Part VI AAJI'S ADVICE TO RAGHU!

It was nearly nine in the evening when Aaji climbed the stairs of the terrace. As she landed on the top of the stairs she saw her Chintu sitting on the cot staring pensively at Antara's balcony. Aaji shook her head. Bilkul Devdas lagta hai mera Chintu! Bas haath mein ek bottle ki garaj hai! Phir mera Chintu bolega ki Kaun Kambakht Peeta Hai Bardaasht Karne Ke Liye! She imagined Raghu wearing a Kurta Dhoti in Bengali style and roaming the streets drunkenly with bottle in his hand. She shook her head and came out of thoughts. Achcha hai ki mere Chintu ke paas uski Aaji hai! Warna yeh toh bana Devdas aur udhar Antara banegi Paro aur kisi aur se uski shaadi bhi hojaayegi! Par Raghu! Main Antara ko tujhse alag nahi hone degi! Aur uske liye mujhe teri galat faimi bhi door karni padegi. Woh galat faimi jo Antara ki yedigiri aur tere chhupke sun ne ke wajah se hui hai!

Aaji marched towards Raghu and sat beside him. She placed her hand on Raghu's head and Raghu turned towards her. She smiled at him tenderly and Raghu hugged her tightly. "Chintu??", Aaji exclaimed as she sensed his sadness. She did not know Raghu was so badly affected by what he heard earlier. His reaction alarmed her. He pulled away and looked outside. Aaji smiled, "Ae Chintu! Kya hua re? Apni Aaji ko nai bataayega?" Raghu looked at her and then lied on the cot placing his head on Aaji's lap facing Antara's balcony. Aaji lovingly combed his hair with her fingers. "Bolna re, baal! Mereko nahi bataayega toh kise bataayega re?" "Aaji!", Raghu whispered and Aaji strained her ears ready to hear Raghu and give him solution without letting out that she knew everything. "Main kya bolun kuch samajh nahi aa raha!", Raghu whispered and Aaji frowned, "Toh samajhne ki kya jaroorat hai. Jo samajhna hai woh main samjhungi. Tu bas dil mein jo bhi hai woh mere ko bata de!" "Mereko pyaar hogaya Aaji!", Raghu said and Aaji grinned. Thank you Bappa thank you! Aapne meri sun li! She replied, "Yeh toh khushi ki baat haina, Chintu?", her tone was of confusion. "Par woh aur kisise pyaar karti hai! Aur woh ladka bhi usse pyaar karta hai!", Raghu whispered. Aaji acted as if she was upset, "Toh theek hai! Tu use bhool ja! Tujhe aur koi ladki mil jaayegi!" Raghu shook his head and spoke in anguish filled voice, "Aisa nahi ho sakta Aaji! Itni aasaani se main use bhula nahi sakta!" "Agar bhula nahi sakta toh theek hai! Tu uska dil jeetne ki koshish kar! Uske dil se us doosre ladke ko nikaal phek!", Aaji offered him advice. Raghu shook his head again, "Jisse woh pyaar karti hai woh mera dost hai!" Aaji rolled her eyes. Yeh Chintu ko samjhaana pahaad chadne ke baraabar hai! "Achcha! Aur yeh dono hai kaun?" Chintu got up from her lap and looked at her. "Woh ladki Antara hai aur woh ladka Machmach!" Aaji acted as if she was shocked and then frowned. "Par tereko kyun lagta hai ki Antara Machmach se pyaar karti hai? Aur Machmach bhi Antara se pyaar karta hai?" Raghu got up and walked forward. "Kyunki Machmach ne hi bataaya mereko! Ab tu hi bata ki main kaise Machmach ka dil todun? Woh toh mera dost haina Aaji!" Aaji slapped her forehead. Gayi bhains paani mein! Mera plan toh mera hi nuksaan kar raha hai! Yeh toh wahi hua! Khudke hi paaon pe khuraadi maarna! Arre Deva! Atta mi kaay karoon? She scratched her head. Suddenly, she piped up, "Aur tereko kaise maaloom ki Antara Machmach se pyaar karti hai?" Raghu looked at her sheepishly, "Woh dupeher ko tu aur Miss Call baat kar rahi thi woh maine sun li!" "Chintu?", Aaji spoke in a warning tone. Raghu shrugged, "Haan! Haan! Aaji! Mereko pata hai ki doosre ka baat chupke chupke sunne ka nai! Par ab tere saamne Antara ne apne pyaar ka izhaar kiya na! Ab tu bol main kya karoon?" Aaji shook her head, "Tu yeda hai re! Aadhi adhuri baat sunkar kuch bhi soch leta hai!" Raghu frowned, "Matlab?" Aaji rolled her eyes, "Tu ne kuch aur suna aur baat kuch aur thi! Tu ne jo suna woh galat tha! Antara Machmach se pyaar nahi karti!" Raghu frowned again, "Par maine jo suna?" Aaji made up a lie on the spot. "Bhool ja joh suna woh! Woh Antara apne college ke ek play ke dialogues bata rahi thi!" Raghu brightened up, "Sacchi?" Then he looked away sadly, "Par usne Machmach ka naam liya!" Aaji rolled her eyes, "Arre Yede! Usne baahar Machmach ko dekha aur usko dekhke chillaayi! Aur kuch nahi! Ab meri baat dhyaan se sun! Abhi tu ek hi kaam kar! Antara ko jaakar apni dil ki baat bol!" "Par Aaji?", Raghu looked at her worriedly. Aaji shook her head, "Tereko meri kasam hai! Tu Antara se apni dil ki baat karega! Chaahe kuch bhi hojaaye!" Raghu looked at her suspiciously, "Aaji! Tereko kya kuch maaloom hai jo mereko nai maaloom?" Aaji glared at him, "Dil ki baat bolega ya main jaake bolun?" Raghu shook his head frantically, "Nahi Aaji! Main bol daalega par..." Aaji cut him off with, "Par kya?" "Machmach ka dil tootega...", Raghu mumbled hesitantly and Aaji burst out with, "Arre! Machmach cha dil gela khadyaat!" Raghu looked at her in shock and Aaji calmed herself down. "Mera matlab hai ki usko har doosre din ek ladki pasand aati hain! Woh bahut jald Antara ko bhool jaayega!" Raghu frowned unsure of what Aaji was saying. Aaji got up, grabbed his shoulders and whirled him around to face her. "Tereko maine kasam di na? Toh kya tu meri kasam todega?" Raghu shook his head and took a deep breath, "Theek hai Aaji! Kal main Antara ko apni dil ki baat bolega!" Aaji looked at him with confusion, "Kal kyun? Aaj kyun nahi?" Raghu rolled his eyes, "Raat hogaya hai, Aaji! Ab kya use neend se uthaake I Love You bolun? Uski Maami daategi woh alag, aur uska Maama peetega woh alag. Aur use neend se uthaane ke liye Antara ghussa hogi woh alag. Nai Aaji! Main Antara ke ghusse ka risk nahi lega! Kal ko hi baat karega!" Raghu stalked away while Aaji sadly looked at his retreating back. Matlab mereko ek aur din rukna padega? She shook her head and walked away.
