I think the reason for this show ending

From everything that we have been reading about the leads I think the main reason this show ended is because the leads were not getting along. Hence the reason that they both died and there is going to be a season 2 without them but other cast is remaining. Otherwise they could have ended happily if there was going to no continuation without the leads. That's just my opinion.
