It was two in the morning by the time Antara reached home, Raghu had insisted on picking her up and dropping her home. The rest of the evening turned out to be more productive than Antara had imagined, she not only had a deep heart felt conversation with Raghu about their relationship but they also took the opportunity to get to know a little bit more about one another. Raghu was nothing like she had ever imagined him to be, he was so misunderstood on so many levels this tough no nonsense exterior had a man who was full of emotion and warmth within. Even though Raghu insisted that they went public with their relationship Antara convinced him to hold back at least until the wedding and Exhibition was over and done with.
Antara lay in bed trying to get enough sleep before the big day; it had finally arrived the day her sister, her best friend was getting married.
As soon as dawn broke RM and the rukku's apartment was taken over by a frenzy. The last thing ashok, geeta and Antara wanted was for rukku to turn into some bridezilla so they put themselves at her disposal, making sure she had everything she wanted when she wanted.
The scene at RM was pretty much the same daya mai was all emotional kissing and hugging machmach every chance she got. As Shruti got ready she came downstairs only to let out a scream finally her beloved husband had made it on time. She ran up to her arnav and hugged him like never before I cant believe it you made...oh thank you...thank you do you know I thought you were not going to make it' she said filling up with tears. Shruti, I was always going to make it, how could I miss this?' arnav kissed his wife and hugged her once again. By this time the rest of the household had gathered to greet arnav who had been away on business for the last few months.
Perfect...now that everyone is here and almost ready we need to get going' Shruti said enthusiastically. Raghu can you please call Uncle ashok and tell them we will be leaving in the next half hour' Raghu called ashok and informed them of their departure time and also told them that a limo will be waiting for them to bring them to the wedding hall.
Antara couldn't keep still she was a bundle of nerves her senses were being bombarded with a million emotions all at once. Antara...please stop fidgeting, I am the one getting married and you are the one all ready to drop' Antara looked at rukku in total awe of her radiating beauty. She looked like a million dollars, her deep maroon outfit with delicate gold embroidery, her jewelry her make up her everything screamed elegance, she was going to knock machmach senseless. Rukku...you look amazing, I can't even begin to tell you how beautiful you look' Antara held back the tears of joy that were about to spill over, she quickly rounded up her parents, rukku's friends and Sara who had come to join in the celebration, they were finally ready to go.
The Naik's had hired out a grand hall in one of the finest hotels in Delhi. The hall was adorned in beautiful lights and decorations, fresh flowers fragranced the hall and a red carpet scattered with petals was laid as an aisle that went up to where the religious ceremony was to take place. Majority of the guests had arrived and were indulging in the lavish layout of endless food and drink. Machmach and his family waited by with the priest going over final details when all of a sudden the drummers started playing indicating that the bride's family had arrived. Everyone held onto their breaths with their eyes fixated on the entrance.
It wasn't long before rukku made her entrance with her parents on other side of her and Antara and her friends following behind. The hall that had become silent on hearing the drums beat all broke out admiring the beautiful bride. Machmach could not take his eyes off of her, she looked like a goddess as rukku came closer Shruti and daya mai rushed of the stage to greet her My beautiful daughter in law' daya mai hugged rukku trying not to smudge her mascara. Daya mai and Shruti took rukku up to the stage and sat her beside machmach his eyes said everything his lips couldn't. As everyone started fussing on the stage making sure rukku and machmach were seated properly and the Priest ready to start the ceremony. Antara was lost in searching the hall with her eyes, no prizes for guessing who she was looking for. Where are you?' she kept saying to herself. As she scanned the hall for the umpteenth time she quickly shot a look back Raghu was standing leaning against a pillar in the far corner with his arms crossed over his chest and his eyes fixated on her. As their eyes locked Raghu started to walk towards Antara, Antara could feel her heart pick up an extra beat, his eyes emitted a passion a desire that she had never seen before, Antara could feel butterflies in her stomach she could feel her cheeks turn crimson she tried so hard to look away but Raghu's eyes had held hers with such yearning she found it impossible. Before she knew it Raghu was standing in front of her just inches away you look absolutely stunning' his voice was a low whisper but it was enough to get her senses to lose control. I had been waiting for you, and I can tell you Miss Antara Kaul every second was worth it' Antara loved the way he pronounced her full name in his husky voice, Antara blushed even more she looked down to avert his fiery gaze, as Raghu was about to take her hand they were interrupted by Sara and Sahil. Antara quickly greeted Sahil who had just come and then made her way to rukku and her parents leaving Sara and Sahil with Raghu to talk about the Exhibition and Fashion show.
The religious ceremony came to an end rukku and machmach made promises to love, care, and protect each other they were asked if they accepted the marriage after which they were pronounced husband and wife, the whole affair was very emotional but a joyous occasion for both families. Once the newlywed couple went round the hall meeting and greeting their guests the DJ announced the dance floor open requesting rukku & machmach to perform the opening number. Everyone was cheering and clapping as rukku and machmach lost themselves in each other. Once their song had finished the DJ played an upbeat Bhangra track inviting family and friends to join in. Antara sat with her parents admiring her sister and cheering on her friends who were jumping to the beat. Geeta held Antara's hand and then kissed her she had not missed the droplets of tears that were swimming in her eyes. Geeta had not given birth to Antara but from the moment this little flower had entered her house she was her daughter, she made sure that she was loved and cared for in every possible way. Geeta knew that Antara would feel lonely once they returned to Lucknow and with rukku being married. Antara...I think it's time you thought about finding someone and settling down' Antara looked at her mum and hugged her letting the tears escape. 'mum I will be ok, I have my studies and you are not far from me and rukku, well let's just say she will be seeing a lot more of me than she intends to' Antara laughed wiping her tears away.
Ashok stood up and extended his hand out come on...how about a father and daughter special' Antara took his hand and moved onto the dance floor. As the songs played on Antara, someone who can't dance danced like she never danced before she moved from her father to join in with Sara and Sahil and then rukku and machmach. Raghu stood on the side admiring this beautiful girl, his girl, she wore the most elegant lilac skirt with a blouse that hugged her perfect waist, her hair was set in lose curls that's swayed and bounced as she did to the music. As the music changed to soft romantic number Antara started to walk off seeing everyone coupling up. As she drew back her footsteps off the dance floor she felt his hands brush against her mid-drift and hold onto her waist. Antara recognized those soft hands anywhere she smiled and leant into his hold. Raghu moved his face closer to her "can I have the pleasure of this dance' he whispered into her air instantly setting off fireworks she turned her body to half face him, she slowly took his hand the pleasure is all mine' and led him to the middle of the crowd.
As Raghu and Antara swayed to the music lost in each other Naani and Shruti stood back not quite believing what they were witnessing Naani am I dreaming are you...' yes Shruti I am seeing but not believing, Raghu is dancing...he never dances' I know' both Shruti and Naani looked at Raghu in amazement, they were happy to see Raghu in this new avatar. Unlike Naani Shruti saw that much more, the way that Antara and Raghu were dancing, the way they were looking at each other, she was sure that there was something going on. She smiled to herself full of glee, if what she thought was right then today she is most definitely the happiest woman alive.
Antara we are starting rehearsals for the fashion show Sara and Sahil will be there why don't you come and join in, if anything at least I can see you' Raghu stroked Antara's cheek as he pulled her closer, Antara was becoming aware that they were not alone and that their bodies were a little too close for comfort the last thing she wanted was for her parents to see her like this. She sighed in relief as the music came to a stop and everyone started clapping. Antara by now had distanced herself from Raghu, as she started to walk she gestured Raghu to follow. They both sat down and carried on looking around watching everyone enjoying themselves. Well...what do you say?' Of course I will, although it might not be every day, once I have finished my work I will be free to come and spend as much time as you want with you' she replied sincerely Raghu could only but smile at her.
It was finally time for rukku to leave to go and start her new life as Ruksana Naik . The farewell was as emotional as it could be ashok, geeta and Antara hugged rukku with endless streams of tears. Naani and daya mai came up to geeta to assure her that her daughter would be happy and be looked after as their own daughter. Raghu looked at Antara wanting to go and hold her and wipe away the tears that were staining her angelic face, he walked around her and gently touched her hand as she looked up to him he winked at her making her gasp and laugh at the same time Raghu smiled and before he left he whispered mission accomplished' she realized that he wanted her to stop crying and so he made her laugh.
Antara stood with her parents and friends as the limo drove off into the distance with their beautiful daughter and sister. Antara stood in between her parents and put her arms around them looks like it's just you and me now'.
It was - but not for long.
