@Topic Maker - very good post! You took the words right out of my mouth!
I wasn't too thrilled with the show when it started - I couldn't figure out what they were trying to show: if it was a show about how a very sheltered girl with big bollywood type dreams and expectations of her husband and married life - gets married to a very practical, unromantic type of person - it would be a story of 2 totally different and incompatible people bound by matrimony and how they figure it out - either by growing into each other or growing apart - and going their separate ways - I've said this countless times before if that was the original intent of the story they didn't need to make Samrat into the disgusting character he is seen today.
Looks like somewhere down the line they decided to use this platform as a way to show domestic abuse victims (emotional, verbal and physical) and how they find their inner courage and break out of this role that society has pigeon holed them into - where they can take steps and decisions which challenge the norms of what is expected of them and do what is right for them. I really hope CVs do the story, the countless victims of such abuse and us viewers right and take this story forward - I really don't see the point in showing how Urmi stands up and then is forced to go back - that totally defeats the purpose.
I'm REALLY hoping Urmi is shown (with her brother, bua and Trisha's support) to not back down and stand firm in her decision of not going back and abortion if it comes to that (Again it should be her choice) this is the only way zee can justify such a blood boiling show.
I don't know about the rest of you but every time Samrat opens his mouth I swear my Blood Pressure goes up a few notches - the man (if he can even be called that) is just despicable - granted every now and then he mouths practical dialogues but for the most part he is down right disgusting and I can't begin to comprehend WHY he thinks everyone especially in Urmi's household should dance to his tunes - who is he to say who is or is not allowed to visit with/associate with Urmi's family?!
I have no expectations of Dadi ( I made a separate post about her) or Urmi's Dad - 2 extremely selfish individuals, they too are sorry excuses for humans and Urmi's mother was a HUGE disappointment - I was hoping she'd speak up more but in seeing the dynamics of their household, strata of society and the oppressive MIL - I can't say I'm surprised. Perhaps this is another indirect message by CVs that women often - wanting to do the right thing, wanting to stand up - lack the courage in doing so - they feel restricted/obligated to keep quiet or often times do so to avoid further conflict - kind of like picking your battles but never really picking any battles to fight...?
Only time will tell on how this plays out - I'm staying hopeful CVs will listen to their viewers and act responsibly in how they move this track forward.
