What a regressive serial. What century are they living in? Urmi's family have zero self respect as most of them are dying to send her back and will succeed. I am surprised at Urmi's mom who should be a sherni and protect her daughter from her idiot husband (Urmi's dad) and crazy MIL (dadi), She does have Gaurav's and Bua's support so why is she not putting her foot down? What was the purpose of Urmi walking out of the Rat house if she was going to swallow her pride and go back because her idiot father is not a man enough to protect his daughter and simply because she is carrying Rat's baby

Well, sorry to say but ZEE has messed up again as usual. They start off with good new serials that mess up very very badly half way and then get axed. The worst thing is most of their serials are insults to a woman where the main female lead has to go through all the BS and suffer on the name of sanskaars and parampara. When are they going to learn to respect women?

Have patients dear.
They are highlighting all these issues which happens in real too. Believe sometimes once a girl goes to her sasuraal she becomes stranger to her maaike this is the mentality of many ppl this is why they are showing all this cos they wanna bring a change! Look at her dadi stupid old lady she is not even suporting Urmi. She forgets she was once a newly married woman too and i am sure her son urmis dad was somehow like Sam in the past. I feel this.

All your points are valid Suresh.

But trying to bring about change for women in India is like ...Banging ones head on a Brick Wall... all that happens is that the Brick wall stays firm but one comes away from it with a bloody head.

Hoping that there will be a forward thinking production house with enough guts to show, strong and capable women and show older generation that have more understanding for the coming generation.

Urmi's family especially her father and her Daadi are just like SamRAT and will see no reason but their own.

And I too am surprised at Urmi's mother's silence when she should be making sure that nobody bullies Urmi. She turned out be a great disappointment.

I hope the CV's do not pull this for too long, there is just so much patience one can muster for stupidity.

Thanks Dolly and IPerfection

I left India a long time ago to come to Canada and on one hand I keep hearing how India has succeeded in improving conditions for women and then I see all this crazyness in serials like this and it's not just one serial but majority of them show this kind of nonsense. I feel so bad for the actors who are subjected to this script (the way Urmi is shown to leave and fight back only to go back without any self respect). Also, they are brainwashing families and new brides to believe that the husband is the god and after marriage the daughters have no place in their parent's house. I cannot see how they intend to bring change if Urmi has to go back and accept the conditions she wanted to leave behind. Before the Rat reforms (I won't bet on it) he will continue his torture since he has the last laugh once Urmi returns

Ahh ! Glad you are a fellow Canadian. How is this long Winter getting to you?

Yes, the sad part is that India changes at a snails pace.. Let us hope slowly but surely people will see
that one cannot live and treat women with disdain and treat them as second class citizens.

I think they are trying to keep the show realistic so that women could relate their life stories with Urmi's. This show is a GREAT reality check for the teen girls who dream about how their to be husband would be and they stays in their dream land till the reality hits them hard. They gets married to someone like Samrat , to someone who's a little better then Samrat or to someone who's worse than Samrat!.
These all issues are what rises in the real life as well in such situations.
You'll see that in the end they will show that how a girl like Urmi doesn't have to compromise herself due all paramparas and can make a living for her own self. I think this is the main motive of this show!.

@Topic Maker - very good post! You took the words right out of my mouth!
I wasn't too thrilled with the show when it started - I couldn't figure out what they were trying to show: if it was a show about how a very sheltered girl with big bollywood type dreams and expectations of her husband and married life - gets married to a very practical, unromantic type of person - it would be a story of 2 totally different and incompatible people bound by matrimony and how they figure it out - either by growing into each other or growing apart - and going their separate ways - I've said this countless times before if that was the original intent of the story they didn't need to make Samrat into the disgusting character he is seen today.

Looks like somewhere down the line they decided to use this platform as a way to show domestic abuse victims (emotional, verbal and physical) and how they find their inner courage and break out of this role that society has pigeon holed them into - where they can take steps and decisions which challenge the norms of what is expected of them and do what is right for them. I really hope CVs do the story, the countless victims of such abuse and us viewers right and take this story forward - I really don't see the point in showing how Urmi stands up and then is forced to go back - that totally defeats the purpose.
I'm REALLY hoping Urmi is shown (with her brother, bua and Trisha's support) to not back down and stand firm in her decision of not going back and abortion if it comes to that (Again it should be her choice) this is the only way zee can justify such a blood boiling show.
I don't know about the rest of you but every time Samrat opens his mouth I swear my Blood Pressure goes up a few notches - the man (if he can even be called that) is just despicable - granted every now and then he mouths practical dialogues but for the most part he is down right disgusting and I can't begin to comprehend WHY he thinks everyone especially in Urmi's household should dance to his tunes - who is he to say who is or is not allowed to visit with/associate with Urmi's family?!
I have no expectations of Dadi ( I made a separate post about her) or Urmi's Dad - 2 extremely selfish individuals, they too are sorry excuses for humans and Urmi's mother was a HUGE disappointment - I was hoping she'd speak up more but in seeing the dynamics of their household, strata of society and the oppressive MIL - I can't say I'm surprised. Perhaps this is another indirect message by CVs that women often - wanting to do the right thing, wanting to stand up - lack the courage in doing so - they feel restricted/obligated to keep quiet or often times do so to avoid further conflict - kind of like picking your battles but never really picking any battles to fight...?
Only time will tell on how this plays out - I'm staying hopeful CVs will listen to their viewers and act responsibly in how they move this track forward.

I would only say to you that, please be patient. The cvs are showing awesome , exactly how it should be. And I liked today's episode, the director wanted to show, how a backword thinking family usually reacts at their daughter grief in our society. That's all about it.

They are going to show how Urmi stands strong on her decision and will not bare or mend to any ones pleas and show to the samrat family, what she is and what she can do, it's going to be her take on from now on. So far we have seen how much she waited for him to change or understand, but now that Urmi knows very well what type of person he is , she is going to take things seriously and stand for herself.

Thanks for all the responses. I doubt it if they are going to follow the right path as there are already articles out about how Urmi will return to her sasural after the pregnancy fiasco (another track that was way too conveniently added and was not needed). We all knew that pregnancy news would trigger the endless bhashans and lectures from the illogical elders in Urmi's family about how its even more important to go back to the Rat because of the new baby. What bugs me to no end is the Rat and his Ratni (mommy)'s reaction when Urmi returns home. Yes, they may show some humanity in caring for her physically (for their own reasons, khandaan ka waris ka sawaal hai) but mentally it will be like "ha ha, we told you that you will be back, aur kahan jayegi". And god forbid if the baby is a daughter, Rat will perform a tandav at her birth and if it's a boy, the baby will be enrolled in the Rat university right away to ensure he will become papa jaisa.

Hey Dolly, what city are you in? I am in Ottawa :) The winter is one of the longest one in years (never liked it)

It's a pity they never learn. You know, so often you hear about the silly objections (like a word in a song from aaja Nachley or the title of Ram Leela, which was forced to change to Goliyon ki Rasleela Ram Leela) and yet no objections of serials like these which consist of day to day abuse towards women
