Chapter 36B

The next morning came quickly. It passed by with preparations for the reception tonight. "Mom, aap ne kahin Raghu ko dekha?" I asked as I came down the stairs. "I think ki woh uppar terrace pe hain beta," she replied. "Ok, main abhi aati hoon," I said and headed back upstairs.

"Raghu, Raghu, kahan ho tum?" I asked walking on to the terrace. "Main yahan hoon," he said. I looked up and saw Raghu up on ladder. "Wahan kya kar rahe ho?" I asked. "Lights lagani hain," he said. "Koi aur bhi toh kar sakta hain," I replied. "Almost ho gaya, main abhi neeche aata hoon," he said. "Jaldi karo," I said.

He climbed down and said, "Lo ho gaya. Ab bol, kya hua?" "Tum ne baat ki?" I asked. "Kisse?" he asked. "Raghu, tum ne hi toh kaha tha ki tum police se baat karoge," I said.

"Arre haan, main bhool gaya," I said. I had completely forgotten about that because mom had asked me make sure all of the decorations were proper. "Raghu, tum kaise bhool sakte ho? Yeh koi aisi waisi baat nahi hain," she said. "I'm sorry Antara, main-" I get cut off before I can say anything else. "Raghu, you know this is important! You can't ignore this." She huffs and walks away.

"Yeh Miss. Kaul ko kya ho gaya?" I ask myself. I run behind her. "Arre Miss. Kaul, sorry bola na maine. Main abhi jaa ke aata hoon," I say. "Promise?" "Promise." "Toh jao." I smile and walk away to go to the police station.

"Ladkiyon, jao jaa kar Payal ko tayaar karo aur khud bhi tayaar ho jao," Rukhsana aunty said as she walked into my room. "Ji Aunty," I said and got up to grab my dress and the three of us went off to Payal's room. We helped Payal get ready and then got ready ourselves.

I didn't get to see Raghu until just before the reception started. I was about to go downstairs when I felt someone grab my wrist and pulled me into a hall. It was Raghu. "Kya kar rahe ho Raghu, koi aa jayega," I say. He holds my wrist against the wall and smiles. "Toh aa jaane de, mujhe koi farak nahi parta," he replies. "Raghu, chodo," I say and struggle to get my wrist out of his grip. "Yeh haath maine chodne ke liye nahi pakda hain," he says. "Raghu... tum bhi na, bahut filmy ho," I say. "Chal theek hain. Yeh dekh main tere liye kya laya hoon."

He takes out a box that he had been holding behind his back and hands it to me. I took the box and opened it and found a pair of purple diamond earrings, matching my saree. "Raghu, what's this?" I ask. "Tere liye gift hain," he replies. "Par iss ki kya zaroorat thi?" I ask. "Mann kiya toh le liya. Ab jaldi se yeh pehen le, hume neeche bhi jaana hain." I took the earrings out of the box and replaced my silver ones with the purple ones. "How do they look?" "Perfect." He leans in and places a kiss on my forehead.

I take her hand in mine and lead her to the stairs. We walk down together and wait for the party to begin.
