...

Aruna Irani's upcoming show Doli Saja Ke... is already witnessing the malaise of musical chairs that is oh-so-Tellywood. The show it seems has been delayed due to financial and scripting problems. As a result, Anuj Saxena who was part of the Doli... brigade from its inception chose to opt out. Date hassles, as usual is what he claims. Yet, insiders say that the actor lost interest in the project since it is taking too much time to take off. The production house was in quite a quandary trying to get things in order and after a long search, they've found Jas Arora.

Jas Arora has been based out of Singapore for a long time and the actor is very excited to make a comeback in Indian television. When contacted, the actor refused to divulge any details about the ongoing deal with Aruna Irani production house.

On probing further, the actor said, "I had a meeting with Arunaji and she has offered me not one but two shows. The kind of roles she has offered me are very exciting. I am keen on shifting my base to India again as things are very lucrative over here. And when so many people are interested in taking me in their projects, why should I refuse?"

Doli Saja Ke... is a family saga about the trials and tribulations of a father and his daughter, having resemblance to Yash Chopra's classic Lamhe. It's the story of a girl who is considered unlucky.

The story takes off after the wife dies giving birth and the father becomes indifferent to the offspring. The serial has actors like Surbhi Tiwari, Barkha Bisht, Manoj Bidvvai, Arzoo Govitriker and others.

Jas has no issues playing father to Barkha. "I have already played a father in Prithviraj Chauhaan. I have not met Barkha yet; but I am game for any good role," he adds.

Anuj to leave Doli Sajake Rakhana

The show, which is produced by Aroona Irani, was ready to launch on the 22 January but the production house postponed launching it as the channel wasn't giving the show enough publicity.

Sahara wanted to launch two shows at the same time and hence the issue of promotion came up. Now it is said that the serial will be officially launched on the 30 April.

Aroona Irani initially admitted that Anuj had opted out of the show saying: "Anuj has shot for 26 episodes so far. We had a meeting and he told me that he is busy with his other work. It was difficult for us and him to manage with his work commitments in other serials."

Barely an hour later Aroona later denied that Anuj had left her serial saying: "Who told you this news? We had no meeting with him. I'm out of town right now. We'll have meeting and then we'll announce it."

Anuj says: "I opted out of the show by choice. Currently I am too busy. My film on the floor and I have some new projects that I am developing under my production house Maverick. Then of course there is Elder (pharmacy company). Maybe a few months down the line something interesting will come along and I might take it up. My role in Doli Sajake Rakhana was as Barkha Bisht's father who has two wives. I have no idea who will replace me; I have left because of lack of time, nothing else."

Anuj is producing the film Dulha Mil Gaya which features Fardeen Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Sushmita Sen. He is also producing a show based on a German serial. The show will feature Mihir Mishra and many others.

Aroona Irani is presently busy in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. Her earlier shows include Vaidehi, Des Main Nikala Hoga Chand and Rabba Ishq Na Hove.

Though Aroona Irani's Vaidehi on Sony has had a lukewarm response, the actress-producer has begun work on her next show, Doli Saja Ke, for SaharaOne. The shoot for the soap is on at Jaipan Studios, Goregaon.

Ensemble cast
The star-studded cast includes Anuj Saxena, Surbhi Tiwari, Barkha Bisht, Amit Sareen, Manoj Bidvvai, Arzoo Govitrikar, Jaya Mathur, Karishma Randheva, Manisha Kanojia and Manish Khanna.

Doli Saja Ke is described as a family saga about the trials and tribulations of a father and daughter. Saxena plays the role of a husband who loses his wife (Surbhi Tiwari) during childbirth. The daughter (Barkha Bisht), is considered unlucky and has to live with the curse of being responsible for her mother's death. Jaya Mathur essays the role of the second wife.

Says Saxena, who began shooting yesterday, "I am doing Aroona Irani's show as it is a good production house and also because I wanted to work with Aroonaji, whom I admire and respect a lot. Surbhi is playing my wife in the show and coincidentally, is also doing a role in my production house Maverick's new show, Kulvaddhu, for Sony."

Adds Tiwari, "Aroonaji had given me a choice of roles to select from. But as I am already committed to two dailies, Kulvaddhu for Sony and Hari Mirchi Lal Mirchi for DD, it would be difficult to manage three dailies. So I opted to play the role of the girl's mother who dies."

Not her dad's fav
Saxena, who did a cameo in the SaharaOne soap Solhah Singarr, was earlier seen on the channel in Asha Parekh's show Kuuch Pal Saath Tumhara and Raja Mukerji's Prratima.

It is learnt that Tiwari will die in the show after the initial episodes during childbirth. The father detests the daughter because of this. Doli Saja Ke is slated to air in the 9.30 pm slot by next month.

Incidentally, Irani was also slated to produce Dor starring Muskan Mihani for SAB, which never took off despite an elaborate shoot schedule.

Interview Shurbi Tewari

Surbhi Tiwari has done popular shows; Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, Kahiin Kissi Roz, and Bandhan, to name a few. Soon she will be seen in Kulvaddhu produced by Anuj Saxena's, Maverick. Although she's a sari-clad woman on screen, in real life she freaks out on western outfits. She speaks to Showbuzz Network about her shows...

What's so special about Kulvaddhu?
The most special thing is that is that I will be doing a show on Sony after a gap of five years. I had done Heena on Sony. But there is nothing really special about my character, Samyukta, in Kulvaddhu. I have done similar roles before.

How is it working in Doli Saja Ke?
I haven't started shooting for Doli Saja Ke because Anuj Saxena and my and dates are not matching. I've only done a test for my look and done a promo shoot. I am doing a cameo in this show although I was given a choice of other roles also. And yes, I'm playing my age. I am not playing anyone's mother (laughs).

Anuj Saxena is the producer of Kulvaddhu and you are playing his wife in another show. How do it feel?
It is an interesting co-incidence (laughs). It's also rare to see a producer who is an actor himself. I am playing Anuj Saxena's wife in it but I die in the show. However, I will keep appearing in flashbacks. I have yet to start shooting with Anuj Saxena.

Why did you leave Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki?
I was playing the role of Shilpa Bhabhi and was doing four dailies at that time. I was also playing the lead in Shagun and doing other roles as well. I had fainted on the sets so I had to reduce my workload. Hence I chose to quit Kahani ....

Didn't Balaji offer you any other role after that?
Some time back Balaji had approached me for a role in Karam Apna Apna. The money they were offering me was not acceptable to me. Balaji is the best production house in the country, that can't be denied. At the time of quitting Kahani ... they were willing to pay me what I was being paid for UTV's Shagun. However, I was forced to quit the show owing to health causes.

Is weight an issue with you?
Yes, weight is an issue. A lot of producers have told me that they would like to cast me in the lead role provided I lose weight. I'm doing older roles and getting older roles only because of my weight problem. Moreover, girls tend to look five year older when they wear make up and heavy clothes. I can't take any drastic step to lose weight as hormonal imbalance is the issue here.

What is your fitness funda?
I eat less oil and eat before eight. I run on the treadmill. Television artists have such hectic lifestyles that it becomes difficult to follow a strict fitness regime.

What about your personal life?
I am single and happy (laughs). Most of my time is taken up by work. But I'm happy to be single. I am not prepared for marriage at this stage of my life (laughs).

Who are your friends in the industry?
Juhi Parmar, Hussain and Tarun Khanna. I always message Hussain after watching Nach Baliye 2 whenever I have the time to watch it.

You've been Miss Mumbai for three consecutive years; 1998 to 2000. How's that possible?
There are different contests every year by different organisers. I participated in three different Miss Mumbai contests and won all of them (laughs).

What is people's reaction when they see you in western outfits in real life?
On-screen I have done Saas-Bahu shows and always did Sari clad roles but in real life I wear western clothes and people are shocked to see that. People feel that I look very different off-screen. I love to wear minis too.

Do you enjoy doing Saas-Bahu Shows?
Saas-Bahu shows still rocks although reality shows like 'Big Boss' are interesting. Saas-Bahu shows are still in so why should I not do them.

How about films?
I surely want to act in films but may be after a year. I will try to get into films then. When you have too much work on hand, you don't get time to go looking for new work. Right now, I am too focused on my television shows.

How would you want to see yourself a few years from now?
Happy and doing good shows on television. Maybe a few good films too (smiles).

Anuj Opts Out!!

Anuj Saxena, who essayed the character of male lead in ' Kkusum' and ' Rishto Ki Dor', has decided to opt out of Aroona Irani's upcoming show ' Doli Saja Ke Rakhna' due to inordinate delay in the shooting. Anuj has already shot for ten episodes but now a replacement actor for his role is being searched because the show is scheduled to go on air in the end of April.

As Anuj explains, ' I opted out of ' Doli Saja Ke' out of choice. Presently, I am very busy with other commitments, so it was better to part ways. My production house Maverick is presenting the film Dulha Mil Gaya (starring Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen and Fardeen Khan), besides some other projects.'

The soap is somewhat inspired by Yash Chopra's ' Lamhe' revolving round the difficulties and problems between their relationship. Anuj was essaying the character of father whose wife dies during child birth. Now, he holds her daughter (played by Barkha Bisht) responsible for the death of his wife and becomes indifferent towards her. Jaya Mathur, Arzoo Govitrikar and Manoj Bidvai also feature in important roles

Prolonged wait for Aroona Irani's doli

Not being deterred with the debacle of Sony's 'Vaidehi', Aroona Irani was already ready to join the TRP race again with her new show 'Doli Saja Ke' for Sahara One. But there is some disappointment on that front too.

This family saga was initially scheduled to go on air on 15th January which shifted to 22nd and last heard it's being postponed to February…..phew! Fingers are being pointed at the production house which seems to be facing some teething issues.

This shillyshally is also testing the patience of Barkha Bisht (she plays the protagonist in Doli)…..who is heavily banking on this show as post Pyar Ke Do Naam…this is her only prime time daily (ya she does anchor Popkorn Newz on Zoom, but that's passable!).

We all know the 'V' element didn't work for Aroona Irani so will her old 'D' fixation (Desh Mein Nikla Hoga Chand) bring good news for this producer-cum-actor? But for our answers we'll first have to wait for the day when her new show finally takes off.

Barkha, Indraneil back on track

Barkha Bisht and Indraneil Sen Gupta's love story is going places. The two are madly in love, and Indraneil visits her often on the sets of Zoom's Popkorn Newz. They've now become an inseparable trio: Barkha, Indraneil and her pet dog Pepper.

A source close to Barkha tells us, "Indraneil is a regular visitor on the Popkorn sets when Barkha is anchoring. If and when she is busy, he passes his time playing with Pepper. Most of the time, they leave together after the shoot."

'He's hot!'

Barkha does not deny that Indraneil visits her on the sets but says that she is not in a relationship with him. "We are very close, but we are not dating. This relationship can get meaningful in future, and if it does, I will talk about it then."

Barkha says, "Indraneil is fun to be with. He is a very nice guy and looks very hot. He has one of the best bodies on television. I have seen him without a shirt when we were shooting for Pyaar Ke Do Naam. He works out every day. I wish I had time to work out like him," she says with a laugh.

Switching topics to discuss things on the work front, Barkha says that she shoots for fours hours everyday for the show. "The channel is in the process of finalising a new girl to be the second anchor right now. Shveta Salve was supposed to do it earlier, but I don't know what happened."

Cordial relations

Barkha is also doing Aroona Irani's new show Doli Saja Ke (Sahara One), which will go on air next month. She plays the lead opposite Amit Sareen. "I play a very simple girl who has had a very restrained childhood due to family problems. Anuj Saxena and Jaya Mathur play my parents," she says.

Previously, Barkha was in a relationship with actor Karan Singh for two years, whom she met on the sets of the MTV-Balaji show, Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi. Their split raised many eyebrows in the industry as the couple was on the verge of getting married.

Unwilling to spell out what went wrong between Karan and her, she says, "We had personal differences, so we went our separate ways. We are not in touch now. We are cordial to each other if we bump into each other, but that's about it."

Prior to his liaison with Barkha, Indraneil was dating Pratichee Mohapatra of VIVA Fame.

Aroona Irani's negative act

Queen bee of soaps, Ekta Kapoor loves to shock viewers with her unexpected twists and turns in her saas bahu soaps. The recent re-entry of Daksha Ben in Kyunki being a case in point. Sometime back, the generation leap in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, along with Parvati's new look and the entry of veteran actor Aroona Irani helped her boost her TRPS

For the uninitiated, Aroona Irani has been shown as a friend, philosopher and guide to Parvati. Now, the buzz goes, that the audience will receive a big shock when Aroona Irani would turn negative. This will also go to add on to Parvati's non-ending emotional battle, and her unending tears.

Irani's role was initially only for three months but going by the viewer feedback, looks like the track is being carried forward. Also, since her own show Doli Saja Ke for Sahara One has got delayed, now the producer can focus on Ekta's show for the moment. .

So, are we all ready for the shock when Aruna shows her true colours ?
