Good post Neel.
Sandhya has been strong individually before and after the marriage but the writers have portrayed her as dependent on Ankur or Suraj or Zakir's for motivation or taking decisions.
Though it is a debatable topic, it is the writers way of story telling keeping in mind the concept of the show Diya and Baati and it is the USP of the show too.
Recently read an article about how Pakistani shows portray strong women characters in their shows as opposed to Indian shows. What is particularly noteworthy is that in these Pakistani soaps, the women end up coming across as much more independent and strong-willed than their Indian counterparts, despite the significantly more conservative societies in which they live. Our telly heroines, like Sandhya of Diya Aur Baati Hum, usually needs a man: Diya needs Sooraj to stand up for her and her dreams. In contrast, Kasaf in Zindagi Gulzar Hai, fights her battles herself.
