it was so hard to watch and listen to that, but you know its something that happens, and its not rare, many times you dont realise that a woman is being beaten by a man!
In real life, people hide it, women hide such incidents because they are afraid but by showing Urmi going thru the same and taking action it will give women and people in general the courage to take that next step to help women or at least just talk about it!

This show is just showing what we wont talk about, its wrong to show it, but it makes it so real, her screams gave me chills and the sounds of the whips made me jump literally! I think they are doing good by showing what is happening in society! Because the show is also going to show that if this happens, a woman should not stay quiet! IF We look at the reason behind showing this, then we wont be so upset!

Another channel had another show where the Hero - beat his wife, starved her, regularly burnt her feet and hands, tried to kill her parents and family, forced her to abort etc. - and finally tried to kill her.

I don't remember anyone going and cribbing how regressive that show was. All I used to see were posts lauding how good-looking the hero was. So what's the problem here.

Yes there was a scene of wife-beating - but instead of a prolonged six-month agony of improbable sequences and silly reasons as to why the heroine should not and would not stand for her rights, here you have quick retribution. Or is that the problem?

What is the objection?...not wanting to watch something like this does not make it go away... its still a reality...if a show is trying to raise a serious issue like domestic violence through a popular medium like daily dramas ...why are we objecting ..there is no shortage of the pyar ishq or mohabat and saas bahu sazish dramas so we don't need more of those ..we need to show and educate people that abuse of any kind will not be tolerated and victims should not put up with it under any circumstances..its upsetting to watching it happen in a drama but The amount of pain ,hurt and despair a person feels is unimaginable. .so please don't discorage something like this ..because it may be just a small drama but its a small stand non the less showing we will not put up with this sort of abuse..

I agree with you and I like the fact that here the wife took a quick action. But what I fail to accept is that in todays age the girl's father and her grandmother want her to forgive that beast because he is her husband! That is BS!! Now a days even a not so educated and not so well-off father doesn't tolerate when his daughter is tortured by her in-laws, then how come Urmi's father, who seems to be an educated man, is not even supporting her decision, let alone help her in some way. By showing this, the makers of the soap are giving out a wrong message to the people

The show is not promoting domestic abuse. It raises the topic and is showing how a woman in a patriarchal society stands against it and takes action. What is shown was horrible but the woman reported her husband and he is arrested - a step that many real life women would be afraid to take, but should!

This is all part of the message that the show is trying to give, where family members use emotional blackmail to try to get the victim to withdraw the case. (What will people say, he is your husband etc.) It is showing just as some think progressively there are those that still think and try to pass on regressive values to their children. It is showing that even parents don't all the time perpetuate what is right for their children and are too worried about societal norms and reputation, while their children are left to suffer amidst everything.

The show has glorified the domestic violence. They have dragged Urmi's sufferings since her wedding. It did not need to have her beaten black and blue for her to go to the cops. The first beating (slap) should have changed her. The family should have heard her screaming when she was being beaten. Urmi's family should have had more sense than asking her to take the complaint back even after seeing her condition. We all know that old fashioned families behave like Urmi's family. The show needed to educate these parents by showing Urmi's family are enraged and supporting her rather than Samrat. The current track shows the parents that its ok to give gyan to their daughter to forgive the evil husband for society's sake. The show also needs to show Shashi's husband stronger rather than occasional mousy asserts. He needs to show his wife that he means business. All in all its too little too late and even now they are trying to brainwash Urmi into forgiving Samrat
