Oh, DMG! What am I supposed to say?
I remember the first episode of DMG. I hadn't really been interested in the show (yeah, I know I'm weird. But, in my defense I was never ever interested in any TV show until DMG came along.) So, I hadn't seen the original airing like the rest of the world. Instead, I'd seen it the next day, completely due to boredom. I'd just gotten home from tuition and was flipping channels to pass time while I had snacks when I saw the legendary basket ball scene between AR. So, I decided to watch. And am I thankful that I did. Since that day, I became completely and utterly obsessed with the show, watching each and every episode and making my sister watch them too.
If I had somehow managed to miss the original air, I would watch it during any of 10000 repeat telecasts (I know I'm exaggerating but when DMG had first started it felt as if Star One didn't have any other show except that and repeats used to happen like every 2 hours!)
When my parents weren't around, I'd watch all the telecasts that I could catch. I'd run home from school and class cz they used to air at 1&6, both times for school or class to get over.
So, I never hung back to talk to my friends, just ran home to catch the telecast! <3
And, then, wonder of wonders, I discovered that they had scenes/episodes on YouTube! There was no going back after that. I used to YouTube DMG videos all the time! Funny scenes, romantic scenes or VMs! So much so that I can tell you which scene number corresponded to what.
For example,
KaSh Scene 18 was the one where Armaan climbs the pipe to Riddhima's room for the first time after they confess.
KaSu scene 70 was the bomb scene, where Armaan handcuffed himself to Riddhima so he wouldn't have to leave her.
KaJen scene 30 was one of the most romantic scenes of all time. The one in which Armaan takes Riddhima home to show her his room full of her pictures!
Yes, I did that. Get over it.
Talking about the show, obviously Armaan completely stole it. It was his show from the first scene till the last one. No Armaan meant no DMG. And, I don't think anyone could have portrayed the character better than KSG! He was, is and will always be Armaan.
As far as Riddhima is concerned, I did like Shilpa. She was nice. And KaSh had decent chemistry. But, I absolutely hated the way she cried. And in the Shilpa days, sadly, Riddhima had a lot of crying scenes.
So, I was kind of relieved for a new Riddhima. Oh, how wrong I was! In my honest opinion, Sukriti was my least favourite. However, I liked her cz she had the best scenes with Armaan.
It was during her time as Riddhima that ARs relationship actually bloomed and blossomed. It was amazing to watch.
And then, then came Jenny. There was no going back post that. All I could think was I wish she had been Riddhima from the beginning. KaJen were magic personified. They were the life of the show.
I loved them. So, so, so much. I loved the show so much and I never thought that it could get better, but then Jenny came into the picture and I realized just how wrong I'd been.
I can never praise them enough. The phenomenal job that they have done as AR is truly commendable! So, thank you CineVista's, for bringing Jenny on board.
Coming out of the AR lala land and talking about the rest of the cast, they were just as amazing.
Atul, that boy! I love him! All his singing, his melodrama. I loved that he was always there to help Armaan, playing the Love Guru, for all the problems Armaan's friend' had. And, of course, his never ending pursuit of Anjali. I am astounded by the fact he never gave up on Anjali even after her constant rebukes. She was so rude and arrogant with him at times, but he still never gave up. That is something that is seriously, totally, completely amazing and praise - worthy.
Talking about Rahul, I like many others, didn't like him in the beginning for the sole reason that he was trying to use Riddhima against Armaan. But, as his relationship with Armaan grew, so did my love for him. As the show progressed, he became Armaan's best confidante and helped him in a lot of scuffles. The progression of his relationship with Muskaan is also great. I especially love the part where he goes to Kasauli to bring Armaan back (post the AR break up) because he knew that Muskaan was hurt by his sudden disappearance. He loved her so much that he was ready to give up on her so that she could be happy. That truly made him a hero in my eyes.
And the amazing bonding among the 3 boys and Dr. Shubhankar (ISHQ HAYYE!) is something that I absolutely adore! The way they always had each other's backs, how they teased each other and were ready to do anything to help each other. They are the poster boys for a perfect friendship. That's how an ideal friendship should be. And that's how I want my friendships to be.
The girls, were just as amazing.
I mean, who can forget Muskaan's iconic laugh and Anjy's attitude?
Muskaan was the epitome of what I wanted to be. Fun, crazy, out going and full of life. That's how I hope to be one day. To love fearlessly without worrying about heartbreak and not fearing heartbreak and stopping myself from falling in love. To have the strength to fight for it. She's absolutely amazing. Truly a Punjab ki Sikhni and I admire her!
Anjali on the other hand, was someone who was ambitious, goal oriented and professional. I want to be like her when it comes to work. Focused and ready to give it my all. The only misgivings I had about her was that she never took Atul seriously when she should have. You don't guys who love you so wholly and completely these days.
Dr. Keerti, I think is commemorate of an elder sister for the entire gang. Stern when required, understanding the other times. Always up to help and offering what advice she had to offer, molding them into better human beings.
And, the Gupta family! They were one of the most amazing families ever. I loved the whole Kuch Kuch Hota Hai inspired part where Nani and Anjali worked together to bring Dr. Shashank and Sister Padma together. Obviously, Dr. Shashank's love for Riddhima and the amazing rapport that Armaan shared with Nani and Padma Aunty needs a mention!
And, the new additions, Nikki and Dr. Modi. They brought a sense of dj vu with all their fighting and bickering when our old couples were settling in their relationships. Nikki was the best friend Armaan could have ever had! I loved the bonding between Riddhima and Nikki as well! They were all so cute!
I won't divulge in too many details regarding season 2 because we all know what happened and no one is interested in bringing back all those bad memories. However, YuNa was cute as Hell!
Also, we got KaKa! So, that's a plus.
And, of course KaJeRan really proved their metals as actors in that season. All the intensity, the angst and the pain that they felt could easily be projected on screen and they did an amazing job! So, thank you!
Coming to the soundtrack, DMG has the best soundtrack a daily soap could have had. From the title track to Asmani Rang, Ishq Leta Hai and of course, the KaJen song (my personal favourite) and the background music.
My favourite background score is the one which plays when Armaan is upto no good with the heartbeat reprise from Ishq Leta Hai that plays in the background of AR's romantic scenes ranking as a close second.
All in all, DMG is one of the best shows to have graced Indian Television and I am forever grateful for everyone associated with it right from KSG & JJ to the production, BTS team including spot dadas and make up men!
Thank you, for giving us this amazing, amazing show.
Us, DMGians shall forever be in your debt for playing life changing roles in all our lives.
THANK YOU!
WE LOVE YOU, DMG!
